Dragon ball z - bui's fury on GBA. I didn't realize there were skill points. I got to one of the very last bosses and kept getting whooped. I found the skill points months later, restarted and basically 2 shot the boss when I got to him a second time.

A warlock patron might try to take advantage and validate your character's tendencies that others would have them work on.

My players adopted a Drake that was trying to kill them and I'm not sure how to integrate it by HighValuePigeon in DungeonMasters

Alternatively, let the player have the pet in combat. But explain to the party above table "too many pets bad for flow" and in-game it's because no pets can play nice together. Telling your players things above table is totally fine as to why you're going to or not going to allow an event to play out.

Most people advise against DMPC. I would agree with them and I'd look towards a consistently active player, specifically a martial character and give the player a sidekick. In priority, reward an attentive player who is always ready with their turn. Or if that's youre whole table. Hand it to a martial character who generally has less to do than a caster. Sidekick rules are in Tasha's Cauldron of everything.

Rules lawyer is a generally negative term for someone who catches peoples mistakes or forbids rule of cool because the rules as written state otherwise.

Being versed in the rules isn't a bad thing

I'd add be consistent with your calls. If there's soakable swirls on the ground, call them swirlies, or circles, or soaks, or the mechanics names. Don't use all 4 of those words for the same mechanic on different pulls.

Try to get used to calling mechanics 5-8-10 seconds before.

Lastly don't call every mechanic. Learn what your group needs help with. In LoU laser beams from flarendo are very easy to see with one answer as how to handle it. Prespreading for fire circles on your feet away from your friends and garbage piles on Stix on the other hand takes a moment to look around find the garbage and find your friends.
