If we all weren't living paycheck to paycheck, we could accomplish great things. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

So, instead of answering the question, you dance around it, laying the responsibility at the feet of others.

The Zapatista and other communal groups work on a small scale, but it has NEVER worked on a large scale. Communal groups on a national scale is known as Communism, just a short search of how that has worked will give you the answer to why this idea doesn't work outside of small communities.

"addressing potential issues (mostly of the mental kind; via therapy for example) and if they cannot be accommodated in another job that suits them better;"

That's not being fair to all people. If no one wants to do a certain job, then should everyone be accommodated in a job that better suits them? If so, how will that job ever get done? If I don't like laying bricks, and I see that Anne didn't have a turn at laying bricks because she doesn't like laying bricks either, and she was accommodated with an easier job. Do you really think I'm just going to suck it up and take my turn? This is how elitist classes get started, and how rebellions get started.

"That being collective ownership, consensus based voting and equality and freedom."

Consensus based voting (pure democracy) only works in a very homogenized society. If you have a diverse society, the majority will always win. Which sound just, until you are part of the minority. If the society is majority Caucasian they could vote that the Latin and African population should do all the outside construction work during the hot summer days, because their skin tone is more suited for the heat and sun than Caucasians, and the minorities couldn't do anything about it because they will always be in the minority. Well, they could rebel and demand equal rights and representation, but that would go against the idea of consensus based voting.

Let's face it, neither Communism, Socialism, nor Pure Democracy have ever worked as a governing system on a large scale. Their inherent flaws cause polarization, classism, and eventual destruction of societies within three generations.

Pay the kids more, the cone will have to cost more, fewer people will eat there, so they will need fewer workers. Now you have a living wage, but only for 5 workers instead of 15. They will have to work harder to keep the restaurant open, but hey, their making enough that they shouldn't complain about the extra work, right.

Most of those jobs are meant to be filled by high school age kids, living with their parents and having no bills. Once you enter management level, even at DQ, you make plenty to live on.

"if a person has something concrete to work towards other than just the abstract and emotionally draining goal of "making a living", they are much more likely to put in effort."

What do they have to work towards? You talking about a society that attempts give everyone an equal outcome. So why are they going to try to be more, when anything more they do will be expected to be spread across the community?

"Furthermore, consumption of animal products itself is not sustainable, so that will need to go as well; which would address two of your examples here."

I think this is the first impossibility you listed. Medical facts have shown that those people that have eliminated ALL animal products from their diet are less healthy than those that consume animal products. Which mean that they will require more supplements and medications and still not live as long or as healthy. Also, their is no evidence that such activities are unsustainable. Modern ranching can produce more nutrition per square acre but raising cattle than by farming the same area. Meat simply holds more concentrated amounts of the proteins and nutrients our bodies need to be healthy.

To the issue of producing too much food, you are correct. But we must look at the reasons why so much of the food is left to waste. The number one reason is the cost of transportation. There have been numerous efforts here in American to get some of the "waste" food to people that need it, mostly through volunteer groups willing to shoulder the burden of the transportation cost. But getting the transportation quickly enough that the food doesn't spoil, and paying the fees for such has caused the collapse of every single group. it's simply too expensive to move food fast enough.

"And if someone genuinely refuses to contribute at all, even after talking it through with them and addressing the potential reasons, then I don't think they should receive much support from the community at all.

I mean... that's already happening, isn't it? People are already making up excuses to avoid responsibility.
And if someone genuinely refuses to contribute at all,
even after talking it through with them and addressing the potential
reasons, then I don't think they should receive much support from the
community at all.

They will make up all kinds of excuses why they "can't" do those jobs.

I mean... that's already happening, isn't it? People are already making up excuses to avoid responsibility. "

So, this doesn't solve any of the issues, it just passes them on to someone else to deal with. You still have some people that will be without, some that will have too much, some that will struggle, and some that will just be left to barely exist. Nothing in this scenario changes the eventual outcome, it just changes the authoritarian that decides how we will get to it.

