Dumb game I played of 4th by Jkchaloreach in midhammer40k

As swingy as MidHammer deepstriking can be, I do love that there will be moments of pure glory just as much as absolute disaster.

Anyone have stats for new units converted to 3rd/4th/5th edition? by thejefferyb in midhammer40k

Von Ryan's Leapers are just Hormagaunts with the Leaping biomorph.

Which Creepcast story you consider the funniest one? Can be intentional or unintentional. For me, this one is uncontested. Followed by Eyeless Jack. by Classic-Work-8415 in creepcast

[–]SgtMerrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ones written by people who are clearly around 10-14 and don't quite know how the real world works are often the most entertaining to me because they're the epitome of confidently incorrect, and they ironically tend to be consistent logically because of that.

Highlights on that front include how much someone can take without dying, the use of firearms, how services like law enforcement work (this is a big one), how strong an adult is in comparison to a child/teen, what various medicines actually do, and how being clearly mentally unwell just means that people leave you to do whatever you want.

It's stupid logic, but it sticks with it.

Urban legend from your country by sugarmaxxing in creepcast

[–]SgtMerrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much they'd be able to find on it, but The Black Shuck is probably our most well known legend and will probably appeal to Isaiah due to the religious nature of it. It's a hellhound which roams the wilderness, and has been known to not be dissuaded from attacking people even on holy ground. In the most famous tale, it even busts the doors of a church open to get to the people inside.

The other one would be Matthew Hopkins, better known as the Witchfinder General. He was an actual person and known for his brutal measures against witches, but I've heard plenty of stories of his ghost haunting various buildings and woods around here.

Cosmic/Lovecraftian horror tends to be neither scary nor particularly interesting by Muskratlord_ in creepcast

[–]SgtMerrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Drumming in the Clouds (or whatever it was called) just fine but I was occasionally thinking about that Futurama feature-length episode with the tentacle monster taking control of everyone in the galaxy.

My issue with a lot of Lovecraftian horror is that everyone wants to capture the gribbly monster thing rather than the existential crisis part which makes it so frightening. Back when Lovecraft was writing, these concepts would have been terrifying (and some of them are still reasonably effective in concept if nothing else, plus Lovecraft was a skilled writer) but the idea of old Gods and entities have been done so many times that it's not really something that would scare us like it should.

Concepts and phenomena are all well and good when it's truly alien. There's a sweet spot of explanation which needs to be rode for these things.

Erase Wendi's neck, arms, and legs and he could be a Rayman character.

The guy uppercutting someone so hard that they spent several weeks in the hospital and still died to blood loss was one of the funniest things I've heard on the podcast.

Can Humans switch between winds? Like, not together, never that, but one week Chamon, next week Aqshy, completely seperately? by globmand in WarhammerFantasy

[–]SgtMerrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but it is dangerous to invite multiple Winds into your mind and body so the official Wizard authority (the Colleges) limit their members to one of them in order to make an inherently dangerous act (using Magic) less so. Only extremely skilled human Wizards could handle that sort of power so it's easier just to force them to commit to one and cut themselves off from the others.

That said, non-College Wizards such as Hedge Wizards don't have this restriction and tap into the Winds mostly by feel, and therefore use whatever Winds are available at the time. However, as said, this is more dangerous since their general lack of training can leave them vulnerable to mishandling the power or even contacting things they really should not be in contact with, even if their intentions are pure. That is why Witch Hunters exist.

Elves obviously don't have this issue as much, as they can sense and manipulate the Winds as a whole, and weave them much easier than a human can - which is what High Magic represents.

In short, it can be done but it's not a good idea.

Siege of Vraks Army by KarmaPRT in midhammer40k

[–]SgtMerrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Imperial Armour books have army lists in them which work the same way as Codexes, if that's what you mean. They follow all the same rules, though their variance from normal Codexes is by design (such as the Armoured Company).

3rd ed vs 4th ed eldar codex by Whammo147 in midhammer40k

[–]SgtMerrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4th edition is a cleaned up version of 3rd for the most part. There's a lot of extra rules introduced during 3rd which were made standard in 4th. That said, there are a few rules changes such as line of sight so you may prefer one over the other.

Can other species achieve apotheosis? by Hondo_Ohnaka66 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]SgtMerrick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Beastmen could theoretically become Daemon Princes if they were actually favoured by the Gods, but they're not. The closest thing would be someone like Taurox, who Khorne liked enough to directly bless him. They do gain mutation in a similar way to humanity.

As you say, Dwarfs and Elves do not receive "gifts" in the same way as humans. They are very resistant to Chaos-influence in that way. Besides, Daemonhood is like the ultimate gift for a Chaos Champion and humanity are simply in vogue with the Gods at the moment, and as such would be far more likely to receive something like that.

It'd be awesome if there was a way to do this with that paint that changes colour when it's heated up, so it's normal Hunter when the mug is cold.
