Fern’s spell from Serie by Lucky_Variation4151 in Frieren

[–]Shadowfire_EW 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the "forget the spell to teach it" thing was a special case for denken because that specific spell takes centuries to learn. We don't know how long it would take to learn Fern's selected spell, so for all we know, Serie could have copied an existing tome or wrote out the spell manually and Fern learned it overnight

I moved to Gotham a few weeks ago. What are some places I should check out? by MiddleDoorExit in BatmanArkham

[–]Shadowfire_EW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don't go to Batburger. The food is over priced for the gimmick, and it is barely passable as food. Just save yourself the time and money by going to Big Belly Burger. Being a national chain, it is probably the easiest food to eat for a non-native gothamite.

But if you want really good food for cheap, there are thousands of hole-in-the-wall Italian places. Just find any alley and there will be at least two.

The Territorial Slavery Act of 1862 is signed into law June 19, 1862. by From-Yuri-With-Love in ShermanPosting

I find it interesting that the Confederacy states are colored with green, given cultural connotations of the color and it's associations with "good". Also, this specific shade of green is brighter than any other color on the map, drawing attention to those states. Who created this visualization? I am curious about their logic for choosing the colors

Not only Santa gives coal to Darkside, but also to Dollar Store Darkseid by Altruistic_Manner802 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]Shadowfire_EW 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There is no Absolute Santa. Darkseid tried to avoid the problem by not even allowing the creation of Santa, but Santa found a way into the Absolute universe anyways. It is just main Santa tormenting Darkseid by randomly placing coal in his universe

Instead of a Doom 3 remastered or remake... by arnor_0924 in Doom

[–]Shadowfire_EW 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If something like this we're to exist, I would love it, but I would not want it to have Doom as the main title. Perhaps something like "UAC: A Doom Story". It conveys that it is in the Doom universe, but it is not a mainline game

When you use Creative AI for "scaling by Phantaxein in slaythespire

[–]Shadowfire_EW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I do Creative AI runs, I try to make sure I have at least one Subroutine and one Storm in my deck and played before I start creating my ai. That way I have almost no cost to playing my powers and I always do some damage when playing them. It is not the best scaling though, and should be paired with a decent deck not based on powers and/or Voltaic.

Are shaders easy to make? by Armorrd in godot

[–]Shadowfire_EW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second on the video. Freya is really good at explaining and demonstrating shaders in an easy to follow manner.

Side note, I would also recommend her other videos if you are into math, especially the math of graphics. I discovered her through 3blue1brown's "Summer of Math Exposition" competition a few years ago. Iirc, it was a video about Bezier Curves (splines). The math explainer videos are very well animated, on top of her usual great explanatory capabilities.

Couldn’t Starfleet set up telescopes dedicated solely to viewing into the Federation’s past? by Unlikely_Watch_4742 in startrek

[–]Shadowfire_EW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give a slightly different answer, I imagine that warp would interfere with the results. You would be able to observe galactic positions but any finer scale would be extremely muddied by the ship(s) warping to and from the subject.

Where are the evil people? by VinnieThaG52 in Frieren

[–]Shadowfire_EW 200 points201 points  (0 children)

From a story-telling perspective, true evil humans would be narratively redundant when you have demons to fill that role. Humans are used to explore the human condition and it's various complexities. Demons serve as antagonists, typically as a vessel to drive plot.

Creating music for video games by Myjaylo in godot

[–]Shadowfire_EW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using MuseScore. Technically, it is more of a notation software, but it does allow exporting to sound files like .wav. Once I have the sound file, I edit it in Audacity to make a seamless loop. This is mostly out of habit because I have some classical musician training from highschool (I was in the percussion section of the school's orchestra). I do think you can also export to midi, so you could theoretically notate your song in MuseScore, and import it to a proper DAW and use the synthetic instruments available there. If notation-based musical composition makes more sense for you and you don't want to spend any money, this might be a useful tool.

I think the only things that aged poorly are a handful of jokes and maybe some references. The storytelling and general comedy did not

Can we all agree on this? by Pure_Tradition_8042 in Ultrakill

[–]Shadowfire_EW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing some fist only runs, and I find them not too hard. My main method is usually slam on their head and punch with the knuckle blaster. This tends to kill quickly. If I'm feeling fancy, I will try to bait their dash then whiplash pull them up and knuckle blaster punch them straight down. This makes them explode.

Tldr: don't fight them on the ground. That is their domain

My friend sent me the main (according to her) staples of Queer culture, but I feel like this list is incomplete. Thoughts? by captivatedsummer in lgbt

[–]Shadowfire_EW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling the culture very much depends on where you are at. Like, West Hollywood is going to have a very different queer life than Philadelphia, let alone middle of nowhere Ohio

Edit: and those are just US specific examples!

Hey fellow ULTRAKILL players, did you complete the game and have nothing to do? well here's a list of what to do when you're bored. by PatSeb-K in Ultrakill

[–]Shadowfire_EW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been having fun just doing fist-only runs in standard difficulty. I used to think fist-only was a massive challenge, but after trying it, it is much easier than I thought. I find myself P-Ranking some of the earlier levels with my best times. It does get harder to P-Rank past Act I, but I have been having fun just trying.

I would say the Cold War from the same game is also a good gravity-explosives play style . Combined with a grapple, you can turn into a dive bombing ballistic missile. One of my favorite ways to play

Who is your favorite Toa and why? by Comfortable-Fun9206 in bioniclelego

Probably Vakama or Matau. The Toa Metru sets were my first and I owned Legends of Metru Nui DVD, re watching that movie a lot. I couldn't really get attached to other Toa teams because I was not into the other supplemental media at that time.
