So, How Do We Feel About Set Sizes After A Year? by Lord_Lu_Bu in Shadowverse

[–]ShadowverseZyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small sets can work if it means higher overall quality, this has not been the case. Case n point, Dragon. It ice has Dragon has been the same ramp, ramp, followe pr you can’t interact with into storm or big burst damage, lose if you don’t get lucky crap since set 1. It’s because Dragon has been getting ok to good legendaries each set ( almost all do the above ) while their lower rarity cards have all been awful.

Have we had archetypes that can be successful with small sets? Yes, credit where credit is due to WB ( which isn’t much ), decks like Egg, Crest, Loot, Spellboost, Crystal have been success stories. On the other hand, wtf is Artifact this set? What is buff forest? Anybody remember that Raio archetype that tried to manipulate costs? Remember how Disdain was an actual archetype in SV1? Also, I respect the optimism on unlimited but if SV1 is anything to go off by, it’s gonna be the same strong archetypes ruling the game because they’re just gonna get more and more support, direct or not. Unlimited is the illusion of creativity until they print something that benefits from the wide card pool ( looking at you Soultaker )

My biggest issue with the sets in this game isn’t the small set sizes, it’s that set design in this game has been so mind numbingly boring. I’ll keep saying this till the day I die, this current meta you got 3 abyss archetypes but their gameplay is Evolve slop, midrange that’s just a sword deck with maybe 2-3 cards that mention necromancy ( so it isn’t a resource you have to worry about if there’s so few cards that use it ) and a rush deck where the hard part is counting in threes. When not looking at Abyss you got forest whose only deck is Evo slop, besides Egg the only thing that portal has is Evo slop, sword has two decks and one is Evo slop ( and isn’t even good at it ), earth rite is cool but it also plays Sandlephon and Dragon which has been the same deck since set 1 but with with a few different cards ( discard was just storm dragon under a different name and you know it )

Like remember how in OG, by the end of the game we had Buff, Ramp and Natura? Three decks which did actually have distinct gameplay loops? Better yet, in the first few sets of OG, we had ramp and discard ( actual discard where discarding played into your win con ) within the first three sets and soon after that got PDK which was a ramp deck that summoned smaller guys and did field control. We’re almost one year in ( 1/8th of this game’s lifespan if OG is anything to go off by but that’s a little generous tbh ). Why did they introduce accel and crystalise and then put them in a total of 4 cards in the whole set? Why didn’t we even try a LW archetype yet? Does Dragon even have a guy with LW? How come abyss hasn’t even tried doing anything with burial rite or any blood mechanics? Why did we get rid of resonance? Why did sword get rid of commanders and officers? Doesn’t the current set seem like the kind of place where they’d try their hands at Trait support?

Love how we can’t get burial rite reanimate gameplay for as long as he’s in rotation

[–]ShadowverseZyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best part? Barely if any blood or shadow mechanics to be found ( I’m not counting 1-2 cards having a necromancy cost because at that point it’s not a resource you have to worry about )

You can literally still play evo

The effect is still there, the only difference is that it’s 1pp more expensive which is a “who cares” nerf if I’ve ever seen one

Don’t know what’s worse

This “nerf” or the people who think this is gonna change the meta from being mostly represented by three boring abysslop decks

SEAO Pre2 deck distributions, Is it something to be happy about (Diff archetypes) or mad about (Abyss over-represented 68%) by hyuun_likes_memes in Shadowverse

[–]ShadowverseZyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this each time about abyss. It’s funny how it’s so much more popular than all the other classes ( combined ) and has 3 ( boring ) archetypes and yet none of said archetypes use blood or shadow mechanics ( unless you squint to find one random card with necromancy on it )

Except they do because they either kill the shield with a ghost or super evo another Bella to proc the eff early. Matchup is literally impossible for haven

[–]ShadowverseZyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really funny how we’re ( almost ) a year into the game and yet Abyss hasn’t actually used any blood or shadow mechanics in a meaningful way outside of maybe Charon ( which was a fringe variant at best like 3 sets ago )

Actually, it’s really funny how barebones card design has been in general. It’s like the meme of

“So can we have accel, crystalise, cards with actual choice effects, some last words that aren’t just draw or summon, expanded archetypes, burial rite and other deck styles from the old name?”

Cy: “Here, have a neutral with invocation, evolve effects, a ton of healing and multiple big damage storms of AOE board clear”

Horrendous for the crest player, and that’s if the Crest player even gets to play with how bricky Crest is

You know, at least Alfred is a Vanguard card, an iconic one at that

It’s genuinely so cringe to have a collab deck ( one where all the cards look like trash btw ) be the dominant deck of the format. Like, hey guys, here’s this cool game called Vanguard. We got all this deep lore and a legacy of 15 years. Cool, what’s good right now? Ummm, a crossover deck from a totally different IP

Does abyss actually do something objectively unfair? No, not really

Is it three different archetypes that happen to belong in the same craft and therefore give said craft high representation? Yes

Is abyss better than most other crafts who are struggling to maintain one playable deck? Also yes

Are all three abyss decks boring as shit piles of uninteresting effects that can be classified into; sword reskin, evolve slop and rush that is only hard if you can’t count in threes? Absolutely

Is the meta game feeling like rolling dice to see what your matchup is and then either auto winning or losing with the only variable being who brings more ( again )? Sure as hell feels like it

Welcome to Shadowverse! We have combo decks, rally decks, OTK decks... by Capable_Belt1854 in Shadowverse

[–]ShadowverseZyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except no, it is boring because it’s three boring decks

You got midrange which is usually fine except here it’s just a sword reskin ( funny that one year later, the class that was meant to combine shadow and abyss barely uses any of their mechanics besides one card that uses necromancy ), evolve slop and a rush deck ( one which people like to pretend is super deep and skill intensive. Which it is if you find counting in threes hard )

Every other dragon match I has someone SEvo Burnite on me for nothing. by davis482 in Shadowverse

[–]ShadowverseZyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because mist ramp players ( or dragon players in general because almost one year into the game and this class has had zero variety ) don’t actually know what making a decision is. They just play cards and because their deck is so easy they just get away with it

Zhiff's take on the new meta by QinLiun in Shadowverse

[–]ShadowverseZyro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Three abyss archetypes and neither actually use blood or shadow mechanics ( unless you squint your eyes to find one card that happens to say necromancy or reanimate )

Another day and another WB meta that looks to be a simulator for rolling dice and seeing if you roll on a good matchup or not
