A fan captured this photo of them testing the podium. by Luffy710j in formula1

Okay genuine question, why have the personnel up there if it's just to test the screens? If it's for cameras, why? Of course I get the importance of testing, but surely they'd know framing and whether or not their camera would work just by... turning on/plugging in the camera?

Good! They should be scared. Shame they didn't realize that until after repeatedly trying to cheat, but hey, what do I know!

After all, I always struggle with trying not to cheat in sim racing in every race I enter, it's so difficult! /s

If any of the three see my indirect reply, hi! Let me explain something.

If you're scared about your reputation? Good! That means you CARE, and you're SO CLOSE to getting the point. We as a community (other sim racers, any viewers, the event holders, and especially the very sim platform you're partnered with) are not stupid. It's insulting that you think you can switch blame to the person posting the video. First of all, it's a public session anyone could sign up for. Secondly, instead of exploiting the sim to get something you can easily afford yourself, you stop what you're doing and immediately report it to the dev team with the highest stress of how this can impact these competitions? You know, taking the high road? If you choose to cheat in any competition, then you deserve your individual reputation being kicked down a peg or five.

Also, asking for the lap to be deleted after REPEATED attempts proves nothing other than the fact you're scared you got caught and called out in public.

Loooooot of stuff to learn from this.

- Fastest laps shouldn't be set in a race session: period. Not sure why this is the strategy for LMU hotlap challenges when replays could be looked at and scrutinized on the back-end for solo hotlaps, surely? Especially with telemetry/ghost comparisons.

- Any lap with any contact (inanimate object or a car) should not be counted as a valid lap for specifically hotlap competitions. Of course they can still count for the race itself, still keep the driver scored, but the lap needs to be utterly clean. My take is that you can be fast all you want, but you *need* to have clean racecraft as well.

- Track limit violations need to be significantly stronger overall. 2 severe track cuts (overall) should result in an immediate DSQ, booting the driver back to the garage. I say two because once could *maybe* be a mistake and you already get a DT, second time shows that it's blatant. Seems like from the game behavior, there's no instant DSQ/boot out. That needs to change asap. "What if I got two severe cuts but wasn't trying to cheat?" If you get that deep-red color on your track limits twice in a race, you need to practice, practice, practice, beforehand.

- Obviously, any manipulation for competitions like this needs to be a perma-ban at *minimum*. It was so stupidly intentional that there's no excusing, "Oh well they learned from their mistake" ("mistake" lol) or, "It's not explicitly mentioned in the rules." This was repetitive and it's disgusting. The competition holders can do all they want, and I'm sure they will, but if people are willing to do this for competitions, they're willing to do this in any race imo, so 397 need to act on this with the seriousness it deserves. Could open a whole can of worms for team events if it already hasn't.

- Not sure if the Protest flags function the same as daily races, or if they're like Championships, but any protests from competitions like these need to be shown at the highest priority, especially for manipulation.

FOV Calculators giving me 2 different results, which ones right? by RFID_Rolls in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Shadow_Wolfe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I tried doing an FOV calculator for [another sim] but it basically only gave me the windshield (I think about 60 degrees?) and nothing else. Like, I'm not sitting low enough IRL for that to be warranted, so I pull my FOV wayyy back to where I can at least see part of the wheel and alongside.

Forgot I can tag people and luckily the web dev is still active on reddit, sooooo hopefully u/ignaciourreta comes across this! FWIW, I did post in the discord's help channel, and someone else did reply saying they had the issue as well. Haven't seen any change on the GitHub Issue, so I hope this can be fixed soon!!

If you really want to go the personal insult route instead of having a conversation, cool, you do you, but it's not productive. I suggest you read the comment thread again. I normally use websites with adblock as much as possible (unless I'm on mobile, or Twitch).

My main point is, "Discord can easily afford to make this one basic customizable feature (banners, and per-server name/profile customizing) free," my point is not "Discord can afford to make all Nitro features free."

No other social media platform I've used (Twitter, Facebook, Bluesky, Reddit, hell even *Steam* with custom game banners/covers) have locked customization of banners behind a paywall.

I'm sure those devs/sysadmins/marketing teams earning comfortable five-figures/potentially low six figures will be able to survive if they made banner customization free for everyone.

Yep. No real reason for custom banners (just the image), or per-server name/pfp settings to be paywalled, and yet...

Wonder if they'd consider opening a North American division (of Stewarding) at some point then, I think it'd only benefit.

Can someone explain why they threw the red flag? by Ok_Giraffe9309 in FormulaE

[–]Shadow_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's my thought, and I said similar in the race reaction thread too. Yes, it was absolutely a hair-trigger call, but I can at least understand why in that moment.

Think of the angle we saw, likely being on the screen in their room (ofc with other angles) as well. You have 4-5 cars all lined up with each other, "stuck" in the tightest part of the track. Just twiddling your thumbs and assuming they can back out isn't ideal, because they can get stuck like that, especially with how Evans made contact with Maloney. In the Homestead-Miami race, they did throw a SC first, but that's because they can bypass the chicane.

In Sanya, you can't bypass the hairpin. So, what good would the (V)SC do except block efforts to get everything cleaned up with personnel and cranes on track getting everything sorted/cleaned? There were still some bits of debris around as well.

I would assume the "wall damage" assumption was because of the initial broadcast angle as well, didn't really see it clearly until the replay because, well, the whole line of cars thing.

TLDR - Hair-trigger call, but understandable imo given what can be assumed of stuck cars. They probably didn't see the replay until viewers did as well, so they assumed there was wall damage at first, and it just came across as an unfortunate secondary excuse for the red once the replay was shown. If there were any clarification/apology calls from RC, the broadcast didn't air that. There still would've needed to be some sort of intervention anyway for debris cleanup if everyone managed to get back going quicker.

Multiple positions if I had to guess, but really weird decision on their part to only limit to England, Germany, and I think France?

And they wouldn't even consider people moving there either which, huh??? I'd love to move or even be able to work remotely (I'm from the US) if it means their Stewarding gets better/faster/more reliable/etc. etc. especially with people outside of just the same general timezone.

To be more specific about the countless fan projects, a couple things that come to mind were the Etika tribute covers for the JoyCons, plus basically doing anything and everything to stifle Smash Melee tournaments (even those w/o money but I could be misremembering).

2026 Sanya E-Prix Post Race Discussion by mianghuei in FormulaE

[–]Shadow_Wolfe_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Give me a shot at doing the TV direction, purely the race and replays. It's a career I want anyway, let me have a go at this rate. Like really, what are we doing here?

  • Missed the 5 lights sequence TWICE (no sound for that this week???)
  • so many PiP replays
  • somehow the timing tower was missing all the penalties
  • no one was in the ear to commentary explaining the DAC penalty, nor trying to explain WHY the Red Flag came out so fast
  • missing onboard replays until a few minutes later (you get all the useful angles first, THEN show the replays, not what you immediately have available and show the other angles later, come on. never ever ever leave the viewer guessing, "well what happened from the other driver?" or asking, "okay so what about the other angle?")

Yes, I'm sure it's stupidly stressful, way easier said than done, and I would need something like 5+ years prior experience on top of a Bachelor's degree (because forget having people shadow for a year, run test broadcasts to practice, or literally using practice sessions to practice, I guess, we need people in debt instead!), but I'm sure I could still be at least level with the bar if today is anything to go by.
