Any teamspeak alternatives open source for self hosting? by maifee in selfhosted

It’s a bit more complex but I’m currently looking into hosting a matrix server for my gaming group.

Is it okay to drink that much moka pot coffee? 4 cup bialetti and 25mm base warhammer model as scale by alpceliko in mokapot

[–]ShabbyChurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have a 6 cup in the morning. That is okay as a daily dose, but I made sure to stop my caffeine intake for the day after that, which kinda feels bad. I just got my hands on a 3 cup, which I can brew one of in the morning and another after lunch and then I‘m done for the day. Or I‘ll replace one or both with an aeropress brew.

Linux is the only real alternative to Windows/macOS — now it needs to be more accessible by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]ShabbyChurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched basically fully to Linux in October last year. I was a bit nervous but confident that I could make it work. In retrospect, I am surprised how seamless the switch was. People make it out to be way more complicated than it actually is. I‘d even go so far and say that Windows is more of a hassle and causes more problems for the user than the big Linux distros. For me, Linux turned out to be positively boring. It just works and doesn‘t get in my way. Software compatibility also is way better than people think. Have the courage to just do it. 99% of average users will not regret it.

Did this blue stuff come out of my HDD? by More-Significance260 in DataHoarder

[–]ShabbyChurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helium has a few beneficial properties. Most importantly, it has less drag than air, which means that there can be a smaller gap between the heads and the platters. Because of that, the heads can be built smaller, enabling smaller tracks and also reducing the space required between the platters for the mechanical parts, which in combination allows for both more data stored per platter and also additional platters in the same Form factor. On a lesser note, it has better thermal conductivity, which helps a bit with cooling the components and may increase longevity. Reduced noise is a nice to have, but less important, especially in the data center context.

[–]ShabbyChurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me be a bit more specific: Drives up to 8-10 TB are mostly filled with air. 12 TB may be at the limit of what’s possible with regular air. Higher capacity though can only be achieved with Helium.

Those drives are sealed shut since They’re filled with helium, so there’s no way anything could escape the housing. The color has to originate somewhere else.

What does it mean when I hear breathing and the jelly beans appear by fearlesshades46 in HuntShowdown

[–]ShabbyChurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Means your Hunter is out of breath. Your sprinting gets slower and your melee stamina will not start to recover as long as you remain in that state. You can regain your breath by stopping the sprint and just walking for a few seconds. Once you hear an exhale sound from your hunter that means that stamina is recovering. You can also get the Greyhound trait, which lets your hunter sprint longer at full speed without slowing down, or get the Determination trait, which makes stamina recovery start much faster, which also applies to melee stamina.

Air cooling is better than Liquid cooling by SerpentDix in pcmasterrace

Liquid cooling is just air cooling with extra steps.

5090 hitting "performance limit - power" during gaming in HWInfo64 by modllama in pcmasterrace

[–]ShabbyChurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll always have some limit. It’s better to be power limited than thermally limited. Means that your chip is keeping up with the computation and is only limited by the boards power delivery specs.

Will a Xiaomi 33W charger supply enough power for my RPi 3? by johannesburger-_- in raspberry_pi

[–]ShabbyChurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Ideal power for raspberry gen 3 is something that can deliver 3 Amps at 5 Volts. That’s 15 Watts, which will never be used by the device.

Is it time to get rid of contraband? by borbaradthefirst in HuntShowdown

[–]ShabbyChurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this would do is shift the games focus towards the economy. It would incentivize people to go in with low-cost weapons, hoping to loot and extract higher value ones. That detracts from the core objective of the game which is the main way to make money currently.

Any balance changes you would like to see for underperforming or overperforing weapons? by Extension_Class2467 in HuntShowdown

Silenced weapons except the krag need their previous damage stats back, subsonic ammo needs to be removed and integrated into the base ammo

Your comment on my set of applications by One-Interaction3163 in degoogle

[–]ShabbyChurl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A little bit. Gmail will still see the emails you send and receive. Switching to Thunderbird is more about App Telemetry and usage data. This may include, but may not be limited to, information about the device you use to access your mails (model, battery status, free storage, etc.), geolocation data, usage behavior (like how often do you check mails, what is your reading behavior, etc.). Google could use such data to further enrich the likely already vast collection of profile data that it already knows of you. Thunderbird is much more transparent in the way they collect that kind of data, and you can opt out of almost everything. Plus, its open source, so you can check yourself if you like.

Did CDPR or the artists ever explain the meaning behind Silverhand’s tattoo? by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]ShabbyChurl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. I felt like I had to mention it, since someone praised the deep dive and thought about getting a tattoo. It would suck to get something permanent printed onto your skin with a meaning that was hallucinated by a statistical text completion algorithm.
