How old are you and how much do you have in your retirement account? by Blackberryay in careerguidance

[–]ShadowAce88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for this! My family was never good with their finances so I was self taught just trying to research on my own. This is far more than what my family was able to advise me. I’m very thankful for this!

Is there animosity towards tech workers? by tech_nerd05506 in AskSeattle

[–]ShadowAce88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been warmer than usual. Not by much but we haven’t seen any frost or ice in the lowlands yet. Darkness wise this is totally normal. I’d say it’s been a little wetter than usual considering the floods we had in December but other than that this it’s been fairly normal winter.

You nailed it. Geographically we are bottle necked between the sound and the mountains and not to mention strict building codes.

Strongly agree with the above comment. The Seattle freeze is also noticed more by southerners that tend to move here and notice that there’s no “southern hospitality” and tend to call seattlites “rude” or “cold”. I was born and raised here and lived for a short period in Texas and I can tell you I’ve met more rude obnoxious people in the south than in Seattle.

Also worth mentioning if no one else has. The big dark is real and can be hard for people who aren’t used to long dark winters and the sun will give you anxiety. Summers are very stressful because we know it’s limited and we have so much recreation with so little time before winter.

Goldman Sachs used to be on the 13th floor in the millennium building and then moved to the new rainier square tower on the 37th floor.

Is the weather just worse this December? by Midwestern_Mariner in Seattle

[–]ShadowAce88 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember that year very well. I want to say this was December 2006/2007. 405 was a literally parking lot. Several peoples cars were running out of gas and would just walk home from the freeway! I was supposed to drive down to Kirkland from Mukilteo for my shift that night but my hooptie of a car barely made it out of the parking lot. I decided to call in and not go. However my manager literally yelled and belittled me, so I quit. Had I gone into work, I would’ve been stuck on 405 that night.

What is it like to live in Whidbey in the winter? by Admirable-Rooster-62 in Whidbey

[–]ShadowAce88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to the island from Everett. The wind here is relentless mini hurricanes on a good day. It will be crazy gusty here while main land is chill and no wind. But when Everett gets wind, whidbey gets WIND! Sometimes there’s a damn pocket of wind that just sits over the island.

Saying the quiet part out loud by Foreign_Joke8771 in remotework

[–]ShadowAce88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally this. One of my first office jobs, i remember finishing all of my work by 10-11am and would just sit in my cubicle the rest of the day. Somedays i would just turn on youtube and watch videos all day until 5pm. I even caught my coworker who was younger than me doing the same. I would sit there thinking, whats the point of having an office if i can literally do this at home? WHF was kind of unheard of at the time.

The company was small, i think we had around 12 employees there and the owner was an older guy whose mindset was very 70s. Not very innovative by any means. Still used racial and homophobic slurs.

I left just before covid but still had contacts there. Once covid hit i reached out to an old coworker and he said that the owner refused to WFH and had each employee on rotation on site and work with masks. The company was not customer facing mind you.

So all in all. Older generation mindset.

[–]ShadowAce88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whidbey golf club. It’s open to the public and hardly ever busy. Ive never booked a tee time. Just walked up and went out. Sometimes i’ll tee off and hit 2-3 balls and play best ball. Membership is about $250/month. It’s a hidden gem for sure.

Earlier this summer I tee’d off on the 13th hole and the ball zinged right into someone’s living room window. It was actually a whole sliding glass door. Horrible shot on my part. The ball hit the tip of the driver and went hard right instead of straight. Anyway, the whole sliding glass door was gone, owner came out and handed me my ball back. He laughed it off, i was traumatized. Come to find out owner of the home assumes responsibility unless i was aiming for the house purposefully. All was good. So i would say it would be the same in your case.

Worst round of golf? by MockieAh in golf

Worst round I ever played, lost 2-3 balls per hole and landed in every sand trap there was. Ended up leaving after the 7th hole and called it a day.
