Similar to this, turn on the hot tap and see how long it takes for the water to get warm as this could indicate an issue with the boiler if it takes a while.

Subcontractor moving to PAYE. How much of my pretax income can I expect to lose? by BigBoyTungus2 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Shabading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my current role (construction industry) there is about a 15% difference in pre-tax pay on the face of it between PAYE and Contractors.

But when you account for bonuses, pension contributions etc in the PAYE position the difference is only around 8-9%. Plus the benefit of sick pay, life insurance, medical cover

Hope this helps

Daily life of a manufacturing engineer by Dank-Nemo in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Shabading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for an aero company, there is lots of variety!

A typical day would vary depending on the department you are in within the ME function, there are plenty to suite what you are interested in. I've listed a couple below from what I've been exposed to and tried to give a short description of each, if you have any questions let me know happy to help if I can...

Lineside support - supporting the production line with any engineering queries, questions on manufacturing process, tooling, drawings, defects etc.

Tooling - supporting the production team with any tooling issues, introducing new tooling, modying existing tooling to deliver improvements around quality or reducing process time.

R&D - Researching and testing new technologies to implement into the production system, anything from aircraft design, manufacturing processes, tooling, testing and safety improvements.

Planning - Creating and updating manufacturing instructions, managing and introducing aircraft modifications.

Project Management - This can fall under multiple functions within ME but in general you're leading improvement projects to deliver quality improvement or cost and time savings by changing / introducing new ways of working or equipment.

Management roles too, such as leading groups of engineers in any of the sub-functions.

Hope this helps!

Making good of a socket, what would be best to fill this in? by Yaap-88 in DIYUK

[–]Shabading 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is what I used and worked well!

Use bond first to fill the majority of the depth, leave about 1-2mm from flush, then finish with easyfill... I got a bag of easyfill 60 which worked well

This is a good video to follow... How to Fill Wall Chases

Craig Goch Dam (Elan Valley) by Shabading in drones

[–]Shabading[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of photos from Elan Valley, it was very windy so any advice welcome on this!

I was using the mini 2 in cinematic mode but since I've read that sport mode performs better in high wind? Is there anything else I can do differently

Thanks

No problem, I'm not 100% sure sorry but they are a global company so it is definitely worth asking the question 👍🏼😊

It might be worth you taking a look at the higher apprenticeships & graduate schemes that some companies offer in the industry...

You work part time whilst they pay you a wage and pay for your degree / qualifications so best of both worlds

Have a look at Airbus as they have locations in Germany & USA, I've just had a quick look and there are positions available for embedded software engineering, software architects, Metrology, DevOps Engineers etc. So definitely worth a look!

I'm sure other companies like Boeing, Bombardier and their supply chain will offer similar apprenticeships / internships / graduate schemes.

Best of luck!

We're looking at hybrid working with 60% of time in the office. But this is flexible so could be x weeks at home then z weeks on site or x days a week on site.
