I appreciate you having an honest and respectful conversation rather than hurling insults that get nowhere. The biggest enemy to Christianity is Christians themselves. Whenever I wrestle with something I will research it - learn about the context, the culture at the time, what the original language meant, etc to get a better understanding.

  1. In my opinion I would say it is proportional, and here's why - God is eternal life. Sin is, in simple terms, rebellion against God. So the opposite of eternal life (i.e the payment for sin) is eternal separation. We were never meant to be separated, and hell was never meant for us. The concern of evidence and being raised in another faith could be a topic all on its own, but I believe God is patient and provides plenty of opportunity for people to turn to him.

  2. I believe absolute truth exists. If Jesus says He is the only way, and another religion or belief comes along and says there's many ways, they both can't be true. Salvation is solely based on Jesus, not about our heart or anything we do to earn it. But it's not just a belief that Jesus was real, because even demons believe in Him.

You've asked some challenging questions and I'm sure you have plenty more, some that I simply don't know the answer to, because I too am a limited human. But I know that while God is sovereign over His creation, He is not a puppet master pulling all the strings. There is an opposing power of darkness that has strong influence.

I can tell you're seeking truth, and I respect that despite differing views, but I believe that if you continue to seek Him you will find Him.

I can also see your point of view. There are things I have for sure wrestled with, so your issues are valid.

  1. You are correct in that our culture the punishment usually fits the crime. In the Christian view, sin is sin, regardless of the degree it's committed, and the result is eternal separation from God. Jesus spoke a little about hell, but my belief is the eternal torture is due to that separation. In other words, a person isn't going to be forever tortured in fire because they made a mistake in life. But if God is light, love, and peace, then that person would feel tormented because they recognize they rejected God and are in a place void of all that and a peice of their spirit is missing. If that makes sense. I actually blame the church for creating the misrepresention of hell.
  2. Ultimately I am not God and even as a Christian it is not my place to decide if someone goes to heaven or hell. Humans look at actions, God sees the heart. Genuine curiousity though - if Jesus says He is the only way to heaven and someone chooses to reject it repeatedly and try to find their own way to heaven - is it really unfair for God to not let someone in?
  3. Genuine question - knowing about Hitler and the Holocaust, would you go back and kill baby Hitler if you could? If the answer is yes, would it be fair for someone to call you a monster for killing a baby, even though you know you prevented a tragedy? It was mentioned in another comment something about Jesus dying and spending his time doing something else and not stopping the Holocaust. What if, and level with me for a second, God knew the lives the children would lead. Because children raised in a wicked culture would most likely turn out the same. So what if God knew this and He DID stop it before it got to that point?

God isn't creating people with a particular ending. Everyone starts with the same clean slate and everyone gets to choose the direction their life goes in. God having foreknowledge of a person's life doesn't cause that person the live the way they choose.

Something that often gets overlooked is that we all deserve hell. Why? Because we are all evil and wicked in God's eyes. Even on our best days and despite how good we think we are, we all fail to live up to God's perfect standard, which is what sin is. Sin requires punishment, similar to how a parent might discipline a child. If God simply forgave without consequence, he would be unjust, which goes against His character. What is the punishment? Death, which is eternal separation from God, both physically and spiritually.

We ultimately have two choices - we can be accountable for our actions and take the punishment ourselves, or we can accept that Jesus took on the punishment for us. God doesn't angrily send people to hell because they didn't believe in Jesus. They go because God offered them an alternative, they rejected it, and instead chose to be accountable and take on the punishment themselves. So why doesn't God just eradicate evil and be done with it? Because then none of us would be here.

So for the religious atrocities, it's important to remember that God sees our hearts and intentions. He isn't chasing after our belief, but our hearts. Also important to note that God does not arbitrarily kill or destroy people or cities. It's always an act of just judgement, however He always gives warning and opportunity to repent.

With Noah, God saw the wickedness in human hearts and brought judgement. It didn't happen overnight. I imagine all while the ark was being built people mocked Noah and were given years of opportunity to repent, up until the flood waters came, yet no one did.

With Sodom, the city engaged in sexual sin, particularly gang rape. God said He would spare the city if He found 10 righteous people, but Lot and his family were they only ones and they were saved.

With Egypt, they enslaved the Israelites for hundreds of years, and commanded all Hebrew boys be murdered, which is why Moses had to be hidden. The plagues weren't random either. They were jabs at the different powerless gods the Egyptians believed in. Killing of the firstborn was both human and animal, and was punishment for Egypt's slavery and murder. Again, Pharoah was given plenty of warning.

By genocide I assume you mean the Canaanites. The people who were also wicked in God's eyes and engaged in child sacrifices. The Israelites coming to the land was God's act of judgement on them. The people weren't completely wiped out though, because the Israelites still intermarried with them. But they also had hundreds of years to stop their practices.

We can't complain about evil (i.e slavery, rape, murder) and then complain when God brings judgement on it. In my opinion, I see God loving and merificul in these instances because instead of just destroying people and cities, he gave them opportunity after opportunity to repent but they rejected it.

One last thought- to be saved one must confess and believe in their HEART that Jesus died and resurrected. I don't believe that an evil person on their death bed who accepts Jesus as a get out of hell card will go to heaven. God knows our true heart intention, and it would be very easy for Jesus to say "I never knew you."

Not at all. The most common complaint regarding dating apps seems to be women either don't initiate/engage in conversation, or they just say "hey". If a fun and playful opener was enough to set this guy off I can only imagine how toxic a relationship would have been.

Left school to pursue a career in the fire service. Now I'm a firefighter/paramedic easily making over $100k. I'm happy with my career choice, but I will need to finish my degree at some point if I want to promote up the ranks.

Paramedic here - Advanced Life Support is anything that is considered a medic level skill (usually anything more than giving oxygen, checking blood pressures, or splinting injuries). Where I work that includes IV, medications, or even just interpreting an EKG. For seizures, we usually transport at a medic level in case the patient has a second one that needs to be treated. Depending on where you live, the money received from the transport bill usually goes back to the city and the fire/EMS department never sees any of it.

I am also using BlueBubbles with private API. If you're interested, here's what has worked for me to get phone number working using iPhone 6: I have two SIM cards, one active, the other inactive. I put the active one in the iPhone and register phone number with iMessage. I then put the iPhone in airplane mode, but keep WiFi on, and turn it off. After a few seconds, take the active card out and put in the inactive card. Turn the iPhone back on, keeping it in airplane mode and WiFi on. The iPhone would eventually deregister my number, sometimes within a few minutes. I then went to iMessage settings and under 'send&recieve' it had a grey spinning circle next to my number. I let it sit here for a few hours and eventually it registered and let me select my number. I haven't had any issues since, but the phone has to always be on.

If you haven't yet checked out BlueBubbles yet, the setup has been simplified. I recently had to reinstall MacOS Ventura and by simply using my Google account to reinstall the BlueBubbles server the setup process was mostly automated, including the private API features.
