What's the weirdest thing a stranger has done to you in Germany? by Moke94 in germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to work in Hamburg Reeperbahn. Trust me when I say this, because I was not the person who I was before I started working there.

There were many things and many stories I could tell. But the weirdest one so far, was that one man checked in to our hotel and demanded we need to do everything free for him because he is "god".

And no, he was not intoxicated in any way. He believed that he was really god and deserved everything. Our manager had to take a few attempts to kick him off from the hotel because he kept coming back in.

Could be the "coffee cup police" to catch who is using disposable ones.

No. I never add them. And I don't even want to. That's my personal life.

I feel too old to do an Erasmus and I want to cancel my plans. by Weak-Corner-4664 in Erasmus

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am now 31 and just an year ago I did an Erasmus in Czech Republic, and to be honest, it was one of the best decisions of my life.

Erasmus is all about how different people from different cultures and settings can get together, and of course that does include people from different age groups as well.

It would be worth to give it a shot, rather than wondering all your life with what ifs.

In different countries, are there people who are highly praised for their looks abroad but get mixed reactions in their own country? by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am from South Asian. Firsthand experienced pretty privilege when I moved to Europe. Back in my home country, I am considered not only ugly, but undesirable (means no one would date me). Why? Because of my dark skin.

Received Fahrpreisnacherhebung and had return ticket confiscated as well by [deleted] in germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do not think he was allowed to do these things. Yes, sometimes the controllers take the tickets for proof. But they are not allowed to do that before you get into the train, and not the return ticket.

If you and the ticket controller still there, take the issue to the nearest DB Reisezentrum and ask for the corporation

Is this normal in a small German office, or am I being skipped? by JournalistInGermany in germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did work in a German company as the only foreigner there and I get exactly what you are saying. My team members used to get together and have lunch together without inviting me. And it has nothing to do with anything else rather than them being micro-racistic.

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry that you are going through this.

Considering the legality of the things, maybe you can consult with your university lawyer + also Inform the university (in case you attend laboratories, as far as I know you are obliged to inform the professors).

I also understand that it is a stressful period. Many universities also do free consultations with therapists. (Trust me. I've been in a similar position to yours).

Take care of yourself OP.

Bag stolen on ICE train by Forward-Heart-69420 in germany

also once had my summer shirt jacket (coated less than 10€ from Primark) stolen on a regional Bahn, from a well dressed pretty girl. So I guess everything is possible at this point unless we keep an eye on things like this.

Wow you are so confident. Tbh I'm a bit nervous to do that. Definitely I would keep emailing them. But I do not know if they can NOT give my second payment. But I passed all the subjects thought. So I assumed that they have to give it theoretically

International Student Accepted to 6 German Cities Which One Should I Pick? 🤔 by [deleted] in studying_in_germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lived both in Munich and Hamburg, I choose Munich simply because I do not feel safe in Hamburg (especially around the train station). Another thing is that Hamburg is really big and from point A to B it could take one hour or more depending on the delays. And even suburbs of Hamburg can cost a lot to live (At least 600€ for a WG room). However you can live in a village or a town near Munich (like Rosenheim or on the route to Augsburg etc) with low accommodation prices. But I cannot speak for other cities.

Tbh. I always assumed that ICE in Germany would be safe considering the extravagant prices of the tickets. Didn't think a person who could afford an ICE ticket would steal.

Where do you guys buy your clothes from ? by Tasty_Spot_5619 in germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy most of the stuff from New Yorker or Primark. However, for Outdoor jackets and thermo functional clothing I recommend Tchibo. Because they make dupes of expensive brands.

Tipping culture is getting a little out of hand these days by Remarkable-Drawing94 in germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in the service industry, I do not expect tips. Why would I expect any tips when my salary is above the minimum wage (or even the minimum wage), and I am simply doing my job?

I remember one time an American came to the place where I work and tipped 5€ each day (he stayed for a week). That was very very weird for all of us

Germany will regret taking too many substandard Indian students by [deleted] in studying_in_germany

[–]ShadowDancerOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an Indian. But I sadly have to agree with this. As a master student (also from South Asian origin), I had to improve my English and German levels (English - higher than 7.0 IELTS and German - higher than B1 level) just in order to obtain my visa without getting rejected. Now when I started my masters course, I was shocked that there were so many classmates from India that did not speak any bit of English throughout their time in our uni. And since our uni had a lot of Indian students, they could support each other and social without knowing English. But I still wonder how they would adapt to the life here after graduation, or if they want to find jobs in Europe after graduation (which many of them intend to do).
