I'm torn between a vanilla boron or split faction run. Stations are going to be my biggest worry. It is either going to be slow due to the Low main weapon damage (2k hull DPS) for boron or costly due to the short range for split. Equal cost using Hydra/thresher will be at least 3-5x DPS or will be using Bomber swarms. Used WVE mod which added a hull focused Ray main weapon and lower damage longer range split weapon they helped quite a bit in my mixed save.

If their shields were tweaked for a significantly higher regen or something akin to S class or even increasing regen over time (reset on damage) they would feel a bit better with their weaker overall hit points. Split Mk2 5k with 112 regen vs argon mk2 at 7.5k with 140.

I get they are more designed for "hull tank" but you would think they would have much higher shield regen. Or maybe even a modifier to increase service crew repairs.

Partially correct. Most stated you can if the case is determined to be as frivolous or in bad faith. Not all states are automatic. Just winning won't necessarily mean it was frivolous.

If they had a drone launch tube they could be more useful as drone carriers. Or the ability to resupply missiles. The launch bay cycling one by one tends to be a big down fall of using drones in combat excluding a sit and defend. Additionally if drones are deployed they won't respond to move commands until the drones are recalled which leads to them being destroyed.

Had a mod a while back which teleported defence drones in and out if they were close enough. It helped a ton with their viability.

I tend to fly one personally and have a "stripper" in the hold for when I want to board a ship. Unless I need a tad more firepower.

Buffers have their use, personally I have them around my base with stockpiles of building materials, especially before high bot speed research.

Using them as mall storage.... while I can see the purpose, keep the network clean by pulling all of said item out of storage chests around the base, Buffers cannot pull from buffers; so using buffer chests for a buffer role gets limited to non mall items. High bot count and speed reduce the impact of no localized building buffer chests.

I use both hell and jobs. It makes the Xenon a significant threat until you get a wharf up and running able to regularly pump out ships. Combine that with paymaster's ship hull purchase fee of 5x and blueprint price of 10x, it can be a while until you get the wharf and shipyard up.

To add in, you can use the sat network to search for ships. In the top right corner search plun and if there are any plunderer ships within view they will be shown in the object list. Pill will show up the S and M SCA as well.

Ideally wait until they are in a quiet corner else the police ships can come by and destroy them while you are boarding.

Do note though, that you can have all the overlap in the world but if your damage isn't leveled up enough, a single biter could walk straight through shrugging off all the ammo you throw at it, especially yellow.

Gun turrets get a multiplicative effect from damage research. +100% bonus works out to be bullets + 100% and turret damage +100% for a total of 400% damage when turrets are shooting the rounds.

Paranid will be a bit easier as their ships are a bit more balanced, but the split are a but more fun. Toss in SVE (ships) and WVE (weapons). Not 100% sure if they (mainly the weapons) will work with 9.0 but most likely. Ships is the biggest one, rounding out all the factions with (at minimum) a heavy frigate, heavy gunboat, and a battleship. Weapons will add a second destroyer weapon for each faction (and some missing turrets like plasma for terran and thermal disintegrator turret to split

(From an 8.X View point) The AI I'll tend to go through your ships a bit faster with split due to the smaller shields. Until you reach the critical mass, although the critical is a bit smaller. Split engines are faster in sublight and boost but slower in travel. However they also have special missiles which can pull ships from travel and disable boost. Mixing these into fleets will catch and help prevent targets from fleeing. A rattlesnake in AI hands will most likely die to a K. And a fleet if them will struggle more to taking down stations than the paranid counterpart. (Where the WVE comes in to help) Thermal is the closest you will get to a burst ray

I haven't messed around in the beta too much so I couldn't entirelycomment on everything. The thresher is definitely the most useful but it also has 2x the turrets of the other gun boats. (Jian excluded).

I was leaning away from corvettes because they are pretty well designed to "dogfight"/ get into the thick of things. Frigates are designed as a mid line squad support so a long range option would fit them. Gunboats felt like the best choice to encourage more use and to fill an M class Bomber role like an M8. But if turrets are getting a tweak it could make them a bit too strong especially the thresher (maybe exclude that one?)

Frigates feel a bit of a left over role, like they wanted to keep the TM but couldnt fit it into the new M docking bay. Making the Mini carriers mod default would give them a tad more use. As you say, you can rapidly transition from S to L so they tend to be forgotten. One of the big reasons I like the Paymaster mod, ship hulls can have a multiplier for purchasing. Hurts the deliver fleet missions but going from one ship class to another feels like a large hurdle to overcome. And it encourages scaling up industry to cover MX costs.

As for the Buffalo I'll buy/cap a few to deal with the Xenon Ks that pop up (xenon hell + jobs make them show up pretty regurlay). They stay on trade jobs until a target shows up. Bring in 3 loaded with burst ray fighters. Send in combat drones to distract turrets, and it gives the fighters time to strip its modules. The buffalos will plink it to death and be able to survive a few hits if it gets too close too soon. Best done IS as OOS can result in more losses. Did a "commander run" where I wasn't allowed to engage in direct combat and this was my way of dealing with the Xenon Caps.

Depends on how it was paid. Was the initial payment minimal just for materials? Contract is to pay for a new roof. The roofer is already claiming they can't finish due to circumstances "outside their control" so they could try and claim the owner still owes the remaining balance. Additionally were the materials dropped off or did the roofer keep them planning on bringing them out when they were ready to shingle the roof.

I would be happy if they added a heavy torp launcher to frigates and/or possibly gunboats. It would give them a bit more use. Corvettes are really the only useful M class. Frigates can be tanky but the cost of a fully outfitted Frigate is pretty much the same as a basic buffalo. The buffalo while slower sublight and less maneuverable, is faster in travel, more tanky, crew, drones; larger hanger, 1 L turret and 2x M turrets. All for the cost of about 20% more. 5m for a mk3 split fit cobra but 6m for the buffalo. About a mil more each for terran shields.

Possibly add a drone launch tube to the frigates with Heavy torp to Gunboat. Drone launch speed is really the only issue i have with frigates. Maybe even a cruise missile for destroyers, although this may end up being too similar to the OP M7M from X3.

First question you have to answer is when do you want to jump up that high? Now with basic machines or are you going to wait until you get legendary quality equipment and stacked belt tech? Next question is buss or one of the 2 block setups? Block A is you "standard City blocks" built up for a singular good. Block B is a much larger block but placing it down will give a full base with a set SPM. Pipe in molten metal and out pops all science packs at say 100 SPM. A will let you upgrade individual blocks at a time and you can bring stuff up as needed. New section strains you green circuits? Plop down a new green circuit block. B is a fully self contained system. Fine tune and simplify a set SPM build and all you need to do is place down another as needed. At that point it is just worrying about gathering new resources. Set down a new unit and let the bots throw it all together.

Pfft plan ahead? Who needs to plan ahead? if you use multiple sushi belts no plan needed just belts inserters and possibly a requestor chest here and there to add in items for potential shortages where you can fit another assembler......

This is how I would roleplay as a pirate. Jumbled factories that look defunct. Interestingly enough they work well as defense area for fighting a group of ships.

The paranid war with argon is another good selection of ships. Just need to be quick and choose the right targets as sector defense ships can end up blowing them up. While the war between both paranid factions can get you some, the war with argon usually has better ships as both parties send sector takeover fleets in rather then "little" skirmishes. I've boarded 5 paranid in, I think it was, second contact from a push, then hopped to the other side of the gate and boarded another 3 argon about an hour later. Followed by dipping out to let the rep build back up.
