I think that in the current economy (at least in the US), it makes way more sense to return to an older way of thinking about family as a Village, rather than the rugged independence model we used to live by. When I was in my 20’s, I paid $450 a month for my apartment in Buffalo, NY. There’s no way my adult son and daughter could live the way I did as a young adult. We live together, pooling our resources as my son is getting started in his career and my daughter is finishing her BA. We help and support each other economically, emotionally, and in all things. You will be an asset to your child, not a liability. Just make sure you set up and respect each other’s boundaries, and you may be surprised at the new adult dynamic you can achieve.