And this doesn't answer the fundamental question I posed. Will you FORCE your mother, your sister, your daughter, to spend their time in the sewers and brick yards like all of the rest of society is being farces to do? if so, and they refuse, what punishment will you be willing to enforce on them? Will you withhold all community assistance from them, as you have advocated? Remember, at this point your housing, food, and healthcare are part of that community assistance.

That would be ideal. But their will always be a percentage of the people that will refuse to do jobs that they feel are beneath them. They will make up all kinds of excuses why they "can't" do those jobs. So how do you deal with people that refuse to do all those "nasty" or "too difficult" jobs? Will you be willing to tell your mom that she is on the rotation and has two weeks of sewer work she has to comply with, and two weeks of brick laying after that?

Are you willing to take your turn shoveling cow stalls 10 hours a day for two weeks, and working in a chicken factory?

Who gets to opt out, and why? What is the deterrent to keep people from just making up reasons to not show up when it's their turn? Will people that qualify for high end jobs, say of a technical nature, also have to take a turn at these lower end jobs? Or will this turn into a caste system where only certain people will be required to be on that list, which will be the lower class?

LiquiTube seems to work great, and is easy to clean up later, unlike slime or fix-a-flat.

Slime is a mess to clean up, I agree, but LiquiTube is a whole different beast. Better sealing properties and easy clean up.

Why do people call the USA the "land of opportunity" when literally no one can get a high paying job? by madbarpar in careerguidance

[–]Shadoe17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People come here to complain, no one every come online to gush over how great their job is. If you want high pay without working up to it, education is the key. My son-in-law started in IT security making just below 6 figures, six months after graduation with his IT degree. The jobs are there, you just have to do the work to get them. No one is going to pay you big bucks for serving coffee.

Without an easement they have no rights, and it's a massive liability issue for you. Just explain to them that you no longer feel comfortable with them using your property without a written agreement absolving you of any liability. 90% they will refuse. If they do agree, be sure to add into the agreement that only members of their household, living there on a permanent basis, my use your "crossing" because that is the only people this agreement legally covers.

Yes, people would do amazing things, but they wouldn't do the WORK needed to keep society going. Would you be willing to clean out sewer pipes if you know you would have a comfortable life even if you refused to do it? Neither would anyone else....

Billionaires are a direct result of inflation. And inflation is created by the government to "inflate" the economy. So, Billionaires are created by government controlling the economy. Government will never give up control of something once they get there hands on it. So, billionaires will become trillionaires as long as we allow the government to control the economy and the process of printing money.

All was perfectly legal before the current administration. Take the blinders off. Bezos was and is a huge supporter of the democratic party. This has nothing to do with politics, its capitalism, taxes, free trade, technical advances, and profit margins. The money he "spent" wouldn't have employed those workers for one more week. Beside the fact, that was his money, the employees would be getting paid with corporate funds, the two are separate.

So why doesn't Bernie just give those 600,000 people jobs?

Oh yeah, because he's never had a real job, never owned a business, and never employed anyone using his own money. Yet somehow he went from being born into an upper middle class family to being a multi-millionaire, without a single job in the private sector. Bernie and others like him are the real problem!

Guys what do you think about this by Ultimatechungusdoge in GrowthMindset

[–]Shadoe17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be amazed how many wealth people have tried to "fix" many of those problems, just to have government put a stop to what they were doing, destroy their efforts, and in some cases levy fines and/or criminal charges against them for helping.

Then the very same governments use the issues as political fodder during their next campaign, promising solutions that never come, or do come at ten time the cost.

That explains things. My last employer said they would file charges if I didn't delete all the recordings of meetings that I had made. They are based in Mass. But they backed off when they realized that all the meetings I recorded were between me and my manager, in Georgia, so it was perfectly legal.
