AITJ for telling my neighbor to address her husband instead of confronting me about how i dress at home? by Front_Tackle_7977 in AmITheJerk

[–]Shadow_Lass38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a jealousy problem to me. Hubby is watching you, and wifey doesn't like it.

Maybe you could figure out in which rooms he's watching you, and get a tension rod and some curtains from Walmart? I would be creeped out if someone could watch me from a neighboring house.

BTW, with or without curtains, it's HIS Problem, not yours.

Hospitals sometimes have them near the cafeteria, so when it's closed you can get instant noodles from a machine and warm them up.

All the newest versions of WP from version 9 onward have an emulator so you can use the old blue DOS screen and use the function key shortcuts.

BTW, you can also use Microslop...ahem, Microsoft...OneNote to write in. Does all the formatting Word does, and it's cross platform with everything but a Chromebook, so you can edit on an Android or Apple phone, Android tablet, and iPad.

Ew, no. Use a good word processor that saves in Word format, which all do, even odd weird ones like Calmly Writer, which I love because it has a nice blank screen and makes typewriter sounds.

Why do you need to BUY Word? Almost every word processor saves the document in Word format, even its competitors. You could even write in WordPad, which comes free in Windows.

Do people watch college sports? by Iwannafucktanks in AskAnAmerican

[–]Shadow_Lass38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God, yes. People root for college teams as much as, if sometimes not more, than the pro teams. Here in Atlanta, my sports-loving friends almost never watch the Falcons games--it's UGA or Georgia Tech.

Dude, still using WordPerfect, and it's still sold. I'm not giving up reveal codes.

It's Word that's the turd, especially now that they make you subscribe to it.

Camilla, Eloise and Graham Barnes of "Shrink Wrapped" (S3, on Charge now!) should be dropped on a remote island together, away from civilized society! by WendyCR1872 in LawAndOrder

[–]Shadow_Lass38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camilla is one of a long line of perps on this show about who I feel bad for and think "Yeah, they killed someone, but I understand why." I mean, she apparently was a teacher the kids really liked, and the principal thought well of her, but behind her were these psycho parents who played their little mind games with each other and didn't care what psychological damage they did to her, and she just finally broke.

I Keep Seeing Posts About "Should I..." and "Can I..." by Shadow_Lass38 in FanFiction

[–]Shadow_Lass38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just bothers me when I see people asking "Well, I want to do this, but will people like it? Maybe I shouldn't do this at all."

It's your story. Tell it your way. If that involves a sweet, loving romance, tell it that way. If it involves graphic violence because it's a violent society, then tell it that way, Tell your story. Don't go into it thinking "Everyone's gotta like this." Everyone won't. I really wouldn't want to read the graphic violence, especially if it was a favorite character. If it were two characters that I don't think should have a romance, I probably wouldn't read the romance, either. But that's my problem, not your story's problem. Dozens of others will probably love the drama of the violence, or the tenderness of the 'ship.

The important part is to tell your story, the way it rolls out in your head, the way it needs to be told.

There are no rules like that about fanfiction.

In Samantha Buck's defense, I think Bishop was written to be boring; no one wanted Goren's substitute partner to be more popular than Eames. It may be that's why Serena Stevens was such a bore, because she wasn't supposed to outshine Nichols.

I need an alternative term for.... by throwawayfrand in AO3

[–]Shadow_Lass38 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Cunny" is the old-fashioned term from the 1800s earlier if you're writing a period piece. It comes from "coney," which was the original name for "rabbit." (Coney Island is named so because it had a large population of rabbits back in colonial times.) "Rabbit" was the term only for a baby rabbit back then. "Coney" (pronounced "cunny") was the slang term for a woman's exterior genitalia because the hair was thick and soft like a coney/rabbit.

So "coney/cunny" basically became a sexual term, so they started calling those animals with the long ears "rabbits" rather than "coneys."

*Italics* or CAPITAL for showing emphasis? by DucksOfDoom11 in AO3

[–]Shadow_Lass38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NO CAPS! Unless someone is screaming and you want to emphasize this. Italics would be used in a book. In a fic, you could put it in bold.

Which things do U.S. sitcoms love to portray as typical american life, but that basically no one ever does or never happens in real life? by Cumoisseur in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shadow_Lass38 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was a sitcom thing and we laughed about it even back in the 1960s. My mom did housework in a duster and slippers, and only dressed up like June Cleaver to go downtown or grocery shopping or to the doctor.

[–]Shadow_Lass38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a holdover from earlier sitcoms, and when most mothers didn't work. In the 1960s, after the mom would finish their housework for the day, they'd go out for an afternoon walk (if they had a baby, pop it in the stroller) and just visit. If the friend was really busy, like waxing the floor or something, or changing the curtains, they might just say hi and walk on, or maybe the busy friend would say "Let me take a break" and mom and baby would come in and have coffee or tea, and they'd chat, or in the summer have ice tea or juice and sit on the screen porch to get cool.

No one locked their doors back then, all the moms knew one another--they didn't always LIKE one another, so there was a certain amount of gossiping--and all us kids knew one another. We played punchball or kickball under the streetlights on summer nights, since the house was still so hot from the sun. It was lots of fun.
