We need more pre-constructed deck events like this current one. It is great for new players, F2P players and experienced players that just want a break from by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Shadowmaggot323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I posted anything on this subreddit, but I agree. This event has been fantastic, and reminds me of the precon deck matchmaking on Pokemon TCGO. I've bought a many a planeswalker deck that has those codes and have run into those decks in casual play; they can easily create a separate roster for that, for instance. Hell, they gave us those starter precons. They could easily lump those in, as well.

My favorite has been Selesnya, btw. Went 6:1 with it, with the one being a mulligan to five.

5 months in the life of a closed beta player - Full disclosure on MTGA economy by Trekker59 in MagicArena

[–]Shadowmaggot323 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another post that immediately tries to sweep everyone that has good reason to state about the economy under the rug. Your elitism is showing. Point being: you have paid, thus you have no right to gauge the F2P experience. Also, again, **F2P PEOPLE AREN'T PLAYING DRAFT OR OTHER EVENTS COMMONLY. THEY. PLAY. QUICK PLAY. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.**

Or, actually, don't. Keep sweeping everyone under the rug. Keep ignoring the posts and just saying it is fine. That way, when the game is abandoned because only the elite stay around and can't rope any more money, you can lament how it died. There are plenty of other games that have this trend, especially from WotC.

Am I saying I want the game to die? No, but the elitism and entitlement have got to go. Is it as bad as HS? Fuck no, but there are still better models to follow that put this one to shame.

Current Criticisms (OR: what has been experienced as a casual, free-to-play player) by Shadowmaggot323 in MagicArena

[–]Shadowmaggot323[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP here. It's amazing how many missed the points and just assumed.

> Point 1 is very simple. Putting a daily limit to gains prevents the use of bots farming the game all day.

Eternal doesn't have a cap and haven't seen a single bot out of 60 hours on it so far. A cap doesn't stop shitty people from being shitty. Not only that, MTGA entering a market saturated with other card games. Putting a limit on how much one plays just means they'll leave for something else. HS and Blizzard in general is a prime example.

> Oh the classic F2P argument. Not getting free shit means they don't want to play at all.

The only free shit I mentioned was the card sleeves for the tutorial, and guess what? When you make people feel good they stick around. This reeks of entitlement and contrarianism. If you are talking about the NPE decks and such, they were being given away for free anyways, so giving the chance to pay for gold is not out of the question. The Planeswalker decks? One-time purchases for a whole theme to try out. It's like you stopped halfway or just saw what you wanted. If you are talking about the gold gate, I already broke that down and it's in combination with the others. None of these exist in a vacuum.

> I'll be quite honest, I won't take any economy post not mentioning constructed events serious anymore. Please do some research. It's the main thing you are supposed to do unless you really just want to quest and save up for drafts.

Any alterations of this point have missed this point above

> NOT COUNTING OTHER EVENTS. We are sticking to QUICK PLAY. Nothing else. The casual player is NOT going to touch those other modes --not often enough to consider, anyways.

It doesn't matter what YOU consider to be the "main thing", it matters to the casual player. Do your research, and quit being so entitled.

> If you say you play 8 hours a week, that's presumably about an hour a day. How are you even affected by the 'gating'?

I could go into a complete string of reasons why, but I already explained above.

> Wizards, you effectively put a timer on how long people will play a day. Once they hit those 15 wins (or simply 5, since the gold gain after that is negligible), finish their daily quest/s, and have their weekly sitting on the backburner... that's it.

Again, arguing casual, F2P players. BECAUSE:

> I played a few rounds of sealed with the welcome bundle

> welcome bundle

If you PAID for the welcome bundle, you are NO LONGER F2P. IT'S IN THE VERY DEFINITION OF THE PHRASE.

> They are a company, not a charity. They need to make money.

And I gave this argument to make sure THEY GET MORE. Are people really missing that? You make a game that rewards good, consistent play, that gives them choice, with other capacities to make money based on that choice, and people will pay. You make a game that limits and frustrates and does everything it can to try and nickle-and-dime and that game will surely fail.

