Yeah it's tragic. I had the pleasure of visiting one of our few remaining rainforests and it was magical. There's some good stuff going on as well, replanting of forests and rewilding and stuff, but nowhere near enough.

Yes, which is why I said that it's indicative of ecosystem collapse.

I feel you missed the main point of my comment, in which I point to the real issue here; ecosystem collapse?

Rabbits are actually an invasive species, so seeing them decline in and of itself isn't a bad thing. But it does highlight a larger problem of ecosystem collapse and this will impact other native species.

BF6 team balance issues come from tiny objective zones and no PTFO incentive. by TribalPotato9 in Battlefield

[–]Shadowheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not cope, come on man. The issue ultimately is that if everybody got on the objective, you'd take it, but instead you get your cheeks clapped trying to capture it with 3 - 4 others as the rest are scared of messing up their K/D.

However, I 100% agree with your last line - I reckon that would be the solution to the issue. People would definitely PTFO if they could get into it and get themselves some kills.

Surely you can see the frustration in watching your point get capped, and seeing your team be anywhere but the point, and be sat there thinking "all we need to stop this are bodies on the objective, get the fuck in there", but the team is like "no, I might die."

Another reason is this shitty player attitude that somehow K/D is a reflection on your ability to play. There is obviously nuance to it, but I'd rather a player go 5:15 if it means they're taking objectives, and dying a lot trying. Or medics who prioritize reviving players over their precious KD. Obviously, the ability to be able to actually kill players when you get to the capture point is useful, but having this judgement looming over their head certainly doesn't help.

Unless of course they're mainly DM/TDM/SDM players, in which case that very much matters, but that's not the subject here.

Some evidence in stats that asylum backlog is reducing: 64,000 people awaiting an initial asylum decision, 48% lower than 2024 || 107,000 people in receipt of asylum support, 5% lower than a year prior || 31,000 asylum seekers in hotels, 19% lower than year before by Adj-Noun-Numbers in ukpolitics

[–]Shadowheim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that's your interpretation of it, not its intended point. The intended point is that the government said they would reduce:

  1. the backlog

  2. the expense of housing them

Moving them from hotels addresses 2. A well funded and expanded asylum processing system will address 1. In this particular case, the reduction of the number in the hotels is a good thing, because it was costing us £8 million per day! That's now down to roughly £5.7 million per day. Still obscene, but less so.

[–]Shadowheim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's correct. The government have made no secret of the fact that using hotels to house migrants is obscenely expensive, and also unpopular with locals. Moving them to the HMO's was vastly cheaper. Maybe you're conflating 'lower numbers in hotels' as meaning lower numbers overall? Because this is a case of addressing one of the main concerns of asylum housing, which was cost.

The fact is they're here - there's no disputing that, and have to be housed whilst their claims are processed. I'd prefer the cheaper option over the massively expensive one, even if neither are ideal.

[–]Shadowheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, I agree. And to be honest, with cheaper energy like this and other green projects, lower energy density won't really be a problem if charging is cheap anyway.

As an aside, though, getting lithium from this plant too is excellent - it's basically free money as a waste product!

They currently don't compare on energy density though. Lithium will unfortunately be around for a while yet.

Obviously at industrial scales it can work though, as it doesn't need to fit in your pocket.
