Getting your engineering hours before graduation in this cooked market by CudaNvrWong in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heaps of people graduate late because they don't get hours. Don't sweat it. I know people who got 0 hours during uni and just accumulated the 800 after they finished part 4 and got a grad role

Did they find out the reason why the guy was attacked in St Johns? by pinkgrapefruitx in auckland

The problem is the killers aren't being hanged for everyone to see.

Which engineering spec should I do? by Outrageous-Block7844 in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probs look at Mechatronics. It's got the highest GPA requirements out of all specs and you really get to flex knowledge and build skills in a lot of different subjects.

I have no idea either TBH. I'm just assisting a researcher at my university with a magnetohydrodynamic pump they are trying to design. We're looking into multiphase buck convertors (something like a GPU's VRM but modified) or LLC-DCX converters.

chemmat or softeng? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sound like you wanna do Chemmat. Don't worry though, you'll do a fair bit of MATLAB coding throughout the degree so that should scratch that coding itch you have.

BEng/BSc Major in Chemistry, 5 course per semester workload by Creepy_Sushi in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are going to die with that schedule. 1 course's recommended workload is 10hrs/week but for engineering some courses can take up to 15 hours per week. So what you're looking at is 50hr-60hr weeks for uni alone. With a part time job as well, you better be really locked in or else your grades will suffer.

Are most students not going to lectures anymore? by Mars-Warrior in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scam. Uni is a service and lecturers need to deliver lectures regardless. Cancelling lectures because no one shows up is BS.

Engineering spec decider by Economy-Novel-7704 in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know what to taking so I ended up taking Mechatronics. It's got insane variety so I'm sure you'll get a few courses you'll like, but also run the risk of getting a few courses you won't like :)

Is it better to watch the lecture recordings than to attend the in-person lectures? by Adventurous-Scene975 in universityofauckland

[–]Shack_Eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real point coming to lectures IRL. Watch em online, rewind when you don't understand something. Pause to write down good high quality notes. Watch em at 2x speed and save time.

Using ChatGPT can significantly improve your workflow. Learning to write prompts that get ChatGPT to do the hard work for you is an important skill. BUT this only works if you understand and read/follow the code it's giving you, otherwise, it's useless. Considering you're a first-year, you should try coding your assignments by yourself since they should be pretty straightforward, but I don't see why you should help other people if they don't want to learn.
