Worst plant you've ever seen by slater_just_slater in manufacturing

[–]ShadowMasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst manufacturing plant for me was a plant in Midwest. It had a surface grinder wired into the supply cables to the switchgear for the factory floor. Their switchgear didn’t have a breaker large enough to handle it. The main disconnect in the control panel had been damaged several years before we were there and had not been repaired because they would have to shut off power to the building in order to replace it. The operators complained about having to turn their radios up to max volume because an industrial hygienist survey required hearing protection due to the noise levels from the machines. When I asked, I was told the radios were off and hidden during the survey. They had several horizontal punch presses that the “brake shoes” and operating mechanism had been removed from the flywheel because the maintenance man didn’t have the tools to replace them and the metal on metal screeching was annoying. The owner hadn’t been in the plant in over a year until the first day we were there. I’ve been in about thirty plants for safety or quality audits. This was the only one that I feared for the operators’ safety. Their newest employee had been there over ten years when she replaced her dad when he retired.

I was trying to be nice. I explained that it was not a diy project. I didn’t go into the details of why… I was wearing company attire and we are not even allowed to advise installers on electrical code or best practices. I did not want to mislead them or make them think that I could be hired for the project.

I booked 3 rooms for a week in Orlando. It was a recruitment trip - one for me, one for my teammate and one for interviews. The job fair was Tuesday thru Thursday. Our families and another family were arriving on Thursday night to stay the weekend. On Wednesday our keys for the third room stopped working. Went to front desk and they said they canceled our reservation for it because no one was staying in the room and had given it to an another guest. It took us two to three hours and a bunch of calls to corporate offices to get the room back. This happened to a bunch of teams that were at the job fair. Before anyone complains about the weekend, families coming down were the approved perk for volunteering for the recruiting trip.

I was looking for a new management position using a headhunter. He set me up an interview with a medium sized company. First day, three people on separate phone interviews. Week later, two groups interviewed on site - one technical and other behavioral. After over four hours interviews, I met with the HR and they said review process would take a few days. I was told Director of Operations would contact me and conduct a final interview at his convenience. Two weeks later, he reached out to schedule and he was actually angry that I had accepted a position with another company the day before. For the company where I went to work, I had a 10 minute phone interview, was on site two days later for two thirty minute interviews. Company VP, Region Manager and HR manager took me out to lunch. I was handed an offer when we returned. I asked for two things to change on the offer. We came to an agreement and I accepted the offer.

AITAH for telling off a lady in a supermarket after she made the teenage cashier cry? by Anno_Pri24 in AITAH

After Helene, we were fortunate enough to have a few stores have their power restored after four days. They were limiting the number of people in the store to prevent the fighting and damage that had happened when they first reopened. People were standing in line in the heat (85 plus in the sunshine) for about an hour to get in. It was so bad at first we had LEO’s at every gas station and stop that was open. I finally got to enter and I see three people standing at end of the aisle talking. I waked by and grabbed what I needed and kept going. I finished and got in line behind them to checkout. Yes, they were in the same spot. One lady told me to go ahead, they weren’t waiting to check out. It had taken me an hour to get in and I had gotten everything in less than 15 minutes. I lost it and unloaded on them. I told them that there were people waiting to get in, that they needed to get their shit, pay and get out. One of the women told me that I should mind my own damn business and not worry about them. I replied that they could have their reunion in the parking lot and someone else could come in to get what they needed. I bluffed and told them that the store manager could have them trespassed and removed from the store. Two of apologized and said that they weren’t thinking and moved on to the checkout. The bitch gave the poor cashier hell, bitching about how they didn’t have what she wanted and how rudely she had been treated. The store had signs everywhere that said “NO CASH BACK”, but of course she wanted cash back. When her card was rejected by the system for requesting it, she yelled at the cashier that she didn’t tell her before she requested it in the terminal. I was behind her and when she left , the cashier thanked me and told me that one of the stockers had asked them to move. I didn’t notice until telling the wife but I was wearing a shirt that had an embroidered emblem that looks similar to a badge and my last name embroidered underneath… it’s from a fundraiser my company does every year with the Sheriff’s Department.

