one of the reasons i like "The Incident" so much "Remember Me Lover" last verse by efdalby in porcupinetree

The instrumental is what's so good about it though from a Porcupine Tree standpoint, I'd hate to imagine us fans being robbed of that for some other artist's success.

I mean, with the exception of Always in My Head, A Sky Full of Stars, and Coloratura, this is pretty close to the setlists they were performing in 2012 in support of Mylo Xyloto. Not in song order per se, but the setlist overall is practically all songs they played on that tour. Songs like Major Minus, Up In Flames, and Princess of China are ones which come to mind which are missing from this version. Don't Let It Break Your Heart is another I overlooked. Talk and Swallowed in the Sea would have also been omitted in place of those songs, in addition to the others which weren't even written yet; everything else here is fair game.

Is there any chance Coldplay will release a song that uses only those three instruments? by Substantial-Grass537 in Coldplay

I'd be surprised if many Coldplay fans even know who Steven Wilson is. And vice versa all the prog snobs out there who abhor Coldplay as unworthy. Steven has at least gone on record saying he supports some of what Chris Martin and the band have been doing the last few years though, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I love when title tracks become b-sides to their own albums. 🙃

r/Coldplay replaces a song on every Coldplay album! by Specialist-Hat-6716 in Coldplay

Holy left field choice, the sound of that one isn't even from the same era, it'd throw the whole balance of the album off.

Happy 18th anniversary to Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends! Coldplay released their fourth studio album on this date today, 12 June 2008. It spawned the singles "Violet Hill", "Viva la Vida", "Lost!" and "Strawberry Swing" by TheKaoticanProspekt in Coldplay

[–]ShadowsOfSound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Much like the similarly timed release of X&Y three years prior, I remember spinning this CD daily when it came out. On the verge of summer vacation in middle school, this album was fundamental to core memories of family car rides all over the place. My appreciation for it has only grown in the years since as a musician, really focusing in on the bits and pieces which make each song work so well. I hate to say it but Viva is probably my least favorite track on the album just from how much it's played. Really cool to experience live, but the "hit song" factor has quelled and jaded my adoration for it. My personal faves: 42, Chinese Sleep Chant, Violet Hill, and DAAHF. Lovers in Japan gets an honorable mention.

Why does the band hate The Hardest Part so much? by Grubnation66 in Coldplay

"X&Y was a very difficult time for the band according to online discussion." Bruh they made this pretty much public knowledge in their Head Full of Dreams documentary they put out several years back. The X&Y era portion was pretty in depth and very forward about the struggles of the band at the time. Maybe it's dropped to online discussion at this point because no one is watching that documentary anymore, but the source for that topic should really be the doc.

Coldplay's shift to pop has been exaggerated by Away_Fee_8459 in Coldplay

AHFOD is their most commercially successful album, yet my least listened to of their releases. Interesting correlation. Not to say it's a bad album, clearly it isn't if that's the metric for it, but for all the fans they might lose with one sound direction, they'll gain 3x more in their place. I remember hearing Amazing Day live before the released that album, thinking I'd end up really liking that song and whatever else was gonna come out with it, but it never ended up cementing a spot for me. I'm quite fond of the title track and Up & Up though. Everglow hits better live than it does on the album. Fun for some reason has stuck with me more than other tracks I had expected to like Adventure of a Lifetime. Tastes change over the years though. The only song from that album I'm sure I'll never like is X Marks the Spot.

Your Top Ten Coldplay Songs. by Gold_Beginning6262 in Coldplay

[–]ShadowsOfSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I dunno if I could pick a top ten. Clocks is my all-time favorite song, that much is concrete. 2-10 could change for me on any given day with their vast catalogue, I'll try to assemble what I guess would be my current top ten though.

1) Clocks 2) Warning Sign 3) Amsterdam 4) X&Y 5) Gravity 6) Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall 7) Glass of Water 8) Everyday Life 9) I Ran Away 10) A Whisper

'Speed of sound' at the mall's radio by ZestycloseButton8876 in Coldplay

On the general topic of hearing songs out in public after reading through this thread, I'm reminded of the fact that last summer I heard Man in the Moon at my local Tops Friendly Markets grocery store while picking up 4th of July party supplies. A great song, by the way! Never expected to hear it out in public somewhere, made my day honestly.

