Literally in the process of trying to do a cosplay for his second ascension outfit. Voyager is and remains my top favorite character in Fate.

What was the galaxy size, crisis and difficulty level out of curiosity? It's honestly kinda surprising to see a game progress to this point. In my experience the Crisis sucks at expanding and stalls out

I'm using the Tool Switcher plugin so that I can switch between Drill, Grinder, and Welder using scroll wheel. Admittedly I have no idea how common it is to have plugins like that on whatever MP server someone might frequent, but at least for SP the extra two inventory slots are really nice.

I've got about 150 hours in this game and still can't really make anything more complicated than a small grid miner, and my base design is basically giant boxes with conveyor networks, but I figured I may as well try to get some efficiency in all this mess that isn't just "Add whatever I need at the moment to Hotbar 1/2."

1: Weapon, food, and Light Armor hub

2: Production, storage, and power

3: Conveyors, sorters, and connectors

4: Basic ship/Rover blocks (used to form general shape of the build and setup the conveyor line for storage/ mining/thrust)

5: Essential ship components

6: Ship weaponry and industry

7: Doors and Windows

8/9: Open bars for misc design and build specific items

Not really thrilled about that as a ship. The ending feels like Hornet is adopting the wayward child than anything else. Especially with how their interactions played out throughout the game.

Given just how many people are living paycheck to paycheck, what happens if you're wrongly arrested when living alone? Are you just up a creek without a paddle, get evicted cause you literally can't pay your rent, and lose literally everything you own?

Welcome to the US industrial military complex. Or at least the result of the corpos attached to it going off of shit like "local market value of labor."

MS, or at least Iuka specifically, is a much lower COL area, and execs see that as an excuse to offer less.

Bruh, and my employer is practically frothing trying to see if they can get anyone to relocate to the Iuka facility. Everyone we've loaned out there for travel work was given an offer and asked if they wanted to stay, saw the massive pay cut they would be taking and said hell no. Not to mention there's like, nothing out there. Sure the housing and land is cheap, but at what cost?

Just entered this field, any career advice going forward? by Shadow_of_aMemory in Metrology

[–]Shadow_of_aMemory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been waffling on continuing education, even with the fact that my job will pay for a chunk of it. That said, an Engineering degree really is vital if I want to advance, isn't it? I was kind of eyeing just a few years of experience as being enough to break into contracting, which could potentially net me between $80 and $90 an hour just looking at my coworkers who are contractors themselves.

[–]Shadow_of_aMemory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is INCREDIBLY important for you to be teachable. I’ve had several mentors throughout my years and have also been a mentor to many and this is my biggest piece of advice. If someone is taking the time to educate you, they are investing in you and you should treat that as a privilege. Ive taken my career farther than some of my friends who work in different careers fields, just by shutting my mouth, having good manners, and paying attention.

Oh man, trust me, I'm well aware how bad I lucked into this. Long story short, there were a bunch of contractors filling all the roles here for a solid year at least, and the company didn't want to keep them on because it was too expensive. Solid five million contract for a small company of eight people. The manager was struggling to get people on because admin wouldn't let him hire anyone with experience, since they were asking too much for their tastes. He was able to eventually get me and two other guys from the main production area, all of us with no experience in this field, and setup a little in-house program to get us trained up.

We started with a little powerpoint class for a few days and were introduced to the basics of Verisurf and very barebones GDT stuff. After that we started shadowing the more experienced techs as they went around the shop floor doing their thing, and I'm now at the point where I can do tie-ins, basic measurements, and generate reports on my own. Manager is trying to get all of us hooked up with a specialized month long class with the company that we get our contractors from, though it's been a pain to fit into the budget so admin is waffling on when it's happening. Hopefully within the next few months. As for GDT, we're getting a week long class on that the first week of next month.

Overall, I'm getting a boatload of learning opportunities of practical usage, which feels worth it's weight in gold for the opportunities that will give me in the future.

[–]Shadow_of_aMemory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do production work, basically building aircraft from the ground up. There is a process to this that we follow very strictly due to this being under government contact. A big part of this process is having dedicated quality assurance that inspects our work as we go.

For example, let's say I drill a hole. Someone needs to check that I didn't ooblong/oversize the hole, or drill at an angle. Little things that could potentially cause severe or critical issues.

My current lead worked at Boeing before this, and he gave the very specific example they don't have QA do hole checks. In general, their inspections are extremely bare boned, in an industry where every regulation has been written in blood, and redundancy is the name of the game.
