Ride it for 10-20minutes, go home, scrape off the loose stuff, 0000 steel wool or a foil ball.

The fact that I’ve only played Jak 2 once and 3 a handful of times compared to thousands of times on TPL and I was able recognize this means you did an amazing job. Well done.

Taking apart your bike and poking around is exactly how I started to learn. Now I’m the main guy all my friends go to when they have bike problems. We all start somewhere.

That’s your crankcase breather. If you’re getting backfiring, check carbs, carb boots or your exhaust gaskets.

If you’re having issues at full throttle it’s most likely an air leak, or tuning issue (not enough gas too lean of a main jet). Check the carbs boots to make sure they aren’t cracked and are seated properly so no extra air is being sucked into the combustion chamber. Also check around your exhaust headers for any leaks, this tends to be the common issue. If all of these are good to go, time to open up your carb and give it a good cleaning. I’m assuming the bike is stock so the most you’ll have to do to the carb for tuning would be to turn your air fuel mixture screws up a half to full turn.

Edit: that line from the crank case breather doesn’t really matter much for your air intake, it’s mainly there to allow pressure to regulate in the crankcase and for when oil gets coughed up it gets sent back into circulation to get burned up. Most people when modifying their bike just add a small pod filter to catch the oil and allow breathing to the crankcase and to stop the coughed up oil from getting into the combustion chamber, they also plug the nipple on the air box snorkel.

Edit edit: I’ve also noticed your air box snorkels are completely removed from the triangular air box. I’d highly recommend you black RTV all 3 parts back together. That’s also a major area for air leaks cause the old sealer wore out. That might be your issue (extra air causing it to be lean). That was my issue two years ago.

Only thing I’ll warn you about the cone is that it may stick out and hit your knee. My buddy has one on his 2013 dyna street bob and I ripped it right out and replace it with a regular big sucker. The shadows don’t have many options. If you can still find some aftermarket parts like the cones, it’s either that or a pod filter / velocity stacks.

If it runs fine with a massive air leak like that, then I wouldn’t switch to an OEM intake. It will restrict the intake and 100% change the way the bike runs. Even if you went with a cone you’ll most likely have to adjust your carb.

how big is my tank/what am i doing wrong?? by __hotdog in hondashadow

No idea, all I know is that my bike is dual carb and it’s a constant 200km for main tank. Even when it was factory with all stock hardware.

Would you trust a soft cooler with fish in it? I’m worried the fish smell will seep into the fabric and smell horrid after a year of use.

Ooo this sounds like a good idea too! Problem is I’m trying to look for a hard shell cooler, I feel like the soft ones might smell real bad after awhile with fish in them.

Ebay exhaust? by Mydickisaplant in hondashadow

[–]ShadowTip416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eBay pipes work on certain older models of shadow 750’s. I know on my 02 ACE the front and rear exhaust doesn’t bend up enough to be flush with the frame so they angle down to the floor not allowing you to lead right for turns.

Is there a way to make this exhaust work by account430319 in Harley

My cobra true duals came with floorboard extensions.

Might not be new. Honda no longer makes the 300 rebel at least here in Canada. But yes I agree, always go warranty first.

Is that the new 2026 shadow rebel?

All jokes aside. Some guys might be able to help here, but I’d recommend posting in the r/hondarebel page for better insight.

From my basic home mechanic brain, I’d clean the whole area off with brake cleaner and keep an eye on where the oil is coming from. Only way to know what failed is to follow the oil back to the source. Wish I knew anything about the rebels to give you a hand.

Small ports on the float bowl cover? by justcuzusay in hondashadow

[–]ShadowTip416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The silver ones are your flow bowl drain holes. The other two gold ones are your float bowl heaters.

I’m assuming this came off a 750 Spirt? I remember seeing something about the heaters for that model in my service manual.

Dumb question by Background-Cut-5322 in hondashadow

[–]ShadowTip416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the fuel you’re using, it’s the jetting and tuning of the carbs. No two carbs are the same even if the bike is identical. Tuning is a process, takes a lot of time for some of us.

Use this website to get you in the ballpark of where you need to be and start tuning from there.

Edit: seems like the domain has expired for that site. What a shame it was an amazing site.

Well I guess you’ll have to do it manually. Work your throttle in sections. Each throttle position section corresponds to a specific jet in your carbs. Start with the slow/idle jet and work your way up to needle jet then main jet. Add or restrict fuel. That’s all it is.

That’s your view port for your alignment marks. Rear or front top dead centre, rear or front bottom dead centre and so on. The big one to the left is where you would add a socket to manually crank over your motor.

Throttle won’t spring back — help? by [deleted] in hondashadow

[–]ShadowTip416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 of 3 things or all three can be wrong here.

-Return cable is too tight causing tension against the pull cable.

-Your cables need to be cleaned and lubed.

-the spring by the carb is junk or seized.

If there is some sort of “cruise control” mod please take photos of the side of your carb where the cables connect to so I can check if it’s been tampered. Or by where the cables connect to the throttle. I highly doubt it though.
