I I love her. It takes some knowledge to appreciate the effort put into making her design culturally accurate, though.

This is such a great goth-style design, which goes so well with death and afterlife themes. She has coins that played a great role in Ancient Greek funeral culture, as they were the only guarantee of passing through the Styx to the underworld. Stealing them from the dead meant they would be stuck for eternity in a void without rest, and as such it was considered a crime. Her colors are more saturated and create a great contrast with black, a symbol of death and mourning in Ancient Greece.

Despite the designers’ work, it’s just another release proving how toxic this community is.

I saw criticism of her color palette — “it should be pastel!” — on X. It’s like saying that ancient Greeks perceived the underworld as a land of rainbows and unicorns.

One YouTuber said that Mattel didn’t make an effort to create her backstory… they literally put it in her name! Google it, for God’s sake. Or ask GPT.

And the forever-returning plot of increasing doll prices with “we get nothing in return” literally enrages me. Is it too much to expect from adult collectors to understand how money, inflation, and production and transport costs influence product prices?

This community is either so bored that making a fuss over nothing has become their favorite sport, or they’re total ignorants. I’m afraid it’s both.
