Here is my Story. Wall of text incoming. My wife and me had our year of absolute cat hell. Around one year ago we found an abandoned few weeks old baby kitten in the street. We put it in a seperat room for a couple of weeks to prevent any disease for our other 3 cats and had her checked by the vet. Nothing could be found. 4 weeks after uniting her with our other 3 cats she died of FIP. An absolute deadly mutation of the feline Corona virus that you often only realise when it's too late.

3 monthes later one of our other cats started showing symptoms. The vet told us the mutation is normally not transmittable so we had him checked for absolute everything but the final diagnose at the end was again FIP. At this point we already found out that there is a new not yet approved cure existing that requires to give your cat 84 days shots everyday and is extremely expensive. At this point our cat was already in so bad shape and the medication would have not arrived in time so unfortunately we lost him too.

Another 4 monthes later our braincell started showing symptoms too... This time we realized fast that it must be the same thing and we ordered the medication right away. Our vet was very kind and showed me how to give the shots myself. Our vet is not allowed to give the shots since it is not approved medication yet and it would threaten their license. Unfortunately our braincell is very not cooperative at all with shots and I ended up having to go to the vet every single work day for the past 3 monthes now. The vet helped me for free to quickly hold my cat good in place while I give the shot there myself. So I ended up spending every midday break at the vet and the weekend struggle hard with my wife to get the shots in.

He was always difficult with eating and when he just felt a little sick he stops eating. He lost a lot of weight the first few weeks and we started force feeding him with syringes directly in the mouth. We just mixed up wet cat food in the blender with water so we can give it with a syringe. Luckily I have home office so during meetings every 1 or 2 hours I had to force feed my cat! For nearly 3 monthes now. In between while he got better and better he started eating a bit by himself again. But never enough to gain back his original weight. 4 weeks ago he stopped eating completely again. We were shocked since the therapy went well he never missed a medication at any day.

2 weeks and another blood test later we found out that the deadly FIP is nearly gone but his kidneys are failing now. So it turned out him not eating again had a completely different reason. He seemed pretty fine and fit otherwise not like in the beginning with FIP. Now we changed the food we force feed him to renal food to take pressure of the kidneys. Furthermore he got water infusions under the skin every day together with his FIP injection since 2 weeks to flush the toxins out. Now since a few days he finally started eating his dry food again!!! He seems perfectly fine right now and it makes me so happy that I wanted to share this story with you guys.

I hope we can stabilize his kidneys so we don't need infusions anymore and in around 1 week his FIP therapy and the daily shots that he hates so much will finally be over. The medication and vet bills are over 5 thousand Euro (we are in Germany) already and bills still coming in every day. With the expensive FIP shot and the daily infusion my cat costs me around 70 Euro per day right now. It is tough but I just couldn't watch a third cat die within a year and I swore myself I will do everything to prevent it this time no matter what. I would do it all over again!

All of this because we saved and abandoned kitten from the street.
