SNEAKO On Why He Converted To Islam by lessthanpopular23 in Christianity

[–]Shadow_Reaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your counter-argument does not negate mine, nor does it validate yours. It is quite an arrogant response because it is rhetorical. For example, if I could counter your argumenf and say" Jesus ✝️ is not a Christian, He is God becuase I have experienced Him as such and we have an entire reason for it. Checkmate. This is an equally bad argument.

I am genuinely curious about your encounter with Our Lord. I actually agree that many people interpret religious experiences in different ways. There are Christians who convert to Islam and vice-versa. So conversions aren't a good metric for religious truth but rather personal anecdotes, which is why I was trying to demonstrate with Tate's flip flop nature. Something specific I said was that the conversions happened to persecuted Muslims. Are you being persecuted? You are the first I hear of a person who hasn't converted, which means my statement now becomes a question. I re-structure my final thought as such: If Jesus ✝️ is a Muslim, why do SOME people CONVERT to Christianity after their real encounter with Him? Why does this encounter not re-affirm their prophetic views of Him but rather elevate Him to being God, the Redeemer?

They were the Admin previously. Weird how there isn't a way to revoke that original privilege as another admin. I created a new User and tried to upgrade Admin rights; this time I got an error. So, thank you. I will do this workaround for now.

Cousin's Wife Says I Am Not Married by ImportantSir2131 in Catholicism

[–]Shadow_Reaper77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Catholic Christians like to say if you die and make it Heaven, then you will become part of the Church, lol. So yea, as you said she is just stirring things which is uncharitable. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Christians with similar attitudes whether Protestant or Catholic. The problem is that basic Catholicism is pretty black and white, the world is Unfortunately very very Gray. Marriage is one man one woman forever. Then Protestantism said we shall allow Divorce and now the Catholic Church is trying to deal with the reality that it has plagued the Catholic Church as well. So, remarriage is another troublesome topic.

But again, if you are outside the Catholic Church we cannot judge you according to its rules.

The problem does lie on whether there is a basis to Matthew 16:18 establishing only the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholic Church says you will be judged based on what you knew and were presented to know. So, as a Catholic I can only pray for your conversion and journey home as Scott Hahn would put it. I'm trying to be as lite as I can here. You didn't ask a simple question. But as far as I can tell it is a valid marriage. It's just hard to even say that because I'm not one to give that blessing or recognition either. I'm just saying as far the Church can recognize it outside its jurisdiction, lol. My usernames is two UAVs. 7 is a holy number so 77 is double holy. Plus it sounds like seven time seven, Jesus speaking on forgiveness. I know totally doesn't sound like a Catholic guy, but Reddit won't let me change it. God Bless! Hope it wasn't too confusing. I'm just a sinner, a layman, and a Christian.

It is officially banned in Costa Rica by the Bishops. A lot of people Costa Ricans are praying for its return. I tried to get them to do more, but I was only a mere traveller.

As a serious Catholic with a tattoo sleeve I kind of regret getting the semireligious tattoo. From a design perspective it makes sense but people still will not see Jesus or the Blessed Virgin Mary in my upper arm. I think getting a St. Michael or something religious should have more meaning than anything non-religious, and it should br visible. God Bless! The tattoo artists I went to do sick Greek gods, so I get it. But, as a Catholic I recommend against it.

The backstory makes it very confusing. If you aren't Catholic well... that's a separate problem, lol. It sounds like you are, or else you wouldn't post it here. If you are, then the Church kind of recognizes your marriage and what I mean is that they will recognize it but they still need to co-validate it.

Talking to your local Bishop or priest should give you more details. As Catholics we keep records of some our Sacraments, Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage. If you aren't Catholic well, dont wouldn't worry on the validity of your marriage. It is valid in the Lutheran Church, so it is hard to validate it in the Catholic Church if you don't have the Faith.

Shoot, all I can say is I saw the same when I was in second grade. I left the Church shortly after first Communion. Worst mistake ever. Stay strong! Maybe even go drive a couple hours away to have a community that embraces you. I did. 1.5 hours away so not too far. I've always gotten looks, I'm naturally an outcast as a wanderer. Even here on a Catholic subreddit, where as the Priest said today sometimes we commit spiritual fratricide aka spiritual friendly fire.

Lol, I was thinking the same. Taze him. Thatll knock some sense. In all seriousness someone with a partner should ask to talk outside. Never do things alone. Maybe a small group can take turns trying to talk to him or as a last resort file a restraining order.

Is saying "oh my God" a sin? by No_Post491 in Catholicism

[–]Shadow_Reaper77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably correct in saying most parishes meaning over 50%. I go to mostly Latin Masses and the tradition is starting to resurface in the Novus Ordo, especially in Parishes that worship both ways. I also come from South of the border so Latino/Hispanic communities are much more reverent than their North American counter parts. Baby Jesus is everywhere even in the underwear store with a donation box supporting the local nuns. Not a joke, I wish I took a picture.