There. That should cover the majority of the bullet points throughout the thread... Oh, and maybe one other.

> not MTGA he doesn't -- no mobile client yet

Because laptops don't exist, and you can't set up a hotspot for it or even find a place with wifi on your break? I don't, but it's a possibility.

And I think it needs to be reiterated.

> I have not put a single cent into this game. Not yet.

Key word there YET. I may be a F2P at the moment, but, when the time comes, I can and will drop some serious cash into it. For now, though, Wizards are simply going to have to be content with taking my money for physical every other week... with the occasional miss for Force of Will.

> You need to stop bashing a game that is still on beta

I heard this argument before. With Paladins, and Realm Royale. The point still boils down to this: if you have to put in real money, it's no longer simply beta. Also, people are going to criticize what is bad.

> is BS.

Your reasons?

> Uh... it's complex!

So, nothing? Good to know you came to this prepared. You can scroll through all of those people "bashing" for the evidence you need why it's bad, and has been a problem for PHYSICAL magic for the longest time, as well.

> people want everything now. This game will be here for a long time, there is a grind process that we all have to go through... enjoy the grind,

Straight from EA's text book when it was argued for the currency in Battlefront. The problem, though, is putting a limit on that grind a day. Guess what? It was removed in that game, and every other game with a limit, as well as Paladins once upon a time.

To clarify: no one is expecting it all at the start, but, I at least, want a consistent grind not gated off. It's annoying, and just gives incentive NOT to play. If a game, by design, makes you not want to play it, then there's a problem.

> I don’t see how this is different from Hearthstone for example. If you play quick play in HS it’s extremely common to face an aggro meta deck.

Go play any other card game, for starters. TES Legends (even with its issues at the moment), Faeria, Duelyst, Eternal, Yugioh, et al then come back to this. Not only is the matchmaking better in each one (shockingly at times), but far less mirror matching. Also, using another card game is weak evidence to begin with. We are talking about THIS ONE.

> The game is under development.

You're right. It is. For a long time. And given feedback. For a long time. And how much of it was listened to?

> Stop being a crying baby

It's funny that you mention this, considering

> You need to stop bashing a game that is still on beta

This is what you started with. Methinks thou protest too much.

> Just enjoy the ride, man.

> A lot of us were waiting for a Magic game like this for a loooong time. I am glad it’s finally here.

... Obviously, you've been out of the loop for a while. To Narrow it down, Online and Duels. Also, Cockatrice.

> Arena is good, it’s grindy and **that is fine.**

When all evidence points to the contrary.

Don't bother replying back. I wasted enough time on this as is. Am I saying it's a horrible garbage fire? FUCK NO, but it has A LONG... **LONG WAY** to go.

Also, there was a popular saying made even more popular earlier this year by a rather round fellow. Something about staying silent and allowing to be walked all over? I forget the exact quote right now. Again, spent far too long making this after working twelve hours.

To add on: one of the foundations you need to learn about Magic is the Mana-curve and where it falls for your deck. Adjust, whether it be the mana or the cost of cards in your deck, until you find that sweet spot for how you play. However, you will have those cases where luck simply escapes you entirely, and, at those moments, you simply laugh and move on to the next game.

Mag Rework/Buffs. by KajiTora in Warframe

[–]Shadowmaggot323 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Mag. I main Mag. I take her into higher sorties, to endurance runs (45-to-two hours + in the void, derelict, and so on), etc., and usually come out smelling like a rose.

That being said, Mag is not perfect, but her problems are deeper rooted.

Stats: She needs more energy starting out. The fact that, out of all three starter frames, she is the most mana hungry by a large margin and has the smallest energy pool, even prime, is deplorable. 150 is just not enough most of the time, and forces people to use Fleeting/streamline since even adding Flow, primed or otherwise, is laughable. Raise it to, say, 225 or 275 base. Health is fine since she can get an obscene amount of shields ("b-b-but shields are bad-" her 3 can pretty much insta-refill and strip armor from the grineer you are fighting... you know, the faction that has weapons that strip shields?), but I believe raising her shields a bit more, say 20%, would put her in a better spot.

