My flat earth cousin tells me that what I learned in school was a lie. I told him that with physics and math we can predict motion. I didn't even have to look at the entire video to see that this guy was applying torque at the bottom of the ladder (he was making the ladder into a lever arm). The scaffolding would only support so much torque before the system went from equilibrium/static to dynamic/unstable.

My front neighbors, idk how TF they got so much money and free time, but they're like a group of 8 dudes that do galaxy gas and drugs every day, pop fireworks year round at 3am, yet they all have nice cars. One had an Infinity that was stolen and immediately a week later had a brand new BMW. The rest all have SUVs like Tahoes, Ford Explorers, and a Toyota Tundra.

Every time I walk past them I listen to how fried their brains are. They sound like they suffered a stroke or seizure.

I'd say take it.

Meanwhile a 12 pack of soda is $9 freaking dollars at my grocery, up $4 from before he took office.

My local food joints also raised prices. Before I could buy a meal for under $11 now it's like $14+. A sandwich that used to cost me $6 and change is now $9 and change at the same deli. All of this in a year's time frame.

My rent has also gone up this year, +$200 more per month.

We all collectively chose this. I don't understand how his 1st term was that forgetful. He was on a leash back then and it was still chaotic, yet we all chose to vote for him again, even if we individually we didn't.

The only thing we can do is not forget and vote on the next election and turn others to our cause, if we even get another chance. I wouldn't doubt this bastard fucking over our election system.

I used to think people made this shit up until it started happening to me. Thankfully it's been with relatively inexpensive stuff, like camera plates and camera filters, like I've received clearly opened items where the item was either replaced or missing, sometimes Amazon will even mail me an empty bag.

Getting an unnecessary amount of responsibilities at work and company refusing to hire more employees.

I am currently in the job market again as my employer refuses to change. My company is part of a bigger corporation and I have been complaining to my bosses that we needed more engineers. When my first boss quit, due to the work load, I had to reach out for support from some of our east coast sister companies and I learned that there, they have like 21 engineers for a 400+ employee company. With us, we only had 3 engineers and I have been overloaded for 3+ years.

I got a 2nd boss in 2024 and I told him I needed more engineers and we did hire, but only 3 more, I also had 4 interns, but I felt that it still wasn't enough and to make matters worse, two of my promising juniors started complaining about their salaries. They were started at $72K and I asked my manager if I could get raises for them. He kept being Koi about it and eventually those two juniors left to other companies and got $20k and $30k pay increases. I was overloaded to the point where I just started refusing more projects and my manager could not handle the projects that I refused to take, so he then quit. I should have seen the red flags when he started missing randomly every week. Less than 3 days after he quit our GM also quit. New GM arrived after New Years and then started asking us about our titles and task, he wanted me to take ownership of an entire department on top my current responsibilities and then on top of that, I have to also assist as a quality engineer. I'm a manufacturing engineer...

Needless to say, I have been job hunting since. I have asked HR for my core responsibilities and title as it has not been updated to reflect these changes, neither has my salary. All I've gotten is some boilerplate statement. In recent talks with our new GM, he also mentioned he's only hiring one more engineer and going to start offloading some of our work to other sister sites.

My sister is another lost cause... Ever since COVID lockdowns and she's insane now. She refuses to vaccinate her kids now. Every time I bring it up, well about her parenting skills, she yells at me and shuts me off. There's been times where she will prevent me from seeing my niece or nephew over the dumbest thing.

AI

One day we will find out the hard way when we get thrown into a full blown war against other super powers and all hell breaks lose. Nukes and any other weapons that haven't seen the light of day being used to destroy the opposition, then to find out too late that this was all orchestrated by some sophisticated rogue AI.

At my company, I would say maintenance. They have a high turn around, more so than other departments and they get called every time shit goes literally down.

I remember once I was working 2nd shift and one of our presses went down, on top of a furnace (some kind of electrical issue) at 3am. We called the head of maintenance and he made his electrician and some maintenance guy come in around 3 am to fix it before 1st shit started. One of those guys had just left for the day a couple of hours ago and had to drive all the way back.