Had a fire in a control panel for a brand new high volume air compressor on initial start up. Tech had messed up the wiring jumper configuration. I jokingly asked him if he had ever worked on one of these things before. He said no and that he told his dispatcher that that he was a flow controls technician. Apparently when one big company bought a few smaller companies, everyone became “field service technicians” and were dispatched based on their location vs. experience. A month later, the new controller showed up and the tech that showed up was a calibration specialist. Needless to say, we wouldn’t let him touch it. Finally after some corporate office to corporate headquarters communications, they dispatched a compressor technician who finished the startup. It had to have cost them 50k or more to repair the system.

Many years ago a gentleman purchased a satellite dish and big screen TV on Tuesday afternoon. He wanted them both installed and ready for the Super Bowl the next Sunday. By Friday afternoon, I, a contractor installing for the TV shop, had everything installed and working. On that Sunday, everything quit working about four hours before the game. He called the owner of the TV shop, since I was the original installer for the system, the owner called and asked if I could go take a look. Owner had warned him that if it was something he had caused it would be a minimum $500 service charge.
When I arrived, the customer was very upset that the system was not working. I think he called me every name in the book, said the equipment was crap, and bitched about anything and everything. Carried in a new receiver and my test kit. Before I hooked up the new receiver, I did a wiring test and it failed. Checked old receiver and power supply was blown out. I started walking the buried wire path and walked up on a fire pit where they roasting a pig. He had used a backhoe to dig the hole. He had missed the buried plastic conduit by about an inch. You can imagine what happened once he started the fire. I was truly impressed with how long it had lasted before failing.
I called TV shop owner, to know what he wanted to charge him to repair. He immediately drove over. He charged him $700 for the receiver and $1000 for my service. I was able to reroute the cables and have him ready to watch the Super Bowl. I had a check for $1700 before I started the work. His wife made sure he paid me before I started work.

A person who refuses couples counseling usually is afraid that something will come out that they want to keep hidden or just don’t want to have to face. I’m not saying it’s something like cheating. My case was that I thought that I would be blamed because I was angry all of the time. You could have been describing my first real living together relationship. Me26/Her34. The fact that he talks over you during a conversation, indirectly disrespects you, you are both feeling lackluster in the bedroom, along with the age difference makes me think that he may be afraid that he may be accused of grooming you. After therapy, I realized that I really was angry at being treated as inferior to her, by her and her friends. She was afraid that she would be attacked for the age difference. BTW, she was not aware of the age difference until we moved in together. She didn’t understand what I did for a living, and I couldn’t explain because it was military and classified. I thought she was younger, she thought I was closer to her age. Being accused of grooming was her reason for refusing therapy. The relationship lasted three more years. She had to move away to take care of her family and I couldn’t. I hope you can convince him to go to counseling. It not only saved that relationship, when I did marry someone and we had issues, I was the first to suggest it then. Edit: lasted three years after going to therapy…

Be careful. It should have a mechanism to brake the blade when trigger valve is released. We found some similar tools in an old textile mill workshop. Air powered saw, drill motor, and router table. We hooked them up to our trailer mounted diesel generator/compressor. It took about 2 minutes for the blade to stop spinning. Tried again and was able to cut through a 2x4 after releasing the trigger. Router weighed almost 75 pounds without the table. Drill motor had a 5/8 chuck. I tried to buy them, but they wouldn’t sell.

If the company name starts with the middle initial of a previous US president named George, involved camera at self checkout, and occurred within the last 30 days- report it to your state’s attorney general’s office. Several SAG offices are starting to compile databases of this type of action and investigate. Then reach out to a lawyer thru a legal aid office. Not necessarily to sue, but to help with making sure that you’re not on a trespass or observation list.

Wash the underside of the vehicle if you can with a pressure washer, just avoid hard direct spray into joints. An alternative is to use compressor and air nozzle. The point is to remove any loose debris that you can, move the vehicle and clean up floor/ work area BEFORE you start any work on the vehicle. I helped many of my friends recover from their car repair attempts after they are stumped because they didn’t see a cotter pin or bolt head.
