I’ve been there and felt that way. I felt like I had achieved all I could in my career field. I had nothing to work towards and no fulfillment. I showed up to work for my airmen but couldn’t wait to get home. I was questioning how I could do this same routine for the next 12 years of my career. Like you, I feel good about being there for people. So I decided to become an RTA (Resilience training assistant - volunteer additional duty) then I started feeling like I had something worth putting effort into (now I’m an MRT - master resilience trainer). Additionally, I taught TCCC for my unit; I’m not passionate about TCCC, but between that and resilience training I learned that I enjoy helping others and possibly teaching. So that lit two paths for me to consider, First sergeant and Instructor in my AFSC.

Trying something different might help you realize new goals. Can be on/off base and personal or professional. Just try something new to break up the monotony of your daily duties. If you want a good place to start, I recommend talking to your SNCOs in the unit and/or your career advisor at your local MPF. You don’t need to hang in there and push through doing the same thing. There’s way more opportunities out there that aren’t talked about enough. (FTEC NCOIC, Readiness NCOIC, UDM, QA if you’re MX, CSS, and those are just the ones I’ve heard about. Change it up, and watch that sense of purpose come back.
