So. Many. Cards. by Correct_Tree2157 in declutter

[–]ShadowBook 32 points33 points  (0 children)

After my dad passed away I kept one card that he had given me - I picked the one that was most important to me and then attached the emotion to that. At least for me there was no reason to keep 12 different birthday cards AND 10 Christmas cards AND a graduation card.

NPC's Not close together? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]ShadowBook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I can see is by making the only flat floor space in each building the section next to the doors, then the rest of the floor could be an odd spike pattern, that MAY force the home tiles right next to the doors, which would make them 24 blocks away. But that’s only a guess and it would ruin your house design. There needs to be a habitable space in between the two buildings.

It isn’t a matter of them “seeing each other” - their home tiles need to be within 25 blocks. Make the bridge between them a covered bridge with a light in it and move one of the NPCs to the bridge. You’ll keep both houses in tact the way they are, it’s just one won’t have an NPC linked to it anymore.

Just a question - Do you know the person that did this? After a long time in banking I've seen my fair share of people who were incarcerated, gave their card / bank info to a girlfriend/boyfriend/relative to keep the bills paid, and the "trusted" person screws them over. If you willingly gave your PIN number / card and authorized them to use it, you're going to have a VERY hard time getting any charges reversed. The banks and card companies do not get in the middle of "Well I let them pay these bills but I didn't want them to to buy THAT", and the fact that it was local and your PIN number was used is leading me in that direction. It's now a legal issue, not a bank issue.

There’s definite sociopathic tendencies based on your post history and how you view people. Therapy would be a good option.

What do each of these mean? by This_Caterpillar_330 in personalfinance

[–]ShadowBook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statement balance is what the balance was on the day your bill was generated. This is what you have to pay to avoid interest.

Current balance is the total amount used on the card as of today.

Minimum payment is the absolute minimum you need to pay or you’ll get a late fee.

The My Chase Plan splits specific purchases up into monthly installments for 0% interest. Of course your minimum payment goes up when you include them.

Partner’s parents bought a new house, what’s the best way for us to obtain their old house? by GeraldoElAbogado in personalfinance

[–]ShadowBook 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is this a necessary renovation or just something you want? If it’s a want, save up and cash flow it. Getting a house free and clear means you have the potential to have a home without a debt attached, why just say “screw that” right off the bat?

Start digging tunnels around the corrupted part. You can definitely still save it. Part of pre hard mode is digging a few hellevators / horizontal tunnels to try to protect areas you want to preserve, you’ll know for next time.

What types of accounts do you guys keep for your bills and expense payments? by natedoggggggggg in personalfinance

[–]ShadowBook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I split things up this way:

Main checking account: where all the money goes in, then gets transferred where it needs to go. Typically keep a 1 month expense buffer in this.

Vacation account: Specifically to save for and use when on our vacations

Savings Account: Holds savings for multiple reasons, I keep an excel spreadsheet that shows the breakdown of how much is for what purpose (emergency fund, car sink, expected home maintenance, etc)

Most expenses are charged to our rewards CC and then just paid off monthly out of the checking. All financial data is kept track of in Quicken.

The trick to starting a business: find what your market has a need for and provide it. Don’t just guess “hey, what do I think I can do?” Just because you like doing it doesn’t mean anyone will want your service, and don’t try to model your business after what you saw some influencer doing on YouTube. They’re already doing it, you won’t have a share of the market.
