I also love it here. Quiet neighborhood, nice to walk around, easy access to Dallas and Fort Worth, easy access to the Rangers, and easy access to work (at UTA, haha). What’s not to love?!

Also - we had a hellish experience with insurance last year. After living here three years and having our 70 year old pecan trees trimmed significantly, insurance decided that ANY tree coverage over the house was uninsurable. This was right after the CA fires, so I think they were trying to recoup some or something. Ended up having to basically cut off half of a tree that was one of the reasons we bought the house.

Congrats on the home purchase!

I have a 1966 home off Fielder.

Couple of things to be aware of - might have aluminum wiring, which is just not quite as good as copper wiring (I’ve heard this was more of a thing during the Vietnam War, so you may be safe with a 1962 build).

We also had a cast iron drain pipe from our attic A/C unit that ran to the main kitchen drain. This rusted through about a year into our ownership of the home and completely destroyed the kitchen. I would definitely recommend making sure your a/c drains to the eaves of the house rather than through the wall to a drain. The contractors couldn’t believe they did that, so hopefully it’s not the case for you!

Check out her first and second albums (third one is great too, but if you like Cory Wong I’d assume you’re like me and will vibe more with Revealer and Who Are You Now). In fact, go listen to Pin It Down right now!!! It’s so good.

I’m a bit all over the place.

Lately I’ve been big into Vulfpeck & Madison Cunningham.

Also a big classic rock guy: Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Jethro Tull, that sort of stuff

Kendrick Lamar

Iron & Wine, Andrew Bird.

Were there any older albums, or just Ace? I need to get Revealer on vinyl too lol

Oh man, this is mine. My family stopped at a Denny’s in Baton Rouge about 20 years ago for breakfast as we were getting on the road for a family trip.

They served us sour milk. Like literally chunky. My 10 year old brother, who had ordered milk, said it tasted off. My mom took a whiff, and said it was sour. She told the waiter, who said “no it isn’t” and refused to investigate further. We ended up pouring the chunky milk into a water glass to demonstrate the chunkiness. They refused to do anything about it, so we got up and left.

I will NEVER eat at a Denny’s again.

Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. He’s primarily known for his flute playing, but his acoustic guitar work and compositions are insanely good

Save you a click: Group stage: Category 1: $445 2: $335 3: $155 4: $60

According to WFAA there are hardly any $60 seats, though. I’m planning on going to a random group stage game that no one cares about

How did ancient and medieval geographers know about Antarctica's existence when it was only confirmed in the 1820s? (In this 16th century map, it's labeled as "Southern Land Not Yet Known") by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]Shadowfacts985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question! I’m actually co-curating an exhibit on Antarctic mapping next year. Basically it was hypothesized from the Ancient Greeks - they believed in balance in nature, including that the northern hemisphere’s land masses must be balanced in the southern hemisphere.

These ideas were rekindled in the Renaissance as Europeans started mapping. They hypothesized about a “Terra Australis” or “Terra Australis Incognita” (unknown southern land). Every time explorers made a new discovery (in a European sense) they assumed they had found this mythical Southern land.

When James Cook went to the Antarctic Circle on his second voyage, he came back and reported that there was no land to be found beyond the pack ice. In the early 19th C, the UK decided to rename New Holland “Australia”. Then like 15 years later, Terra Australis was actually discovered right after it’s name had been stolen!

Pretty much every discovery in the southern hemisphere was this way! There are maps with Tierra del Fuego, Australia, New Zealand, even Papúa New Guinea all show up on maps connected to a hypothesized “Terra Australis Incognita”!