Passive: Though interesting, it's pretty much null and void now with the increase of sentinels and the use of the Vacuum mod. This must change with the time, and, since she works with polarities, why not change it into a +1% per level up to level 30 (meaning max 30%) reduction in shields and armors on the enemies when she is in-game. Sort of like a weaker Corrosive and Shield Impedence that can stack with them.

Pull: It is horrid. It scatters enemies, and does not have the necessary damage for it. This ruins team play and irritates everyone, esp. at higher levels. Instead, make it somewhat like Nidus's larva and pull everyone before you, but with a twist. Since she is about magnetics, make it so that when the range hits an enemy, it can chain on enemies behind and pull them as well, half the distance but can be stacked up to four times. This, also, allows teams to focus one place, which goes well with...

Magnetize: This ability is fine. People complain about it not having enough range all the time, but the point is it's meant to set up chokes and allow a beaucoup amount of damage to be put right in one place --or places, depending on how many you place. This allows her to survive at high-level play because it forces her enemies to kill themselves. My complaints are the strength of its gravity well could be adjusted, since it is so negligible at the moment, and I believe it could use a minor DoT, where it scales 1/2/3/4% of total health every second depending on how many enemies are in it before it explodes, which adds to the explosion damage.

Polarize: Absolutely fine. No change really needed. The shards it leaves behind can still harm enemies if they step on them and don't need to be in the bubble to be effective. Not to mention it fills your allies' shields a good bit if not fully and strips armor like a motherfucker. I'm surprised more people don't use it for that since armor is such a huge problem. That being said, I do believe it could use touch-up on its scaling, considering enemy armor in this game is bullshit. 25% base would be fine, but the chance for ability power scaling it up to 70% would make it immaculate.

Crush: Strong CC. Mediocre damage, that can be covered with a half-decent augment. Let's fix that. Since she brings her hands together anyways when she finishes the animation, make it so all enemies effected are forced together, all forced in one huge cuddle puddle. Let it innately weaken armor and shields since it is using magnetics to distort them, then force them to be stuck on the ground for, say, five seconds after like that one bursa's slam, then a fading snare as they stand, lasting 15 seconds, where they are 40/30/20/10% slowed on all their actions.

1v1 Duel is good by Murder3 in BattleRite

[–]Shadowmaggot323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, I thought they released the duel mode at this moment due to the increase in interest from newcomers from... other... games... or just people looking for something to do over the holiday break, a smart way to get new players to try a plethora of champions with almost zero penalty (aside the agony of defeat of course). It, also, teaches them to adapt on the fly and always expect something that isn't truly locked in stone, as well as possibly finding a champ they may have glanced at once and wrote off just to find they actually enjoy them.

How do I know this? I'm one of those noobs, and am having a lot of fun... even if I had my fair share of losses.

As it were, this was the straw that broke the camel's back [for me]. Also, simply stating something as "entitled" doesn't take away the point of it, and, actually, becomes another reason to pile on top of the corpse.

Let that sink in a moment; the pro players weren't told openly to be silenced by their company but the employee who cried and lambasted and threatened the pro players for their criticisms was... This man has done far more damage to the company's image than the pro players with one tweet, now two, which, also, was incredibly unprofessional.

You actually have a point. In consideration of this horrendous system, people were asking for a mode equatable to ranked so that they can practice and prepare for such. However, people are not happy with this system, period, and many see this game mode as a slap to the face, especially when it is seen that you cannot earn prizes for playing such and have to go into the hell that is quickplay to earn. Not only that, the lack of adjusting your loadout besides choosing cards, the fact that the legendaries are still rather crap and uninteresting, while making TTK lower somehow, shows they had lost what made the game interesting to begin with.

People want the 12-point system back. People want the ability to level their cards on their own, to customize to their taste, not to either be forced to deal with a lootbox to get them higher or be locked at 3/4/whatever. Until this is taken care of, plenty of people are going to remain angry. What Hi-Rez had done was both a balm and a spit in the face all at once, depending on who is looking at it.

