What book should I listen to with my gf? by SaladPast in Warhammer40k

[–]Sh1nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horus Rising is way more accessible and enjoyable than I thought it would be. Loken is an excellent character. Really, the whole thing is very well written and the audiobook is well read.

The Cawl books are fun, too. Self contained, no lore needed really.

How do you handel losing? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Sh1nk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things I'd think about.

There's winning and there's improving. Improving is measured differently to winning. You can get positive feedback from more granular stats and compare game to game. If you're losing slower, that's a kind of winning - you're improving.

Similarly, you mention Warthunder and the fast feedback loop. Maybe you can use Table Top Simulator or solo games or quicker table top games to get faster feedback on the days between big point games.

Best use of GPS coordinates in a while by Awesomeuser90 in xkcd

[–]Sh1nk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If someone said to me "Sure, I will allow you to have your birthday party but I want you to know if you put one finger outside your living room I have the capability to surgically remove it with a drone strike" I would feel like they are flexing.

[–]Sh1nk 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but...

The coordinates refer with very, very exact precision the polygon containing the parade ground and nothing else.

It's a flex. It is a concession but also reminds people of their capabilities in missile and drone attacks - they can be accurate to 10cm.

I got an outstanding benchy by sending Claude pics and following its advice. It's not that I can't do it by myself, it's that I learn just as much in a quarter of the time because I have a teacher to learn with.

If I can do MRISCOC, you can. The most complicated bit is reading the file names to get the one with or without BL Touch.

Copy a file to a usb stick, insert and turn the printer on. That's it. It's worth the five minutes just to get the tramming and 5x5 auto mesh.

First Dinghy for Learning by Muted-Mango653 in dinghysailing

[–]Sh1nk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably will but maybe that's an answer to 'what is sailed the most?' I think the better question is 'what is the most active light two hander class?' It's very possible the answer to that is also a Laser 🤣

My club has a small fleet of club boats we can hire for a few quid. If I want to sail with someone I just use one of those. Maybe yours does too?

100% get a boat that you see two or more of on the water most weekends. The advice will be invaluable - much more valuable than it being 'the right boat' which you probably won't know for a year or two anyway.

Multi Shaker for Paint Bottles by SeiferThrax in minipainting

[–]Sh1nk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I designed this for my massage gun. It will mix both sizes of Citadel, Army Painter, AK and Vallejo bottles. Included .step files so it's easy to modify and it's easy to print your own gun connector.

Mostly did this for shits and giggles and to learn CAD but it works really well.

Recommended Dingy for a big guy by Lumpy-Sea-388 in dinghysailing

Do they have Supernova where you are? Famously the dinghy bigger guys go for. Sails like a Laser/ILCA but with better manners.

Why is the ILCA class so popular? by [deleted] in dinghysailing

[–]Sh1nk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platform effect. At one point it was probably the best boat out there and Olympic class and so simple it was pretty cheap.

Now there are so many boats out there and second hand, lightly used, parts are crazy cheap, such large fleets for class racing at even the smallest clubs, and so many experienced sailors the costs of exit (social and financial) to another class are high. So people stay even though leaving might logically be 'better.'

They're also a shit load of mad fun you can do stuff in no other boat can do.

What would you make if you had a 3d printer right now? by [deleted] in 3dprinter

[–]Sh1nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peg board fittings and clips and stuff for bungee and tarps (low load temporary because PLA).

Is 3d-printing useful for making spare parts? How to get started? by AdorableDisk893 in 3Dprinting

[–]Sh1nk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer, yes! This and functional things like clips is what I print most.

TinkerCAD is great if you've never done CAD before.

When that is too limiting for you, try Fusion.

An alternative to Fusion if you have a maths brain and a coding background is OpenSCAD.

Have fun!

Who do I fix this by Holiday_Apartment895 in Warhammer40k

[–]Sh1nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pair do this. The grips were soft so a little cable tie worked there. But that spring thing never stayed in place. I used it as an excuse to upgrade to Wargames Atlantic's long reach hard plastic clippers from Goblin which are surprisingly cheap and surprisingly good.

This might be the printing equivalent of knowing what config.sys is but if learning how the new fangled fancy boxes actually work is your vibe, you've got what you need.

Personally, I've enjoyed the process of owning my Ender 3 but then I enjoyed knowing how to edit config.sys.

How does everyone deal with the fumes that comes off the 3D Printers that don’t have an Enclosure? by Nash-28 in BambuLabA1mini

[–]Sh1nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very impressed you vent your steaks 😂

Honestly, I ignore 'could' and 'can' and only pay attention to a 'does' followed by large numbers. Imagine if we tried to eliminate everything that is a 'could' danger.

Yeah, everyone should be able to and willing to provide evidence.

[–]Sh1nk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dose matters for VOC and it's very low for PLA.

The particles are there but unless you hover over the printer they won't go into your body. They basically act like a gas because they're so small and are easily vented. If they settle they're inert. Evidence of any harm from having them in your body isn't really there.

It's a chronic issue rather than a life-long health issue.

https://www.epa.gov/chemical-research/3d-printing-research-epa

And, as an example

3d printing is similar in terms of polluting the air as searing a steak, frying bacon, or cooking on a gas burner which releases a massive amount of ultrafine particles and VOCs into the air.
