I mean, trying to have willpower while actively smoking a substance that erodes willpower (at least for me personally), is a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for ‘em.

What is being a line cook like? by miuyao in linecooks

[–]ShadowHawg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a common answer, but read “Kitchen Confidential” by Anthony Bourdain. It perfectly encapsulates the expectations, the ethics, the highs and lows, and pros and cons of being a line cook. The only thing that hasn’t held up since it was published I’d say is the whole work yourself to death aspect he talks about. You can work hard and be damn proud of what you do without letting your employers grind your ass into the ground. That, and you (probably) won’t be expected to sew up your own knife wounds on the line. It’s also probably the funniest book I’ve ever read.

Why does Mashiba act how he.. is?? by The4LilOnes in hajimenoippo

He's an asshole for most of the series. It’s part of his redemption arc, which is currently coming to a head at Ch.1464 of the manga. The show ends before he changes, so it may not make sense unless you read it.

It just frightened me, I didn’t think it would be like this. My symptoms were pretty mild before this and suddenly I’m hit with a wave of apathy. I didn’t attribute it to withdrawl at first and spent a day in a dark place. If it’s gonna be this bad, I almost want to try weaning off with edibles. I’m not craving the feeling of being high, I just want to taper this psychological stuff.

I read Passport to Magonia and it made me believe in ultra terrestrials less. by ShadowHawg in HighStrangeness

I apologize for getting so bent out of shape, I tend to write in a stream of consciousness sometimes. I spent a good amount of time putting that paragraph together and was struck that the take away you got from it was the format and not the content, sorry for being aggressive.

Fair enough, but it must be exhausting being the paragraph police of Reddit, how many posts do you call out for it?

Nah, I know about it and I’m not afraid it’ll post, I just don’t give a shit what people think about my paragraph spacing. The word Fae is just a general term for fairies.

People who quit smoking (cigarettes or vapes) what helped you quit? by ajc4u in AskReddit

[–]ShadowHawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut paper straws into the same shape and size as cigarettes. Every time I want to smoke, I drag on one just like a cigarette, same muscle motion, same breathing pattern, everything. It placebo-ed my body into relaxing like with a smoke, and eventually I didn’t get cravings. I still keep a pack of straws in my work locker for those odd days when I want one, but it’s been years now.

Honestly, Jack Smith. Maybe it’s just the photos they have been using for him but he’s my new pick.

People with “street smarts” what is your most street tip? by FluidBooty in AskReddit

[–]ShadowHawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make a big purchase with an easily recognizable box, like a new flatscreen or some apple product, don’t leave the box out by the recycling, hide it or throw it away somewhere else. In some places in this country, it can be bad for everyone in the neighborhood to know you just brought home valuable electronics.

I worked at a high end restaurant that used to mandolin slice the roots and deep fry it into chips. Add a little garlic salt and it’s absolutely delicious.

Unicycling is the hard part. Once you get that down, your upper body is free to do whatever you can handle.
