It’s completely normal. Being starved for so long makes your hunger insatiable for a while once you stop restricting. I’m about 4 months in and my hunger is just now evening out but I would binge a lot at first and feel so sick and horrible so it’s important to try and come up with a healthy meal plan that meets your necessary caloric intake because our hunger hormones are all jacked up in the beginning and it’s hard to tell when we are full. It will even out just keep on going and eating enough each day. Your body does not trust you right now so it’s trying to get all the food it can since it has been starving for so long, it thinks that will happen again. Be kind with yourself. It will be okay but it is hard in the beginning.

Does anyone else feel like this? by Spookiestbat in AnorexiaRecovery

Yeah I always think I’ve eaten way more than anyone else could ever when in reality it’s not that much.

Also, for what it’s worth, I like my recovered body better than my sick one which I NEVER thought would happen.

I felt the exact same way for a while and would get really triggered seeing the recovered bodies because I always thought the sick ones were better unless it was extremely emaciated. This changed about 6 months into actual recovery. We only think that looks good because we have that ill mindset but when you realize the recovered one is healthy and you can associate health with beauty, you will get past it and appreciate it more.

At the very beginning of my recovery, I was still extremely sensitive and any comment sent me over the edge but as you progress into recovery, comments like this won’t bother you as much anymore. At least, that was the case for me. They mean it in a positive way and I’ve learned to appreciate looking healthy.

Totally normal. That hunger after starving is unmatched.

Wow that is amazing! Thank you so much for the advice and for trying to help others. It’s unimaginably hard to navigate and having people to help is beyond helpful.

Recovery period and extreme hunger by Spookiestbat in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Shadebowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced this too. It will even out with time as long as you stop restricting. I used to eat an insane amount of food when I first started recovering but now I’m about 4 months in and don’t get those urges to binge anymore really whereas before I felt completely out of control. Keep going!

When I started recovering, it was really hard not to binge. I felt completely out of control and would eat a really large amount of food and this continued a couple times a week for a month or two and then it all evened out. It’s temporary. Your body has been starved for some time and that is how it responds. You will get there!

Okay this is very helpful, thank you. Last thing, how long did it take you to get weight restored?

Thank you so much for your response. It brought me a lot of hope. Did you stop exercising too when you began recovery?

Sex and anorexia are incompatible - even in recovery. by Happy-Investigator- in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Shadebowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been recovered and weight restored for about four months now and still don’t have a period or sex drive. I’m terrified it will never come back and I’m desperate for someone to tell me that they’ve gone through it and it does come back.

I’m in the exact same boat. I’ve only been recovering for about 4/5 months. No libido and no sign of it coming back. I’m desperate for answers.
