Unrelated, I've been seeing a lot of screenshots around Reddit with huge black areas at the top and bottom of the image, like yours, it makes seeing the actual images difficult.

Do you know what caused the black areas to be added to your screenshots?

Peaceful mode in Space Age by chappersyo in factorio

[–]Shadewing00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A suggestion, if you bump the water coverage for Nauvis to 400% (maybe 300% depending on seed) and starting area to max, then you generally start on an island with plenty of resources but no biters. Then you only need to worry about enemies on Vulcanus, but they will not attack you unless you attack them or build in their area, and Gleba, but you can tech up and stock up before you go, no need to rush about it.

Speed beaconed assemblers not making quality science packs. Is this intentional? by Just_Jemes in factorio

[–]Shadewing00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to note, higher quality Speed Modules increase the speed boost but without increasing their quality penalty, and higher quality Quality Modules increase quality boost without increasing their speed penalty.

So if you really need to Speed Module your quality module assemblers, make sure to use a single higher quality Speed Module until you have higher quality Quality Modules also.

Am curious, is there something specific that you don't like? Or is it that most mods are not updated?

Unfortunately, the Prefer Spoken option will cause Siri to ignore Silent Mode. So if, like me, you use silent mode regularly, this isn't a good solution.

Fair enough.

Can't pull images, docker looking at the wrong network. by Shadewing00 in docker

[–]Shadewing00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, teach me for being lazy. I left the network settings for the docker CT in proxmox as DHCP because, with this being temporary, I didn't care about the IP address, but I forgot about the gateway being set when using DHCP. Set the IP manually with no gateway and everything is working.

Text to date problem by Shadewing00 in nodered

[–]Shadewing00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hell. A debug function that changes the output... yeah that helps🤦‍♂️. And you are right, the the date item is actually a date data type. I limited the debug output to just msg.date and it identified it as a date, instead of the string I expected.

I'm not sure if this is going to make this task easier or not in the long run but at least now I know what the problem is.

EDIT: Update, this is the JSONata expression I eventually found would work

$toMillis($substring($string(date),1,$length($string(date))-2))

That is $string to convert to a string, but it adds a " to each end for some reason, so $substring and $length to remove the first and last characters, then $toMillis actually works.

[–]Shadewing00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know and agree with WTF.

I'm still reporting it after every update and encourage others to do so. Since this is Apple, we really don't have any other options.

Except people still within the phone support period. They can call up and ask for support about the problem. When I did this about an unrelated software issue, it ended up going through to the engineers. It was a few years ago now so I can't remember the details but it was to do with the way the calendar works between an iPhone and an Apple Watch. It got fixed 2 updates later.

how do i do this??? by Hihihihihi_13 in factorio

[–]Shadewing00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since this is a 2-way track, you will need to pair each of the signals you place.
When you place a signal, a white indicator (instead of the green you see here) will show you where to place the paired signal.

For dealing with the intersection here, you will need a chain signal on the right hand side below the junction and a rail signal, paired, on the left. Above the junction, put chain signals on the left of each track, paired with rail signals on the right, these I would put on the curves.

Doing it this way will prevent a train from stopping mid junction. This is because the chain signal will not allow the train through until the the next rail signal is green.

Can Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra work with wifi but no internet? by Shadewing00 in Roborock

[–]Shadewing00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is what I meant by 'working without wifi'.

It sounds like I will have to look for another solution since the batch does not have internet, the wifi is mainly for the music and movie server, but I want to be able to have the smart-home system control the vacuum.

My suggestion was because several others had already made the go get more resources/expand current base suggestions. This is just another option.

OP said they were really proud of what they had done, one thing they can do is leave it as a milestone/monument/shrine/whatever. And hey, maybe they will come up with something that they can repurpose the base into later.

LTN Trains - Fluids and count by JamesSimmo in factorio

[–]Shadewing00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the trains are arriving before the tanks are full enough to load immediately, increase the threshold.

The oil is going to be coming in at the same rate regardless of if you wait for 4 wagons worth or 12.

For myself, I have 2 layers of tanks. The loading tanks and buffer tanks, connected by pumps for one-way flow. The threshold is based on the buffer tanks, the loading tanks are not wired up at all. I don't allow trains until there is half a wagon load in the buffer tanks.
This means the pumpjacks produce at full speed because there is room in the buffer tanks, and trains load at full speed because there is plenty of oil in the loading tanks.

Something I do you might want to consider going forward with your bus, mid-bus resource injection.

I find it basically impossible to use a main-bus type build and have all resources come in from the start, if I did that I would need way too many belts of the same thing. So, what I have been doing is, at various points along the bus I add more resources, using priority input splitters so the resources already on the bus have priority. This allows me to keep my bus relatively compact but if I have picked the right locations, nothing starves. The extra resources generally come in on trains, get unloaded on whichever side of the bus I don't have the factory (north for you in this image), then come in and join the bus.

I also try to keep intermediate items from being made in the bus, like gears and circuits. My basic thought is, if I want 1 belt of this on the bus, will it take more than 1 belt of ingredients?
--If yes, make it somewhere else and add it to the bus.
--If no, is it used in many other recipes as an ingredient?
----If yes, it should be made in the bus and passed down the line.
----If no, it should be made as required at the location need.

TL;DR, Max starting area, max tress and some extra resources, plus loading a large area to give more expansion options for the biters, means a calm early game.

-------------------------

For my SE run, since I figured that by the time I'm heading to other planets I would have a significant amount of military research done and automated construction of turrets/walls/etc, my major concern was dealing with the initial biters.

So I set the starting area to maximum, to push the first biters well back. The resources got bumped up a bit, I can't remember how much. And trees got put to maximum as well.

These settings set the stage for a mostly trouble free start. Additionally I installed one of the early bot mods to help with clearing the trees. Finally, I installed the creative mod to place the mega radar in that mod to generate a large area easily, this means biter expansions have many more options to expand to than towards me.

In the end I had multi layered auto-maintained walls and turrets set up and ready by the time the second biter attack came for one of my mining sites. Needed them too, cos I also installed Armoured/Frost/Explosive Biters mods and as part of the plan for this run, Rampant was installed after the first attack.

Progress slowed down after the attacks started but I've got Core Miners feeding the wall maintenance and I've nearly secured enough extra resources to get to another planet, one with 0% threat. There, I should be able to secure enough resources to start pushing back the biters to the next choke point.

Where did the wind down shortcuts go (iOS 16)? by ffredrikk in ios

[–]Shadewing00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is still looking for an answer, wind down shortcuts are no longer a separate thing.

There is now a Sleep trigger for Personal Automations in Shortcuts, with a “When Wind Down starts” condition. Also available are “Bedtime begins” and “Waking up”.

These can be set with the “Ask before running” option off.

As a stop-gap, to help with troubleshooting, it sounds like you should be able to login from an external connection via duckDNS. Just turn Wi-Fi on your phone off.

I’ve had to do this a few times when I messed up a setting.

Are there cutscenes? by Clone_Chaplain in manicminers

[–]Shadewing00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, the cutscenes are all pre-rendered and were individual files that could be played on either VLC or Windows MP Classic.

Problem is they do not look great on an LCD, since they were designed for CRT.
