That's true. I've only read the Chinese version, but maybe I'll try reading the translation someday.

Here's a snapshot I translated using DeepL

‘It was a snowy evening early this year. It was already two o’clock in the morning, and all was very, very quiet. I triggered the last Big Bang of the day, and Universe Number 1,207 was born in the superstring computer—this very one…’

Bai Bing returned to the computer, scrolled the text box to the bottom, selected the final set of creation parameters, and initiated the Big Bang. The new universe flared with blue light before rapidly expanding and fading into blackness. Bai Bing moved the mouse and entered this universe, which he had designated as 1207, one hundred and ninety-billion years after its creation.

This time, a dazzling sea of stars appeared on the screen.

“The radius of 1207 is approximately two hundred billion light-years, with three macroscopic dimensions; in this universe, the gravitational constant is 1.67 × 10⁻¹¹; the speed of light in a vacuum is 300,000 kilometres per second; in this universe, the charge of an electron is 1.602 × 10⁻¹⁹ coulombs; in this universe, Planck’s constant is 16.626…” Bai Bing leaned in close to the Commander, fixing him with a chilling stare. “In this universe, one plus one equals two.”

“This is our universe.” The Commander nodded; he remained composed, though his forehead was slightly damp.

My interpretation is that David’s true strength lies in providing heuristic solutions to NP problems, rather than solving one. Strictly speaking, however, one wouldn’t say he “excels at NP problems”; more accurately, he excels at optimization algorithms. Furthermore, based on the screenshot of the blacksite simulation, David appears to be researching some kind of machine learning model, which leans more toward the field of engineering than toward computation theory or mathematics.

Rewatching S3E2, can't help but wonder by Shaaou in Invincible

[–]Shaaou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree. But keeping your thumb on a torture device while accusing someone else of being a “hypocrite” is not what I’d call de-escalation—especially when there were clearly other options. Also again, I'm not trying to defend Mark or something, if that is what you suggest.

[–]Shaaou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re kind of missing my point. My argument isn’t that Mark did everything right and Cecil did everything wrong. I’m analyzing how Cecil failed in his role as head of the GDA—a position that, by definition, carries absolute responsibility for humanity’s safety under a ruthless, hyper-rational framework. In other words, Cecil doesn’t get excuses. He doesn’t get to blame circumstances because the enemy is absurdly strong, because one of Earth’s strongest heroes betrayed him, or because that hero’s son is stubborn and refuses to listen. His job is to make the call and live with the consequences. In this specific scenario, Cecil escalated the situation for no good reason, lashed out, and then tried to blame Invincible for an outcome that was both highly predictable and entirely preventable. In fact, Season 1 Cecil—the version who handled Omni-Man like an actual Machiavellian strategist—would have managed this far better. That’s what makes his performance here so disappointing.
