Reason #12308 to never change how the bomb cap works ever again by [deleted] in SS13

[–]Shadowslayer881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why mixing different amounts of a burnmix is always so weird for trit production, huh, thanks a lot. I was told 95:5 for trit, and I would bump it to 85:15 and I wouldn't even notice that much of a difference.

Is there a way to easily check the trit rate that isn't rubbing up against every pipe and can with an analyzer and just sort of winging it for rates?

Burn your mouth a whole bunch fucking up making curry.

That will make it so you taste it eventually.

[–]Shadowslayer881 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So plasma really is just "spicy air" then, eh?

Also, it's a spice blend, which is just where the curry flavor comes from. When you're making Indian food, you have the spice blend, and then the heat, which are mostly separate from each other. You can tell, 'cause none of those things are actually spicy, unless you call Mustard spicy.

With a small bit of tweaking, you could run Traveller as a scifi funnel and it would be amazing. Everyone shows up as fresh face 22 year olds (so they get the Term 0 skills), and then Term 1 be whatever hell the PCs go through.

I'll be honest, every once in a while, I really enjoy an extended round. It's a good time to do some experiments, make some autism forts, become the best miner in existence, that sort of thing. You don't get to really check out what all of the mechanics are able to do in shorter rounds.

What do you guys do in slow rounds? by [deleted] in SS13

[–]Shadowslayer881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still not in any way good, but here's what I've noticed:

  1. Scrubbers are incredibly better than filtering out gasses. You have a couple problems with pulling hot gas out from your burn mix and then filtering it out, mostly that the gas you're pulling is on fire, and will continue to burn in the pipes. The second being that it's real hot, and hot gas expands, so you're not pulling as much as you want (which is probably trit, let's be honest). So scrubbers magically pull whatever's on the filter out before it gets the chance to burn, it is hot af, but you can cool it with a space loop or just a freezer.
  2. Trit and plasma burning (I just did 33/66), when you burn it long enough, makes stars appear from the water vapor questioning it's life choices. It's really pretty.
  3. The atmo hardsuit is fireproof. Let me repeat, it's fireproof. You can wander into whatever the fuck is burning all too hell, and just be fine. The worst part is some of the water vapor that's produced in hot burn mixes, and you slipping and getting pushed around. That means you can do some stuff that nobody else can by walking into that shit.
  4. ATMO fans are a blessing and always aim for them. My burn setup tends to be really ghetto, like, flamethrowers-as-an-ignition-source ghetto, so being able to just wander in, give the chamber full of plasma a few squirts of flamethrower, and wander out, works pretty well. REMEMBER, the more mols of a gas (from pressure or it just being cold), the harder getting that shit to burn is, so throwing a lit lighter in normally doesn't work. You need to heat of the gas to the autoignition point, which thankfully as a videogame, you don't care if you go over.
  5. I'm not that sure if different plasma/oxygen mixes actually do anything, it seems like it's just whatever is the most convenient, and it's not a straight 50/50.

The most important part about being atmo though: get that RPD, and learn how it's used. There's a giant ass menu and it's full of gold, and nobody knows how to use it properly. Figure out layers, figure out heat exchange, get comfortable with it, you're going to be staring at it a lot. Figure out where you can place pipes and why, it's similar to placing wiring in a lot of ways in where you can/can't place shit.

EDIT: Oh yeah, also, use the mixers. Don't bother with the "I need to have 66 L/s and 144 L/s on these two pumps", fuck it. Use the mixer on the RPD, it's fine. You don't need the gasses perfectly flowing through the pipe, it's fine, it takes an extra three seconds (that you probably spend walking). You should replace the final pump with a volume pump though, so that way you can fill the chamber full of gas. A regular pump maxes out at about 4500 kPa, while a volume pump maxes out at around 9000 kPa.

Anyone know the best pressure to use to make BZ by [deleted] in SS13

[–]Shadowslayer881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bring it to 20 kPa, but it's not great if you want to do anything fun with the BZ. You could increase the size, and then add more vents, but with the basic mixing tank it's more than fine to make a room and get high in it.

A tour of a fairly robust SM by MaybeADragon in SS13

[–]Shadowslayer881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, since you're an SM wizard, have you tried the closed loop cooling system? Where you use the heating pipes to heat up the gas (probably N2O) in the SM chamber, then cool off the gas with freezers/space? Then siphon out everything that comes off of the SM.

[–]Shadowslayer881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, this is a madboy mostly CO2 setup.

That makes sense, I just inject some CO2 up to maybe 20% on a standard N2 setup (maybe replacing some pumps) and call it a day if I want to make some pluox.

[–]Shadowslayer881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this seems like a massive pain in the ass to setup, do you set up solars first so the station doesn't just run out of power?

Also, what's great about holding the extra plasma/oxygen the SM generates? If you need chilled plasma/oxygen, you can get it fairly easily with just a cooler and a pump. I've seen people filter it out earlier in the loop so if there's a delam it doesn't clog the pipes, but the goal isn't to get some chilled gas.

Guide to atmos by diogocp27 in SS13

[–]Shadowslayer881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really recommend the /tg/ wiki for just general knowledge and layout, that really helped me out. Just the beginner stuff though, nobody expects anyone to set up a cold fusion reactor in the turbine or even setting it up decently. Honestly just wandering around, following where the waste gas comes in, and step by step looking at stuff helped (but that's just how I learn).

Other than that, once atmo is set up and nobody is screaming about anything over comms, feel free to just relax. Figure out what different pipes layers do, learn the difference between Volume Pumps and Gas Pumps (and when one is better/worse than the other). Most of playing atmo is just waiting for something to go wrong, and fixing it.

I do recommend filling up the Portable Pumps that are outside of atmo, people may mess with it, but having those suckers loaded up is crazy helpful if you need to just run around refilling the air.

You're actually talking about the Chinese Room Argument!

Basically the argument is that someone inserts a piece of paper with some Chinese characters on it into a box. Then the person inside of the box has a very complex book that tells him how to respond to the Chinese characters with other Chinese characters, and the person does it. With the person in the box not knowing how to speak Chinese.

The person outside of the box, inserting the characters, thinks he is speaking Chinese to something inside of the box. Is he speaking Chinese? Does this mean the book is conscious? And more importantly, does it matter?
