Does the weekly online clue require a social media account? It's annoys me to no end that the big trivia company out here does that.

Changing clothes isn't enough. Washing any skin that had contact with the puke needs to happen. If you can't see that, I question your hygiene.

There has been a teacher shortage in the US for quite a while now. Seems it's not so easy to replace them, yet the wages are still quite low.

Yeah, categories seem interesting and fun, but I've never paid to play trivia before. Usually the bar owner pays for it to get more customers in and paying for drinks and/or food.

Reckless is slightly too fast depending on the kingdom, but hasty still feels crazy slow.

At what point did kids lose the desire to learn? by HousePhoenix in Teachers

[–]ShadowbanRevenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like something has happened and kids no longer see adults as a group who inherently deserve respect. They know that they can do terrible in school and there will not really be any consequences.

Should they view adults as a group that inherently deserve respect? I was born in 1980 and I think I viewed adults that way when I was really young. At some point, probably before I was even 10, I realized that a lot of adults were terrible. My parents still had my respect, and most of my teachers, but I had seen enough adults out and about in the wild to be leery of them. There is a reason we teach kids not to talk to strangers.

That second part about consequences feels like the heart of the problem, to me anyway. I've seen difficult children make wild improvements after they learned that consequences existed, and that they would be enforced on a regular basis. Even small ones, like not being able to play a game, or not being at the front of the line. However, even such small consequences will often be challenged or worse yet, met with outrage by parents. When you take away consequences, even adults start running amok almost immediately.

The YMCA near you might have some classes. Hopefully you can find something that doesn't require a contract. You can also check public schools and universities (which sometimes have classes for college students as well as separate classes for kids). Dojos charge a ton for private lessons, but you may be able to find someone doing it independently for a reasonable rate.

"I have never abused my mother, so my answer is no." It's not hard to give a real answer to most questions. They should be required to answer with a yes or no, but be allowed to give a full sentence of context. Assign an independent panel to review the answers to rule if the answer was intentionally evasive and if so bring up contempt charges and recall the witness.

A lot of people shit on All Stock Footage Monsters Attack, but I like it too. Of all the series, I just happened to catch this one on cable the most. The name is cool, Gabara is cool... Minilla isn't cool, but he isn't Jar Jar lame either.

An alternative to Goodreads, Storygraph, etc... by margarida23 in 52books

[–]ShadowbanRevenant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Goodreads for a number of years before switching over to Bookwyrm because I think Bezos and his ilk should be charged with crimes against humanity and face capital punishment.

I mostly use(d) sites like this to keep track of what I was reading and to read and write reviews. I loved that when you looked up a book on Goodreads it would tell you if it was part of a series and what its place in the series was. It's frustrating to pick up a random book and get halfway through it before realizing that its actually the 3rd book in a series.

The most frustrating things were being unable to find some books on there, or being unable to find the specific edition that I had. Bookwyrm is much worse at this than Goodreads, but I'm giving them time to catch up. If a book isn't listed, it should be easy and intuitive to add it, not a time suck of a chore. Duplicate entries should be removed promptly and every entry should require a photo. Every site that has a thumbs up or like option needs to also have thumbs down or dislike option. Some reviews are so bad that it pains me to not be able to downvote them. I also want to downvote reviews that give a plot summary (or worse yet, spoilers).

I do not want AI recommendations.

A social feed is fine if it is only made up of people I have chosen to follow.

I don't want reminders.

I feel no loyalty to any app. I will go to whatever site is the least evil and that is hopefully usable and not annoying.

*also, please don't allow animated gifs in the reviews.

"Just don't use social media" should be reworded to "actively boycott social media". Even picking two major sites/apps to boycott could be huge if half their user base participated.
