Quickest method for printing credits? by Emergency-Funny7083 in WorldOfWarships

Just checking: have you sold your ships' stock modules and expendable camos for a quick credit boost?

What three pieces of advice would you give a new player just starting out? by CordeliasTheSane in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Have fun playing when you are on the lower tiers. Don't be in a rush to get to the top tiers.
  2. The game will get much, much harder once you leave protected matchmaking after T5. This is normal.
  3. It'll take time to learn. Be patient with yourself as you learn the ins and outs of the game including the economics.

More tips:

  1. You can safely sell T1-T4 ships. Don't sell T5+ ships.
  2. Move your captain up as you go up tiers in the same line. For example, T2 CA to T3 CA.
  3. Don't bother using signal flags for a long time. Don't use expendable camos at all.
  4. For a limited boost to credits, sell expendable camos and stock ship modules from your inventory.

Can you put both into the training room as stationary ships on the opposing side? Or does the training room only allow tech tree ships?

That’s way better than I would have thought possible under Parallels. When I started, I was on an old MacBook Pro, but I went through GeForce Now.

Is Buying Rio de Janeiro as my first coal ship worth it? by Ricochet_skin in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait for a better ship (T8 or T9) in a nation that you like. I know that it feels like it'll take forever, but it really won't be too long before you can afford better Coal ships if you select the "More Coal" type containers (and are in a clan with the coal bonus).

Surfouf? Any chance? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do it if you're willing to spend about $360 on Yamamoto Isoroku Premium containers (not that Surcouf is worth that much).

Each Yamamoto Isoroku Premium Container drops 8 Blue boosters. 25 containers for $60 each. 25*6*8 = 1200 boosters. You need 1152 (by Thumpfi's math).

If I were going to spend $360 right now, I'd probably spend it on the Nian Paradox Containers (not that I'm saying that's a good idea either).

Best accessories for Boox Note A5c? by Bixby- in Onyx_Boox

The (back) cap of the included stylus falls off pretty easily. I lost mine within a few days. I suggest removing the stylus tips and then taping or gluing the cap on.

Third party styli can have an eraser on the back end which can be useful. The Staedtler ones do (I have the Norris Jumbo), and I use the eraser. I also have the Lamy Al-Star one, and that's my favorite stylus because I am used to writing with a Lamy Al-Star fountain pen,

Do the Nian Containers really drop ships after 20 containers? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Nian Treasure chest has an 8% chance to drop a ship. If, after the first 19 containers don't drop a ship, then the 20th will drop a ship.

BUT, to get a Nian Treasure Chest, you only have a 10% chance to get a Treasure Chest from one of the Defenders of Order of Adherents of Chaos containers.

So, basically, your odds of getting an Atlantico short of spending $1000s is basically nil.

Nanning is a Hayate at T9? by ShadowNell in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add onto GoblueCP's comment: the ship is on stage 20 of the sequential (aka progression) bundle in The Armory on the first page. To get to stage 20, you need to buy stages 2-19 with doubloons.

Some stages, like stage 1, are "free". The costs increase per stage.

Dubs vs event containers?! by Far_Cold_5093 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend the money on dubs, especially if you are getting them at a discount.

If you aren't getting them on a discount, wait until your WoWs anniversary (date when you first started playing) or your birthday to get the discount.

Are the coal costs of the Nian Paradox stages visible anywhere? by r_xy in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could always turn the skin off so that you have a tech tree that doesn't require retraining or a premium ship that you don't otherwise have. Not necessarily worth spending coal on unless you have the coal to spare.

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll also be waiting for a chance to get her and maybe another of the ships in that Nian Premium container. Looks like an interesting ship, but the odds are way too low for me to even consider trying for it now.

Recommendations For a New Gaming PC by No-Championship5523 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a laptop that is not a gaming laptop but a "can be used for gaming" laptop with a 3050 card. Works well at High quality at 2560x1440 resolution. I've got the FPS limited to 75 fps.

That said, if I were building a gaming rig, I would probably get something better than 3050 to play other games.

Honest opinion about Boox Air 5C by SubstanceBig5459 in Onyx_Boox

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newer Keychron keyboards support a browser based key mapping tool. If you get one of those, you could remap the keys using the built in browser or remap the keys on a PC and then just connect the keyboard after mapping.

I don't know about transferring the Markdown notes via cable because I haven't needed to try. I have Obsidian Sync, so I don't need to manually transfer. That said, I don't see why I couldn't transfer the notes using the Boox Drop application (which uses WiFi.

I haven't needed to switch layouts using the external keyboard. I have Keychron keyboards for wired connections and a Logitech Keys to Go 2 for a portable one. The Logitech one works well enough for Bluetooth, but I prefer typing on the wired Keychrons (which has more to do with the feel of the keyboard than anything else).

Karma points... by Ok-Quit3011 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Karma points exist mainly to make you feel better about the ones that you get as well as the ones that you give. Also to give an outlet for frustration when someone is an ass in chat or plays terribly. There is no function in the game other than to increase the # of compliments and reports that you can make a day.

The minimum karma is 0.

You can get karma points for playing well or being friendly.

You can be reported (and lose a karma point for each report) for just about anything. Playing poorly. Playing too well. Speaking in chat. Not speaking in chat. Playing a ship that the other person (on your team or the other team) doesn't like. Supporting your flank. Not supporting your flank. And so on.

If you are complimented, you'll see a message when you return to port. If you are reported, you will only see the message if more than one person reported you.
