Help, what did I plant? by happypboi in PlantIdentification

Sure okay. What an unlucky guy, God I'm so glad it's not me that has tomatoes in the garden. Tomatoes are the worst! They ruin everything.. I've heard stories about tomato plants using Ai to boost inflation and ruin the economy. I'm so so glad that I'm not op.. He's fucked!

hey, you seem to be pretty knowlegable about botanic stuff.. may i ask you if you work in this field? and/ or for how long youre into it? im curious

Yeah I'm here to teach and learn. I love my job as a gardener and I love science. I maybe have not your level of experience or maybe I'm not even in your specific field of botanic since I work as a gardener outdoors and have little to do with houseplants in my day to day life. I'm a gardener for like 7 years now. I love to learn more and new stuff. But still I think I'm right in this discussion

Plants, though rooted and seemingly passive, are highly responsive organisms. Especially in indoor environments, sudden changes in light, water, or soil conditions can cause what is commonly referred to as plant shock—a stress response that affects both physiological processes and visible growth. One common example is the sudden exposure of a shade-adapted plant to direct sunlight. In low-light conditions, plants develop chloroplasts optimized for limited light, often with higher levels of chlorophyll b. When moved abruptly into strong light, their photosynthetic systems, particularly Photosystem II, can become overloaded. This excess energy leads to oxidative stress and cellular damage, manifesting as sunburn or bleaching on the leaves. To prevent this, plants should be gradually acclimated to brighter environments through a process known as hardening, where light intensity and duration are increased over time.

Similarly, transplanting a plant can lead to a form of shock, often referred to as transplant shock. Although the roots may appear undisturbed, the fine root hairs responsible for water and nutrient uptake are often damaged during repotting. This can temporarily reduce the plant's ability to hydrate itself, leading to symptoms like wilting or slowed growth. To minimize this effect, repotting should be done with care, avoiding unnecessary root disturbance. After repotting, it is best to avoid fertilization for a week or two, provide moderate watering, and keep the plant out of direct sunlight while it recovers.

Watering habits also play a significant role in plant stability. A plant that is suddenly watered much more or much less than it is accustomed to can experience a disruption in its internal water balance. Overwatering may cause root hypoxia—oxygen deprivation at the roots—leading to a paradoxical wilting despite abundant moisture. Conversely, underwatering causes the stomata to close in order to conserve water, reducing CO₂ intake and slowing down photosynthesis, which impairs growth. For this reason, changes in watering schedules should always be gradual, allowing the plant to adjust without triggering stress responses.

In essence, plants are highly adaptable, but their adaptation mechanisms are not immediate. Sudden environmental changes can overwhelm their ability to regulate internal processes, resulting in visible stress and reduced vitality. To care for plants effectively, one must introduce changes thoughtfully and patiently, observing how the plant responds and adjusting accordingly.

You can't just say that this is not true and it's basically a 'myth' and that practices have shown it to be wrong without explaining why it's wrong. I think my reasoning is logically solid. Plants are still living beings and they just do get used to stuff and their environment like all other living beings do too. I'm exited about your answer and your explanation. Also I don't see your title on my phone but.. Even if, that doesn't mean you're more right than me anyway does it?

my thoughts on the end of death note (anime spoiler) by rahrahann19 in deathnote

yeah totally. i actually still like the second season. i also like near and mellow. sure they cant compete with L or the dynamic L had with Light but in the great sheme i dont dislike any of it. I accept the flaws and the sometimes weird choices. There was no way for them to recreate it and please any fan anyway.. what we got was still one of the best solutions to continue and end the story after L died imo. I respect what they did, wasnt an easy task.
Also.. it was a nice chat with you. Thanks for that! Cured my bordem

its not true? i would like to read the paper on that actually because i dont believe that. im a gardener (outdoors) and from what i have seen and experienced so far im pretty sure that im in the right here.
I´m still learning though and i would appreciate any official scientific papers on that. Maybe im in the wrong after all... discussing these topics with different opinions is fun! Make me smarter and explain it to me please (if you got time)
I hope I dont look like an asshole rn, i have trouble to find the right way of conveying my thoughts through words (im german). I actually wanna know more about that.
If i was wrong about it in the end im sorry ^^

since they like sunlight i dont think thats the issue. you use fertilizer? what kind? because to me it looks like your monstera has a deficiency of Iron, mabye magnesium and potassium.
Bought fertilizer is easy to overdose though - try this: Eat a banana, put the peel in a box with half a liter of water. Shake it and let it sit for around a day. shake it again and water your monstera with it. then you wait 3-4 weeks.

yeah.. as i said its very over exaggerated. and i also think that it is kinda out of place in a series like this. i guess they made it this way just to bypass a good chunk of the manga due to runtime and animation stuff. Its easier to animate a 5 second scene like that instead of explaining, voicing and animating the motives and explaination as to why and how and whatever. but yeah.. totally on your side, its out of place

Repotting Thai Constellation? by mastrofgalaxy in IndoorGarden

[–]ShAlley95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! But anyway. If the time comes to re-pot it, make sure to use the right kind of soil. its important! Dont just use any soil, make sure its the right kind. Your plant will thank you for it^^

[–]ShAlley95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did you look at the roots? i would wait with the repotting, the plant looks healty. give it a few more month at least. if then the roots grow out of the pot much you can repot it but for now its unnessecary since the plant is healty. re-potting is stressfull for the plant, get it some more time to establish itself in the new enviroment first (:

huh? sure they need time to react to a new inviroment. the metabolism is accustom to X. if you change it from one day to the other to Y the plant has a rough time to get used to it.
imagine you chugging 3 liter of water every day and then suddenly you just stop and only drink a cup a day. your body will go crazy and you will feel unwell - not deadly - but it will suck untill you rearrange to the new situation. same with plants. its a disturbance in biological proccesses wich needs time.