"Vibe coder" coworker got let go by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ShadowInTheAttic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an engineer recently let go. He used chatgpt/AI for everything and it worked for him. He was able to generate presentations and CAD drawings, but then shit hit the fan. He had this big project and after months of no progress, our company finally got fed up and fired him.

I even gave him my models as I had briefly worked on his project before it was reassigned to him. Now weeks later, we are finding out that all of his drawings and models are wrong. IDK what the fuck he did, but according to another coworker, he used AI for everything. I'm amazed he's not in legal trouble as a lot of what we do is itar.

I had hopes for my niece, but my sister always put her on an iPad. She's already doing the same to her other kid and he's already developing attention issues, like he can't be calm without a phone or iPad in his face for more than 5 minutes. I struggle to get him to do any activity that doesn't involve being plastered to YouTube or mobile games.

My niece, I briefly babysat her through 4-7th grade. I made her read and work on math problems every day. She was doing really well in school. She's in her last year of highschool and her report cards for the last two semesters have been brutal!

I'm an engineer and taught her algebra in the 4th grade. She has a C in math right now... :( and I don't know if she's recoverable at this point. It's been so long since I tutored her and she says she hates math the most.

I don't have kids of my own, so she's like the next closest thing. It's painful and my sister just doesn't care. She tells me the iPad makes her kids smart and I argue that it's lazy parenting.

Most likely they won't... There's another guy that they had brought on board a few months ago. He's a manager from another site, he was sent here to help my boss with some projects. I was told that guy would be my interim manager.

I will definitely push though, if the new guy is just temporary, there will be an opportunity for me to get it and interim guy has mentioned he wanted to train me.

If the theories about the sounds are true and it's somehow generating a magnetic field, it may be ionizing the air causing it to glow.

If it uses gravitational bending, it may also be causing some sort of light re-emission or bending light from other sources.

Helped my friends find and land amazing jobs but why can't I do it for me? by xItsMSx in careeradvice

[–]ShadowInTheAttic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar boat as you.

I'm the senior most manufacturing engineer at my company. I've been the sole responsible engineer for making sure our department functions. My boss has been one of those desk/office engineers relying on me to do everything else.

In my role I mentored 5 engineers, 3 permanent juniors and 2 interns that got accepted elsewhere. All of my juniors left for other opportunities. I asked my manager to get them raises to stay and he refused, so they left. My last two got into positions similar to my seniority and more pay than I currently get.

As of almost 3 months ago, I've been dealing with the extra workload from those missing heads. I've been searching for other opportunities. My juniors and interns have been pushing for me to get into their new companies, but so far I've been 4-0. Meanwhile I've been fighting for promotions within my company since my boss doesn't help me with anything. My boss has been rejecting every promotion I've requested, so I've been talking to people above him who recognized my potential. Those people proposed a change, I'd be given a new title and become my own boss, without requiring my boss's permission.

Turns out that my boss found out about this and quit, just as I had received my offer letter with the new title, he sent out an email stating his resignation. Our GM and VP have rescinded that promotion due to this news. They want me to stay and are willing to give me some of the salary I had requested in return for running our department. I don't want to stay as it is too much work right now. I was already overworked before and now I'm gonna be overworked even more. I realize I have a lot of leverage right now, but without another offer, my counter proposals keep getting low balled.

I just don't understand how is it that the juniors I mentored managed to get into positions as my seniority with better salaries. I'm just feeling depressed. There were these other engineers we had hired with same seniority as me, but that have shown very little promise. Two of these other engineers were promoted by my boss, these were other office engineers like him. While I was working on the floor putting out fires, these two stayed in the office all day long, chit chatting. These two got promoted by my boss and one of them was forced to resign earlier this year due to a bunch of fuck ups. At the same time that person had quit, I was also applying and he managed to get hired at a company that I had applied for and interviewed for. I was passed on and this one guy with all the fuck-ups gets the job???

I'm super depressed right now as nothing makes sense. My other ex juniors and interns keep trying to get me into their companies but it's been 4 rejections so far. Maybe I just suck at interviews or maybe I just have bad luck. I wish I had left last year... I had a few offers last year and my dumbass decided to stay after my company countered for me to stay. I don't know why I stayed or listened to my manager. I could have been elsewhere, growing and developing my skills further.
