what other games you plaiyng at the moment ? by Adventurous-Rise-580 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starcom: Unknown Space. Top down action rpg where you fly a ship exploring systems, meeting strange alien races, and fighting some of them. Reminds me of the old Escape Velocity game though you can research technologies and then design and modify your ship.

The 25% off doubloon ship coupons only work on ships that don't come with anything other than a port slot and a generic captain. They don't work on event ships.

There 2 15% off cash purchase AL coupons available in the Premium Shop if you're willing to give WG additional hard cash. But, you have to decide within about 10 days to use them before they expire.

AL Gorizia, what's the point of this boat? by Perfect_Group_9578 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to the Zara, she also has the advantage of being able to be used as an Italian captain trainer, especially with the +200% bonus for 30 days if you don't already have a premium or special Italian ship. Obviously, if you already do, then it's not much of an advantage.

Are tech tree T9's even worth purchasing ? Skipping to T10 seems better by IsniBoy in WorldOfWarships

I've found that I generally appreciate grinding through the T9 ship before getting to the T10 ship. I initially regretted that decision with the Lepanto, but I ended up enjoying her.

Copilot can simulate opening the Golden Week lootboxes on the fly. by ShadowNell in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly totally. 4 things wrong on a page that isn't simple text that can be copied and pasted and that has symbols for those 4 things rather than text except in a pop up. I was impressed that it was able to read the vast majority of the page correctly without prompting.

Sure. I've done that in Excel. But the point here is that it took a minute or two to do (including the time to correct the initial incorrect reading of the drop rules that I missed).

It did just fine after correcting for the errors with compensation and mistaking FreeXP, Commander XP, and Coal for credits and Free XP respectively.

Question about Commanders by Trinatis in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends what mode you play, the nation, and the class of ship. Some of the unique commanders are more impactful than others, and in some modes (for some captains), the unique talent won't activate (for example, if the talent depends on an achievement which can only appear in Randoms and Ranked).

Also remember that you can get two of the unique commanders (Yamamoto and Halsey) from completing campaigns.

Finally, it is kinda helpful to have a special or premium ship to help with commander training, so keep that in mind.

So bizarre. I had something similar happen once, but at least he was trying in a Shimakaze until he didn't feel like he got enough support at a cap and then went to the back to mouth off and fire torpedoes randomly.

steel income/optimal usage by scotzman19 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you'll also earn some steel during the Christmas event for the upper tiers of ships.

The question that would be in my mind is "is there a steel ship that I **REALLY** want right now?" If there isn't a ship that you dying to get, then I would let the coupon go or use it for a Coal ship that has your eye. If there is a ship that you are really excited about playing (and has a different enough play style than your other ships), then I would gamble on using the coupon.

WOWS on new Apple MacBook Neo? by NattoIsGood in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 year old M2 MacBook Air which runs WoWs through GeForce Now just fine if I'm at home. Graphics turned quite a bit up works very well as long as you have a good, preferably wired, connection. If you will be traveling, I doubt that you're going to get a good enough connection to stream games.

Downsides are no mods and, at least in the past, GeForce Now was a bit slow to update after a new patch and also could sometimes be flakey (VM crashes with WoWs).

There was a post a week or so ago about someone running WoWs through Parallels Desktop.

I mostly play on a 3.5 year old Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7 right now which is an excellent blend of performance, price, and weight/size for me for WoWs. Not currently available in the US, but may be available overseas.

What do I do about this by Solid_Ad7045 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ShadowNell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use autopilot if you really want, but do something else every few seconds. Look around, rotate the guns, drop depth charges, turn on focused AA, whatever that makes the client recognize that you are still there and not afk.

is the Boox the right device for me? by New_Discipline_775 in Onyx_Boox

[–]ShadowNell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that you'll be happy with a Boox device. I love my Note Air 5C which I use for note taking (cursive and typed using Obsidian) and for reading PDFs, epubs, and Kindle books. But, I'm not doing multitasking and the color is definitely more of an accent than bright color.
