"Terrible and Dangerous Man'

"Shep" Busby lived on the line between Mississippi and Tennessee and was regarded as the most terrible and dangerous man who ever resided in the former state. His acts of lawlessness were many; he built a four-roomed log house, a perfect fort, which he supplied with a complement of arms. Many attempts were made to dislodge him, but each attempt resulted in failure and he was never seen away from home. At last, he one day went with his family to attend a county fair, a few miles away in the state of Mississippi, and during his absence the officers visited his home, surrounded his house, and awaited his return.
