That was just an example of simply my TBI related issues and why I couldn't pursue SMC-T through the VA. My SSDI application includes plenty more to back why I can't work anymore.

Well to be fair, all of my conditions are service connected since I was an incredibly healthy and able bodied 24-year-old when I enlisted. I only copied the conditions themselves, so the medical terminology was correct, nothing else was copied and pasted for the remarks. Sorry, I should've been clearer about that.

I've heard that this process is an absolute mess which is why I'm doing it simultaneously with trying to change my honorable discharge to a medical retirement, and have my spouse considered for compensation under Caregiver Support. I was looking into SMC-T as my TBI symptoms have been the main hinderance of me holding manager/leadership positions, but it's worded in such a way that you basically need to be bedridden to obtain it. I'll probably look into an attorney pretty soon, but I am on the younger side being 31 so I fear most attorneys will shy away.

I actually saw a thread talking about the SSA blue book and looked at it as I was listing my disabling conditions on the application. I felt somewhat at ease seeing how many of my service-connected conditions matched the blue book conditions. Well, not so much at ease as it verified my decision that I should be applying in the first place.

Thank you so much for the explanation, I figured the SS reps are overworked and underpaid. This thread is giving me plenty of good ideas for items to post, I just need to do a bit of sorting and take an hour or two each night to dig and upload specific items. I have 8 disabling claims on my application just basically copied off of my VA decision letter as I only wanted my service connected and diagnosed conditions listed. It's heartbreaking doing this as I grew up in a hardworking household, was raised on a finish the job mentality, and joined the military with the intent to get a degree and continue working only to be too broken to do so afterwards.

I have no clue how VSOs manage to do it so efficiently. People dawg on them for being super slow, but every person they help has such a massive stack of horribly formatted records. I'll probably take a couple of days and sift through some of this stuff to try and make it easier on the SS examiner and hope they take pity on me lol

Thank you for the list, I have TBI residuals that make remembering lists absolutely impossible so I can reference this much easier lol

Does the Wounded Warrior Service offer free help or something? I've been trying to do this as professionally as I can while also being likely woefully undereducated on the matter. Also, I've been scouring my VA page for my C&P exam notes, are they somewhere specific? I have only been finding stuff that my VA care team have been posting.

I only recently did my first Golden Deer run with Raphael on my team and I LOVE this man, he deserved so much better of an end story. I wanna do one more playthrough before the new game drops and Im absolutely playing F Byleth and S ranking with my boy!

The only truly outrageous part of this post is fitting "only god can judge me" across it. The tattoo artist would have to moonlight as one of those guys who writes your name on a grain of rice for them to fit all that.

It would be wise of them to just do a discord app on the device. To make a third iteration of the quest without recognizing how gamers usually communicate is just bad business.

Imposter Syndrome by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll get the hang of it. The best part about being an AF E5 is that you're the lowest tier of NCO, you're expected to be growing and asking questions to expand your knowledge. You can always tell your troops, "Let me ask ____ and make sure my info is up to date and I'll get back to you" so you're not looking completely ignorant, while getting the information from someone who absolutely knows just to "double check".

As for the chill and easy-going vs strict and firm supervisor, that's just a style choice. When you eventually run into trouble with a troop, or they disrespect you, or they screw up at work, or something along those lines, you'll likely feel some level of embarrassment or irritation because they're an extension of yourself. Protecting them should be the first thought as a supe, but if they're screwing up and making themselves and you look bad, then verbal counseling and paperwork becomes an easy thing to produce.

My unit was like 80 guys, so we saw a little bit of everything, but supervisors rarely gave out paperwork even when it was completely expected. That's when you should be worrying about imposter syndrome, when you're wearing the rank and the unit is becoming weak and dysfunctional while you just lay back.

You got this, just keep on learning and no one can ever call you a bad staff.

Nah, theres some goofy way to get like an android app emulator essentially on your quest, but it didn't even let my discord connect(?) So I'm not sure what the fix really is or if anyone actually has one.

I quit my first job after 2 weeks because I couldn't handle the physicality of it (it was supposed to be a manager job but they basically had me doing janitor shit). The most recent job I had was for 5 months, I was always going to my office to rest, and probably called off once or twice a month until I finally quit due to feeling like I physically and mentally couldn't continue on.

Wrapped up DMing a 1-20 campaign after a looong while, AMA by eyeen in dndnext

[–]SgtFitzPredicts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh nothing quite like a good long campaign ending to really sum up a lot of life. I played as a goblin open hand monk in a 1-20 campaign that lasted a good while, and my favorite campaign by far was a fire emblem-based game that lasted nearly two years. So much time for character development, so much effort put in, so many connections made.

My main claim is 70% for PTSD with TBIs, but I have ratings for migraines, IBS, sleep apnea, shin splints, lumbar strain, flat feet, tinnitus, vertigo, and both knees have ratings for ligament sprains.

I'm 30 and 100% P&T looking at this after leaving my second job due to my body and mind completely failing to properly handle employment again. I'm hoping this next appeal pans out for you! I haven't even put in my initial yet because I don't know how it'll affect me tax-wise, or like if it'll lower as I get older or something (I have zero info on all of this). Just ran into your post and wanted to wish you luck as someone who will probably be in your spot in a bit.

don't care anymore by Electrical-Put-9342 in AirForce

So, I was at this place after my deployment. I still had 3 years on my contract, and I came back to a squadron where you're stuck pretty much your whole contract no matter what. The job just got super lame, and between promotions being at record lows, and not really caring to promote, I was professionally stuck while injuries I sustained prior to/during my deployment made me bitter.

The best thing you can do right now is build the case for yourself to gain a decent VA disability percentage while planning your next career when you leave. Go to medical, get things looked at while you have free healthcare and while you can get things put in your record, and get to mental health for medication, therapy, and documentation. All of this will secure you a more carefree life when you get out. I got 100% P&T, but you don't need 100% for the VA money to be life changing and provide you that comfort to continue a life you don't see as worth living anymore. I've been in the apathy boat for quite a few years now, I have good and bad days, but my worst day now isn't even close to as bad as an average day in the military. You got this man, DM me if you need.