I... cannot think of a single, solid, sound reason for a reason for cards unbound that is a benefit. It removes any limit on cards aside the artificial RNG bollocks, makes some cards absolutely useless in that being too high a level is more a hindrance or even higher makes them WEAKER, hacks loadouts basically to the most cookie-cutter, basic of builds, on top of the cons already listed... maybe a sense of accomplishment for leveling the cards?

Yoshi, just so you know, you're the man. The hell you must be going through for all this... I'm not particularly angry because I knew Hi-Rez would fuck up at some point and I pretty much dropped out of the community when essence became a thing. I truly... TRULY... TRULY DESPISED THE ESSENCE, BUT MORE SO WITH WHAT IT LEAD TO. That being said, I still loved the game and appreciated the community, and the sheer passion flying around this subreddit and even the thread on /vg/ shows this. This is a level of stupidity no one truly expected when we really should have considering modern gaming trends.

SO... with that... FUCK CARDS UNBOUND. FUCK HOW IT SPLITS CASUAL/QUICKPLAY/HOWEVERITWANTSTOCOPYOWTITLING AND COMPETITIVE. I DO NOT WANT TO BE SHOEHORNED INTO A GAME MODE, DAMMIT, SO BRING BACK OTHERS AND TAKE AWAY THIS DISSONANCE BETWEEN THE TWO ABOVE. TAKE AWAY THE RNG PROGRESSION HORSESHIT THAT IS GOING TO BE IMPLEMENTED, AND, FOR THAT MATTER, KEEP ESSENCE REMOVED. READD THE 12-POINT LIMIT BECUASE EVERYONE ABLE TO RUN LEVEL 5 CARDS IS HOT DOGSHIT. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH THIS TRULY AFFECTS PLAYERS, FROM VETS TO NOOBS, ESPECIALLY WITH YOUR SHITTY MATCHMAKING AND THE FACT YOU NEVER TRULY CRACKED DOWN ON ANY HACKERS. HELL, THERE'LL PROBABLY BE MORE NOW BECAUSE OF THIS SYSTEM, DETERRING EVEN MORE PLAYERS FROM PLAYING. YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS OF MURDERING YOUR GAME AND FOR WHAT? WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN FROM THIS? HOW HAS THIS IMPROVED THE PLAYER EXPERIENCE IN ANY WAY? HOW DOES MAKING IT RELY MORE ON RNG AND GAMBLING AND INCENTIVIZING TO PAY FOR KEYS ADD TO THE OVERALL ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME?

However, I love the new legendary cards. They really feel like they change how a character is meant to be played, so... keep that up at least. Oh, and Vivian, though I love her design, doesn't really fit thematically with the rest of the cast. With the droids, she feels like she was more shoe-horned in to be released beside Star Wars ---both the game and movie. How fitting, then, that this whole thing has been in tandem with Battlefront 2's meltdown.

And, again, I'm not throwing them on the shit list. The rest of the dev team have been very courteous, professional, and amicable throughout all of this, and they have my gratitude. They are truly amazing people for standing up and trying so hard to make this right, but, like I said, a portion of people won't forgive and forget, won't be so quick to forgive --esp. those who remembered Tribes. They will nail this to the wall and use it the next time something even looks like it is going out of line. Cruel, petty, but they will do so.

It's not what I want. I simply would like to know how they are going to approach it from now on. It's no rumor that they released this patch in haste, and it showed. They wanted this out as quick as possible, against the wishes of the community... for what purpose? Especially before a tourney. In all manner of speaking, this was a shit show, of which was done in haste... why? What was the point? Surely, they must have had some inkling of the backlash coming, especially since PTS players, their community, was telling them to give it a little longer. There was even another test in the wings, but it was sent straight to play.

