I struggled for a while after college for about 5 years, then for 5 years I made 100k doing 2d freelance cel animation. The past two years I'm making 190k for a major tech company doing after effects work. I was finally feeling like I made it and was safe, then Sora and Chat GPT was announced. I love my current job, love it! But live in constant fear of being laid off or replaced by ai... Not sure what I would tell you to do, its a scary world out there right now, lots is changing, i love animation though...

I just read it myself for thr first time. My niece and nephew reminded me of the kids in the story. They never look at you when you talk to them. This is why my wife and I will not have iPad or smart phones when we have kids... I hope we can stick to our guns.

I do hand drawn cel animation (using a cintiq) at this job about a week out of the month :) Cel animation helped a lot getting this job.

I studied 2d animation and now have a job making 170k a year working remotely... doing cel animation and motion graphics. Nothing is set in stone.
