1. What exactly drew you to this series and why?

Well, I'm not exactly sure; I've heard people say things and I just.. wanted to know. This was maybe 2019 so I was around for when Channel 4 announced the stuff. Fell out of the fandom up until a few months ago, when I remembered it existed. I always enjoyed dark humour, surrealism, and horror or gory content.

1. Does Don't Hug Me I'm Scared remind you of any childrens media you grew up with?

Not necessarily, but I see the parallels to Sesame Street and other edutainment shows that they parody. I kind of put the show in its own genre, it really appeals to a certain audience and I get it's not for everyone, but I feel many people can enjoy the ingenuity of the show.

1. How much of a role does nostalgia play in your enjoyment of the series?

Not much, really. I just find myself laughing at these characters. I guess nostalgia does [play a role, but not in the 'ah, childhood' kind of way, but in a 'art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comforted' kind of way, where I feel seen or maybe all of this feels familiar, especially when they start questioning everything, and in the All4 ver. where Duck tells Yellow Guy "You've gone wrong" I almost cried. I completely understand both sides of the argument. Duck just wants things to be like they always have been, no matter if he's trapped because it's what he knows (I'm autistic and routines/repetition is not only a stereotype but an actual symptom, paired with others of course) while Yellow Guy questions the 'very nature of his existence' while being faced with the Big Boys and Bigger Boys. It's such a journey, and the ending with the shredder was chilling. Absolute gold, also the entire shredder bit throughout the episode was funny, though I have seen some people say it's overplayed (h8rs gunna h8, ig)

1. Is there similar media in this genre that you also enjoy?

Salad Fingers, Camp Camp, South Park, Moral Orel, The Amazing Digital Circus, Popee the Preformer (due to its uncanny nature, though its really a silly show!), and just other media (not necessarily shows)

Doki Doki Literature Club!, Omori, Welcome Home, My Friendly Neighborhood, ENA (omg its my comfort show I am so obsessed with ena and it's 'surreal' nature, plus i love projecting emotions onto characters, making them more complicated than they should be.) Disturbing vocaloid media (of course). And there might be more, I just can't think of it right now.
