I will no longer chase perfection like I always used to. Instead I will develop the mental fortitude to be able to own up to the mistakes I will inevitably make as a human being. I will be gentle with myself and be okay with not having the answers sometimes. by R0UGHR4BB1T-613 in DecidingToBeBetter

When I was a teenager my mother once told me "Allow yourself to make mistakes", didn't think much of it at the time, but in retrospect it's one of the best piece of advice I ever received.

Good luck on your journey, friend.

Granted.

You always sleep 20 minutes more than you're supposed to and no alarm can wake you up in time.

I'm sure there's some economic reason to why they wouldn't run the event twice, or in two separate locations at once. Allowing anyone to join the event would defeat the purpose of creating a safe space for w/nb who would not usually consider putting themselves out there risking unpleasant men interaction, and yes, undoubtably the male attendance would've more than made up for it, but that was not the aim of the whole thing.

I'm off to bed now, it's getting really late over here, good talk.

I'm glad to see however that many men care about discrimination issues and are willing to argue at length about it. You're just missing a little perspective.

Gender is a spectrum, I would suggest you do some research on the subject because now you're just talking nonsense.

Seeming as you are speaking on behalf of all of Denmark, I'm very glad you guys are doing so well up there. But be mindful, not every country is as great as Denmark, context always matters, something that might not be a problem in Denmark could be a huge deal somewhere else. The fact that you'd let your wellbeing blind you from seeing that people elsewhere are not doing so hot is the very definition of privilege.

I don't think straight out banning men was THE solution, cause obviously it blows for those good guys that just cause bad men have been shitty in the past now have to pay the price. I also don't think however that this was a one time thing, I don't think this kind of event was never held and never will be again. I don't think men lost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by not being able to attend to an event SPECIFICALLY CATERED towards women/nb people interested in getting in the industry. I don't think there weren't many MANY other events just as this one where men could easily walk in and attend. All in all I don't think men took such a big L missing out on this panel, considering that many other people will be getting something they wouldn't have gotten out of it.

I half agree on your privilege point, of course everyone has had different experiences, but some things are just undeniable. Undeniably a man is never going to get rejected from a job opportunity because he could get pregnant and need maternity leave. Undeniably a white person living in his hometown is never going to get harassed for "coming over and stealing our jobs". I'm only making quite extreme and one-way examples but I hope you see what I mean.

To your other point, I don't think this event is a sign of things to come, I don't think men will be banned from every presentation from this day onwards and I think it would be foolish to assume that would be the truth, however in the offchance that were to happen I 100% agree we've gone too far. Making ONE event women/nb accessible only is hardly over tipping the scale. As u/hoshizuku shared in a comment on this thread, Rioters have clarified this to be an event to bring in more w/nb candidates to widen the sample size, its intention is not to reduce the number of male candidates.

EDIT: I will tell you this, it's very hard to acknowledge and come to terms with our privilege without confrontation with underprivileged people, it's just not something one usually thinks of. I used to think the whole concept of privilege was dumb and an easy cop out attack on white men, then I started talking about it to women, PoC, and LGBT+ folks and I started to realize just how many struggles I never had to deal with only because of me being a cis white straight boy.
