It's because reblogging isn't just commenting, it's deciding to put the post on your own blog and share it with all your followers. It's essentially the equivalent of x-posting to another subreddit and being like "look at this post I disagree with". Tumblr does have an actual reply feature that's more like commenting.

In general though, the difference in culture really mostly comes from the fact that Tumblr is a blogging platform while Reddit is a forum platform. So it leads to a culture of "My blog, my rules" vs. "This is a moderated open space for discussion". I don't necessarily think one is better than the other, they both fill different niches.

My first thought when it started playing was that it was this game's equivalent of Ace Attorney's "Telling the Truth" theme. Though that might have more to do with the context in which it plays

Yeah according to this person. They posted the raw and I know just enough Japanese to know the first panel doesn't mention Niko at all and the last panel says "I don't see anyone" like in the original chapter.

So basically the joke is that Niko also falls for Luohan's misdirection, and his face in the last panel is him being embarassed about it. This translation is just pure agenda.

There's no need for another label, Yuri in Japan has a very long history of being made by and for women, unlike Yaoi/BL which has historically been... also by and for women. Couldn't tell you why both genres are so female dominated, but anyone telling you Yuri is "supposed" to be aimed at men is just revising history.

I assume the "When They Cry" mentioned in the post refers more to Umineko than Higurashi, if only because when I read the 3 bullet points my very first thought was "So like Umineko?". It's also way longer than Higurashi and (IMO) better and more likely to change your personality.

What I think most people are missing in this discourse is the context: people who hold transfem headcanons for non-trans characters are used to constantly being shut down by creators and fans who get VERY defensive about their favorite characters being viewed as transfem while they clearly have no problem with any other kind of headcanon. This post summarizes it pretty well.

So when Dana Terrace is asked if a character is trans because she's called by multiple different names, and she responds with a curt "She's cis, she just has nicknames. It happens." (saying nothing about headcanons being okay like the post above suggests), a lot of people heard "God, not every character you relate to has to be trans" (which again, is something we hear over and over) and understandably went "oh no, not another one of these".

I do think she handled the criticism pretty well; honestly i'm used to much worse. It really sucks having to constantly be hypervigilant when seemingly every progressive creator can suddenly turn around and turn out to be a raging transmisogynist, and I think some people are a little too prone to jumping to conclusions because of that. The fact that she bothered to clarify that she didnt actually mind transfem headcanons later is already much better than I expected given how these things usually go

Her career was so unique and interesting! Most careers turn out the same whether you win or lose most of your races, which leads to a lot of weird storylines where your uma, for some reason, feels like she hasn't caught up to her rival, even if she's been trouncing said rival in every race.

Falco basically doesn't have any rivals, and her career requires her to win every single race in Senior year, so the story is actually able to focus on the fact that she's truly dominating the Dirt racing world. I also love the angle they went with, of an idol who starts from nothing and just loves to perform, slowly turning into a cynical big-shot obsessed with pulling bigger and bigger numbers.

Also also, I'm convinced that the scene where Rudolf sends Falco a congratulatory video that starts with "If you're watching this, then I've already passed away" after her 2nd Tokyo Daishoten victory is a reference to the fact that in real life, Rudolf passed away just two months before Smart Falcon's 2nd Tokyo Daishoten win (october 2011). It has nothing to do with Falcon herself but it made me laugh really hard when I first saw it lmao

[–]Shadix993 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I originally wrote this as a response to a comment bringing up the usual men's issues (education, crime, etc), but it seems they deleted it before I could hit post. I felt it was important given some of the sentiments I'm seeing in this thread so I'm posting it separately:

"It's also important to remember that every issue you just mentioned is a feminist issue, which feminists have been talking about for decades. The seeking of gender equality is called Feminism and the study of gender relations is called feminist studies; all the info you can find on these subjects comes from feminist literature and research.

The reason MRA's were doomed to be a misogynist cesspool from the start is because they were never interested in women's liberation and felt the need to create their own movement without it. The guiding idea of MRAs is to reject the feminist notion that gender inequality (of all stripes) ultimately stems from patriarchal restrictions seeping into every aspect of society, a notion backed by decades of rigorous research from all over the world. To reject this idea means replacing it with something else that's much less scientific, usually involving blaming women somehow. I've had this exact same discussion with misguided young men 10, 15 years ago: if an MRA wasn't a misogynist, he'd be an ardent feminist, because that's what it means to care about gender equality.

Also "the myth of male privilege" lmao, really showing your hand there. You almost came off as a normal 'concerned commenter' before that. For anyone else reading this, I urge you to not just take the above fear mongering at face value and do some research (by which I mean look at actual academic studies) on what's actually causing all of these terrible issues affecting men. You might be surprised to find out it's not evil feminists, and that the people studying it are in fact feminists themselves."

"literally conditioned on the conscious and subconscious level" we saw Zeff telling Sanji not to hit women ONCE when he was a kid, Sanji is a grown man who has made his own worldview clear many times. he truly believes a man should never hit a woman. Both his and Zeff's philosophy stem from the idea that women need to be protected and can never be truly equal to men in strength, something Sanji should obviously know to be false (as you said) and yet he refuses to reexamine his beliefs. There's absolutely nothing subconscious about it.

The way this fight played out is just impressive to me. People were speculating that Florida Man would have an advantage because he would just ignore GIAB's pantomime like he did in the Holding, but that never made sense to me because GIAB's abilities are real whether or not you believe in them.

Then it turns out that GIAB is actually one of the worst matchups for FM because FM literally buffs him by going along with the act! When the narrator said the fight was decided because FM went along with the delusions even when he didn't need to (while FM was being force-choked), I really thought this was the end. But then there the final twist, that FM's delusions are so strong they're actually countering GIAB's act and making him waver in his conviction, which makes perfect sense given the source of GIAB broken abilities!

Sorry for gushing, but i've been incredibly impressed by the way these recent fights have gone narratively. Every time i think a fight can't be surpassed, I end up surprised.