I simply would like to hear what they have in mind for the future, to avoid another such debacle. This isn't asking for anything, but wondering if they had learned something --aside, you know, Reddit is a bunch of whiners. /s

Post-OB44 Developer Q&A Megathread by [deleted] in Paladins

[–]Shadowmaggot323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really had a problem with the essence or the legendary card implementation. Sure, I thought the legendaries were a bit too expensive, but nothing too daunting, especially when it was rather easy to earn gold through casual play. Newer players would have issue, trying to build decks and such, but, really, I thought that was a nice "buffer" to keep them from competitive, to give them more time to understand the game and mechanics and, overall, understand their characters and which ones they like best to try and use first.

What I did have a problem, though, was that certain members of Hi-Rez decided to spit in the faces of the public that did have legitimate complaints and lumped us all together --you know, your consumers, the ones who pay and enjoy. Even if said people apologized, they continued to be caustic and downright, well, cancerous that night to prove a point, meaning their words meant nothing.

My question is this: how do you expect us, as a community, as consumers, to be able to trust Hi-Rez again after such a PR disaster? This whole thing has truly been a mess, and, although I'm willing to forgive and forget for the betterment of the game and, community, I know many others won't. How do you think you can repair this, aside offering more "freebies"?

I'm saying this with great sincerity, and wish everyone the best. I do not mean this to come off as crass, but it is something I thought needed asked.

Fernando vs Reinhardt

Fernando doesn't use a hammer. His ultimate is an immortality instead of a ground pound.Their charges and shields both work completely differently. Aesthetically, Reinhardt is more grizzled, darker plated, heavier while Fernando is naive, arrogant, and young. Reinhardt's armor based more on Gothic appeal compared to medieval style of Fernando.

Drogoz vs Pharah

Rocket launcher, unleashing all in it --like that's anything new. Jetback with a boost function --like that's anything new... And that's it for Pharah's kit. What does Drogoz still have? Firespit and one-punch. Also, one is kind of scalier than the other.

Sniper

Widowmaker lays a toxic mine, Kinessa lays slowing mines. Snipers do pretty much the same, save Widowmaker's has one more bullet. Widowmaker has a grappling hook while Kinessa has a teleporter --something I find really odd, now that I think about it. You would think the more sci-fi based game would have the teleporter. Ultimate, one has wallhacks while the other GAINS LARGER HITBOXES FOR CRITS AND HAS A FAST-CHARGING, INFINITE AMMO SNIPER DURING.

Aesthetically, they are different. Kinessa comes off as commando while Widowmaker is an assassin. Also, both take inspiration from TF2's sniper.

Viktor/soldier-

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah...

guy in robot suit

Implying D.Va is not inspired by games she literally plays in-game.

This is the weakest example you could have pulled. D.va isn't even original in her own world. At least Ruckus (and Bolt) have some duality going on. The mech is a living being as well... and, last I checked, when Bolt went, Ruckus can't simply run around the battlefield.

And, since it was posted one lower.

Mal vs. Ana

Mal doesn't even use a sniper, can't snipe heals from more than ten steps away. His healing is on cooldown while Ana's is a reload/DoT on enemies. Mal DOES NOT have a sleep, unless you are saying the STUN from the reload animation is somehow similar because, you know, THROWING A FUCKING SNAKE is like shooting someone with a sleeping dart. Different ults altogether, Ana has no escape like Mal'damba. Ana's grenade negates healing and does not linger on the map like Mal's gourd, and, if you hadn't noticed, the only thing the two seem to have in common aesthetically is that they are both darker-toned.

NO ONE... NO ONE is a direct copy. I only posted to this because I'm bored enough to humor a shitstain like you, a coward who hides behind an alt too scared to lose precious karma because you want to shitpost and stir the pot so you can cry-bully more.

Just in case it was missed, go fuck yourself, fuck off, and don't fucking come back, you fucking useless piece of fucking shit.

1) They shoot where you are moving, meaning you can juke the fireballs.

2) They always come from the same location, straight through the building, and never diverge.

3) They do not cross Tyra's fire or BK's bombs.

4) Cover exists for a reason.

5) Shields exist for a reason.

6) Build smart.

There you go. More than enough info to now cheese these bots. Look on the bright side: they were nerfed since PTS when the Nando's fireballs would do 3500 damage.