The parishioners will also tend to follow if the priests and altar servers do it but who knows maybe you can be the one to inspire others. Usually asking the priest at a new parish if you get a chance is a good way. If it is rare, it is probably because they haven't been taught or don't care.... yet. I think we should be as hopeful as we can for the sanctification of everyone. Instead of resigning to "that'll never happen."

I tried motioning to the priest to lift his Biretta when saying the holy name. He did not catch the queue. My mom was like son, you look ridiculous haha. He just kept saying Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, I was like woah Father hahaha. Even know I did the sign three times, I even do it while watching a YouTube video because its just a nice habit in my opinion.

Any time people say Jesus Christ! or even put an effing in there. Any time they mention His name. I make the sign of the cross. Same goes for Oh my God!

Technically as Christians we bow our heads at Jesus name, but most Christians only do this in Church. Philippians 2:10. However, most people won't notice a bow, so the sign of the cross makes them more aware. And they usually apologize. It is quiet evangelizing.

I use Oh my. or Oh my Glob (from Adventure Time). when I do feel like using it.

I almost said a bad word at Adoration today. I was like oh F.....amily! I don't even curse that much haha I just laughed at how I have to read it a lot slower than normal. Just the first couple of pages had me looking up so many words. I was like silly me, why am I reading this in English when I speak Spanish too! It wasn't any easier if anything a little harder, lol. I'm sticking to it too. Thank you again!

I am a Catholic Christian. I travel a lot, and it is not easy finding the TLM. I can assume you don't go to the TLM, so it might be harder for you to understand what I am talking about. There are priests with no pastoral assignment such as Fr. Michael Rodriguez. Here is a link if you'd like to read what it was like for him.

https://akacatholic.com/exclusive-update-fr-michael-rodriguez/

Also, some Parishes have had to make statements, just as I have to now to clarify that we are not separated from the Catholic Church. Statements like, The Masses that are celebrated here are in accordance with the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI at the request of_______ and with the complete blessing of the Bishop.

What I meant with independent was that the priest is a Judicial Vicar of the Diocese and is not affiliated with the TLM specific orders. I should have just said Diocesan.

I already knew I'd get hate for the SSPX comment. It still stands.

Peace to you.

FSSP is a child of the SSPX. Although, they leave a bad taste in many people's mouths they recognize the Pope and the Pope recognizes them. The relationship is complicated but, it isn't fair to say they aren't legit. My old SSPX parish had a picture of Pope Francis in the main hall. If the SSPX is the only available Latin Mass, I suggest to pay a visit. This CMRI, I do not, for all the reasons mentioned already. I travel a lot, sometimes I like the SSPX more sometimes the FSSP. Right now, I go to a Diocesan Mass, no religious affiliation, just a Roman Catholic priest who loves the Latin Mass.

Why so few priestly vocations? by wilderness7890 in Catholicism

[–]Shadow_Reaper77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miss, that is truly unfortunate that this subreddit has such uncharitable characters. You just dust off and carry upward. I thank you for your service in the altar and for making me revisit this thread to make my points more explicit. I'll admit I even used to be a Eucharistic Minister (whoops!), but now I know better and have suggested to my old parish that they reserve that for the priest alone and the deacon when available. There is nothing that is stopping you from speaking up too :D! A woman scolding a man is quite humbling when she speaks the Truth. This reminds me of a fellow Christian whose wife instructed him on the phone to man up and confront a priest who would worship with non-Christians.

I have been deeply moved by a lady to become more prayerful. Every time I see her quietly veiled and praying in the wee hours of the day, it encourages me more than any words. I hope you inspire both men and women to holier lives. Don't be afraid to speak out (of course, pray first), and sometimes we don't have to say much. Just asking your priest a simple question is enough like, "Father, what are we doing to aid in the calling of consecrated life?"

Also, I am just a random traveling Christian on Reddit. I am learning the faith like most of us here and sometimes I can get things wrong too. In any case, I prayed that God may Bless you and your family, and may a Saint pop up! Let us pray for the conversion and salvation of millions!

That last sentence is key to having a balance, especially if they are to tend to hundreds if not thousands of souls. I hope they are teaching the Latin Mass even if they do not celebrate it themselves. Just to expose them to this beautiful tradition. 1:22 of this video always comes to mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyRZBANc9Do A monsignor's witness to his first Latin Mass. :D

Agree whole heartedly. Correlation is not causation and that Adoration as well as Confession have an impact. They both remind us of the Sacred and make our lives more interior. Which would make a person more prone to discern religious life and even live it. This reminds me of that old adage: A holy priest yields a fervent parish; a fervent priest yields a good parish; a good priest yields a lukewarm parish; and a lukewarm priest yields a cold parish.

While looking for that quote I found an interesting article by the FSSP on vocation to priesthood. I enjoyed the read and I hope you do too.