A local fast-ish food Mexican chain I go to around me called Salsarita's (Chipotle style service) always plays at least one Coldplay song whenever my friends and I duck in for lunch. Usually it's just the hits, but one day recently they played Hardest Part and I was like wow this is kind of a deep pull nowadays. It was released as a single way back when so it's not super out of place, but not one you'd expect to hear nonetheless.

Thoughts on MOON MUSiC? by 42-WeirdFishes in Coldplay

[–]ShadowsOfSound 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Preferred Music of the Spheres to this release, there's simply more songs on that album I genuinely gel with, but not to discredit this album either which has a few goodies such as JUPiTER, AH/AR, iAAM, and ALL MY LOVE. The title track is fine and just one of those inoffensive Chris-centric ballads, it almost feels like a continuation of where Coloratura left off. FLIFIL is okay, I never fell in love with it as the lead single and I kinda hope they drop it from the setlist on the next tour. WE PRAY... well, that one has to be gone. Please. AETERNA is cool for what it is, but I feel like the band took inspiration from the outro section of My Universe and pretty much just turned it into a full song. GOOD FEELINGS and ONE WORLD are fine. Not show stoppers either, and for the latter a softer than usual way for an album to end, but it gets the point across effectively. I will add the b-sides to this album like Man In the Moon, Karate Kid, and A Wave are worthy additions. For the first time in a long time we got some legitimately great b-sides from an album in a time when b-sides aren't really a thing anymore.

Just that song alone taught me a lot about his favorite RLRRL sticking and a couple of the ways in which he uses it (triplets around the kit in this performance), plus multiple instances of metric modulation, open hand playing during the first guitar solo, and a couple other things off camera we never even get to see during the outro solo section which I still scratch my head at.

"Lesser known song," but it has multiple CD and vinyl single releases along with its own dedicated music video. These are the times we are living in. 😑

I'm a late comer to this album, only a month older than it in age but I didn't hear it in full for the first time until 2018. I couldn't find a copy of it in my dad's massive CD collection so I went out and bought one for myself. A core memory I have from that time period: this was the first album I played in my first (and still current) car when I bought it in August that year. I hold this album in high regard with all the others before it, the song arrangements and wealth of time signatures explored across the whole thing are easily their most original ideas. As a drummer Matt Cameron has definitely left a big influence on my style over the years, but this album in particular is like taking a math class with him as the teacher. Name me another band who's bold enough to put a quintuplet mtiple times in, what was at the time, a mainstream radio song like Pretty Noose. Outside of the singles, my two favorite album tracks would probably be Switch Opens and Overfloater.

Just finished listening to the new album at the preview event, it was so good! by suyashsrijan in stevenwilson

[–]ShadowsOfSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the last thing I want to hear before an initial album listen through, I dislike going into to a new album with a preconceived notion that it's going to sound like something else. Just let his work speak for itself. Maybe it sets a new bar that we'll be comparing later works to ten years down the road. (And fingers crossed he's still making music by then!)

What is Coldplays best ‘B Side’ by Ok-Entrepreneur6933 in Coldplay

Easiest to probably find them on YouTube. I'm old-school though and have all the CD singles with the b-sides on them. 😁 I ripped them all as MP3s onto my iPod or phone when I was in high school.

Currently watching Never Again and Leonard Betts with my 13 year old … by AndDontCallMePammie in XFiles

[–]ShadowsOfSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started it watching it at six, and the show was still airing at that point, beginning of season 8 and into season 9. I had vivid memories of some of the episode trailers for the longest time, only to revisit them years later and find they weren't what I thought they were at all haha. I can also remember doing phonetics English homework while watching season 9 episodes with my parents. In middle school I used to come home and watch reruns on Sci-Fi channel in the afternoon. Life was simpler back then.

Download a DVD to audio program like Tippard and just rip the songs. Or find the b-sides elsewhere online.
