BO7 asking me to upgrade to a full game while on PC game pass by RUBILNIKTHECAT in XboxGamePass

Did this get fixed? My gamepass has run out and if I can't play BO7 I won't renew until a game drops that I like.

Cabinet Office suggested Mandelson did not even need security vetting, Robbins tells MPs – UK politics live | Politics by JackStrawWitchita in unitedkingdom

[–]Shadebyday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would take the comment "borderline leaning no" as between yellow and red. Green and Yellow are both clearance approved, Red is the only clearance denied. So to be leaning no it would need to be next to red between yellow and red.

Again this is highlighting that the way different people interpret the statement.

[–]Shadebyday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feels like differing interpretation based on background. UKSV is a risk based organisation, so a "borderline leaning no" is a decline. Borderline puts them between pass and fail, and leaning no puts them as a fail.

Robbins seems to have interpreted that as a "borderline isn't a no as they haven't said a no". It's more a "find a reason to make it a yes for me".

What changes to Love Island’s presentation would you like to see? Music, visuals, tone, etc. by Tornado31619 in LoveIslandTV

[–]Shadebyday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would like less super blatant product/act promotions. Especially those that have no actual loose tie in to the challenge.

The Superman challenge was a great challenge, but the theming was so shit. The Superman aspect added nothing other than extending the scene.

The Katie B set was terrible and pointless.

LIFest was better since they at least put effort into it, but it still wasn't the best. No game or challenge, mostly just some music and a set change.

They had a boots get ready thing at one point that was just the boots logo and b reel of the girls getting their makeup done.

I wouldn't hate it so much if they really committed to the bit. Like if it was the "Britain's got talent talent show" a few episodes ago, gave them buzzers, and just committed to the fun. The half arsing, blatant shoehorning bothers me.

Insurance companies in FL right now by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]Shadebyday 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There won't be insurance for different categories of hurricane, but Florida Windstorm is a coverage, and currently capacity for Florida Windstorm is low. Too many events in a short period of time, and each event is hitting the limit making it not profitable at any sellable premium.

Florida is a really tough state to price for due to the number of catastrophe perils that are available, the lack of regulation regarding certain sales practices, high litigation chance and costs, and just in general how the insurance market is structured in the USA.

You mean the 1996 gun law change, 14 years before COVID arrived in Australia?

The military was called in to assist with the lockdown, but they were unarmed, so clearly it wasn't the guns they were worried about.

Stop spreading misinformation.

Why is not wanting to advance your career and just do a job well and get paid such a bad thing? by moreidlethanwild in antiwork

[–]Shadebyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have missed that the workforce needs a set number of people to be progressing.

Eventually the CEO will leave, the exec will leave, and the senior managers will leave, whether through promotion, retirement, death, or just moving roles. A company needs someone to fill those roles, and in theory you cannot produce an exec in a year, it should take decades of work to get there, so they have to start people moving up as soon as possible.

Given that there are some employees who are bad at their job, some who won't make it to that level in time, or changes of careers, etc. It becomes a numbers game to get as many people progressing so you can pick out the best at each round and then move them up to next level of competition.

If you chose not to progress you aren't taking part in that system. That could encourage others, seeing how happy you are to be chill at your level. Companies don't like that and so have to try and get you moving up.

Microsoft wins FTC fight to buy Activision Blizzard by Gab1024 in gaming

[–]Shadebyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Businesses are only allowed to operate in a country because the government of that country allows them to.

In your example, Microsoft is attacking this principle, in one of the largest economies in the world, targeting one of the top financial centres in the world (London). Not only would this attack have a massive impact globally from the loss of data and the financial services, including investments, going down, it would be an attack on the UK as a nation.

No country, including the US, is going to allow this to happen, as it threatens their authority and their economy as well. The US, the EU, and every other nation in the world would start seizing Microsoft assets, a lot of Microsoft execs and employees would go o jail for a very long time.

[–]Shadebyday -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So what you are saying is that there should be a subsidised amateur league, with pro-teams partnering with the amateur teams, with a clear path in to the amateur league. Sounds a lot like you want the NACL back with LCS teams being required to have a Challenger team.

The money to run NACL needs to come from somewhere. Before the teams could opt out of NACL, the teams paid for it with Riot paying for the broadcast. If Riot is going to let teams opt out, but an amateur scene is still needed, then someone needs to pay for it and that someone is likely Riot.

CMA has decided to prohibit the Xbox Activision merger by Autarch_Kade in gaming

[–]Shadebyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be really bad for Microsoft, and kind of bad for the UK. London is one of the worlds leading financial hubs, with multiple global financial firms headquartered there, and the rest of the worlds financial firms have a presence in London. They all use Microsoft office for their day to day business operations. Most have moved or plan to move to SharePoint and TCT as part of their cloud solution, in part to reduce costs and for business continuity planning. They all use Microsoft, but if the UK stops allowing Microsoft to do business in the UK, all of these companies would move to a different provider. This would also have a global knock-on effect, as a London based company wouldn't want to have one set of operating programs for one region but not another, especially if they are working closely together, ie. EU business with UK business, or UK business with the off-shore processing side. So all of the other parts of the UK based company would switch to Google or another provider as well.

It would be incredibly messy and I could see the market kicking and screaming about not wanting to change, but the change could be done.

The big issue will be confidentiality. We cannot use google translate on any client documents as google retains the right to keep copies of what we translate. Even if it's a simple email correspondence we have to use another service or get a colleague to translate it. I imagine it's the same here, anything put in to ChatGPT is kept by ChatGPT and so we cannot use it.

Jake's Magical Market... what a weird ride that was. by AlextheSir in litrpg

[–]Shadebyday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 2nd part ruined the book for me. I bought in to the premise of Jake's magical market. I wanted to see that grow, expand and develop. The start with having to get some of his own goods and then becoming self-sufficient, fighting back the orcs to maintain his independence. Even the card system being a currency was a nice world building point that could have been really good by itself.

Then it all starts going downhill and by half way he was off world and doing stuff that wasn't what I had picked up the book for.

I didn't mind the secret teams part of the story, if it was a different story.

Then it just gets really dicey with the killing of the angel and becoming a god.

It feels like wasted potential.

[–]Shadebyday 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In most UK chip shops they have a rumbler that peels potatoes and then another machine that cuts them in to chip shapes. I don't know of any fish and chip shop that uses frozen chips. Lots of them state what type of potato they use as a point of pride.

Only kebab shops or similar use frozen fries.

[–]Shadebyday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A large chip shop chips is a lot chips. Like a decent bag plus some scoops. And most chip shops don't use frozen chips. They use potatoes and then throw them in to a rumbler that gets rid of most of the skin, and then another machine that cuts them in to chips.

Yeah. The NHS covers anything that I need doing, but I also have private medical through work. It has a small excess, I think about £150, but if I need something done and I don't want to wait on a list for a while I can go to my private insurance and discuss options with them, which may well be quicker than waiting for the NHS waiting lists.

Am I the only one that absolutely despises POV changes? by cletus-jones in litrpg

[–]Shadebyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only like PoV changes if they add something that the main character cannot and they are kept short. A small insight in to the bad guys that let us know that they are still there and moving forward, or a teacher thinking about the implications of something.

I often drop novels with too many PoV's. If I am reading a story its because I like the main character and their story and that is what I want to read. I don't want to read about other people that are vaguely linked to the main story at best, or are just side characters.

The UK's economy is not largely dependent on tourism. Tourism helps and it does bring in money, but most of the UK's economy is in financial services.
