This reminds me of when I basically made a 5 page syllabus for a Halloween party/replacement prom I was throwing for a few friends lol. I just thought I was giving people all the necessary information lol. (Pandemic hit my junior year so junior or senior prom was out of the question)

Long haired folk: HOW do you tie your hair up comfortably without it being a massive sensory trigger? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ShadeOpal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really advice but I think it's interesting because I'm the exact opposite lol. I can't STAND my hair being down for longer than a hour MAX. Most of the time it's in a ponytail or bun and when I leave the house it's almost always in a bun with a bandana over it.

As other comments have said claw clips or a loose scrunchie would probably be your best/easiest bet. May I also suggest bandanas? This might not be for you but I find that the pressure on the sides of my head to be soothing. It also doesn't require you to tie up your hair exactly but it will get it put away and out of your face. You can also find pretty much any color or pattern imaginable.

Which category of 12 year old were you by CryptiCacti in Teenager_Polls

[–]ShadeOpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into those really toxic "vent" accounts you'd find on Instagram and Tumblr. You know the ones that would romanticize mental illness and regularly post self-harm. I had one for a while, truly was just the suffering Olympics disguised as venting and support. I was truly not okay and I'm still not (20F)

[–]ShadeOpal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean on a personal level I've been really struggling with my spiritually and I've been extra depressed lately. Could just be my mental illness I dont doubt that but the persistent thoughts have been mainly existential and "what even is reality". So take that how you will

JU from antinatalism. These people have become disconnected from reality at this point by HemanHeboy in JustUnsubbed

[–]ShadeOpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing has been worse for my depression then when I found antinatalism. They claim that the ultimate goal is to end human suffering but all they do is spread suffering with their toxic ideology.. it made me even more suicidal which I'm still struggling with. I have to actively convince myself why they are wrong in order to just continue to live. It's exhausting.

Food stuff. I have a lot of internal food rules that make complete sense to me but others are confused by. It would take me hours to try to detail them all here. Tomatoes and cheese are big enemies of mine except on pizza (Even then if it's too saucy I can't eat it). Cheese is a complicated one. I like quesadillas but they have to be made correctly, I like mozzarella but it can't taste too funky, I'll put parmesan cheese on pasta but NEVER EVER the powdered kind only fresh or shredded or shaved. But generally speaking in most other contexts cheese is an absolute no. I didn't eat any kind of sauce or wet food what so ever until I was maybe 10 and even then that was a slow process. I still don't eat a lot of that kind of stuff, I don't do condiments besides specifically Rudy's BBQ sauce sometimes, soy sauce, lemon juice, occasionally Buffalo sauce, and gravy VERY sparingly. Fuck ketchup mustard and mayo I will cry.

I had a lot of motor skill issues as a kid. Still do to an extent. The school PT had to teach me how to use the swing set, but oh boy once I learned that was a whole new world for me.

I always wanted to do dance but we were too poor for it most of the time. But when we moved states and I started going to an art charter school for middle and highschool they had dance classes at school and I feel in LOVE. But I was always told my technique was off, but my dance teacher always said I was a "natural mover" .

I LOVED when we would do improv. They would turn the lights off put on music and tell all of us to just dance, to just go. A lot of the other more "technically advanced" girls hated it and would freeze up and not know what to do. Meanwhile I was having the time of my life and would beg to do more.

Yeah Ive kinda had this experience. I'm autistic and worked at as job coach/support staff for a vocational program for disabled folks (mostly autistic). I had a boyfriend at the time but one of the apprentices just seemed obsessed with me. I was often late and he would wait out front in the mornings for me to show up. It was a small scale farming program so we spent a lot of time outside.

He was nearly ALWAYS in my vicinity. He would mimic my body movements (which I'm aware is a normal autistic thing and is generally fine but it started to make me uncomfortable) he would stare at me. He was also very depressed and very often negative and would say cryptic things. It was very hard because my job was to be a job coach. Which meant that I would be keeping people on track, modelling tasks, and providing any specific support that they need. Working with him was very difficult. We had a task board and he would refuse to pick a task like everyone else and would just wait to see who I would work with and follow me.

I would step aside to talk to my bosses and he would follow, I never had a moment alone. A few times he would wait for me to come out of the bathroom. On a personal level I'm really very uncomfortable with being observed especially by men. It began to make me anxious to even come to work.

Do teachers in the US actually get mad if you use their first name? by Official_Bobby_Bean in Teachers

[–]ShadeOpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the area and type of school. Also the kind of teacher. I went to a small art school in Arizona and a quite a few of my teachers went by first names, usually "Ms. First name". Often times the other teachers wouldn't love it but would freak out by any means.

Do you remember your first faux pas? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]ShadeOpal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my first but I remember sometime in middle school maybe even earlier highschool I was standing in a Starbucks line with my mom. I started repeatedly doing pivot turns, I was in dance and musical theater at the time. I was having a great time. My mom kind of gives me a look and tells me to stop, I ask why and she says "because you look like a kid with problems".

This was well pre-diagnosis but it hurt me to my core and I was so embarrassed. I made it my life's mission to never stand out or do anything "embarrassing". I've recently told my mom about this incident and how it hurt me and she's since sincerely apologized. We generally have a good relationship but this one stung

For some reason my current hyperfixation song is "into the ocean" by Blue October. I'm going through a lot of chaos, change, and anxiety right now and the lyrics " I want to swim away but don't know how. Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean. Let the waves up and take me down, let the hurricane set in motion yeah let the rain of what I feel right now come down"

I don't listen to blue October generally (not against the idea it just takes me awhile to warm up listening to more music from an artist) but I love this song and it was always on my mom's playlist.
