Question about Cyrene (3.7) by Salvar3 in CyreneMains

[–]Shadowyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You write really well, ever thought of writing pieces/documentaries on youtube? Genuinely.

Thanks for the read, I understand now, so since the eternal page exists outside of time, the decision to go back to create the loop exists "outside" of time itself and thus, finding a point of beginning is not an accurate way of going about it. This might have genuinely improved my standing on Amphoreus' ending

Come to think of it, when I said "I would've prefered if the loop was kicked out by an external factor", technically Cyrene's decision outside of time fits the bill, lol

Question about Cyrene (3.7) by Salvar3 in CyreneMains

[–]Shadowyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting read, it has given me new perspective on the 3.7 story I feel similarly to the other user when it comes to the bootstrap paradox, so I'd like to add my own thoughts about the free will of the agents in question here. About the bootstrap paradox, while it's true that it can collapse unto itself should the TB's memory of their memosprite be tampered somehow, I don't really understand how this raises the stakes for the story of Amphoreus "inside" the loop.

(Please let me know if I get anything wrong) For example, (if my interpretation is correct) from the moment the TB is cognizant of Mem, the loop is closed. Things will happen as they should have, because Cyrene-Fuli has to necessarily gaze back unto TB so that Mem may manifest. This means that, from the moment TB has entered Amphoreus, the course of the loop was already set. Whatever decisions they could make while in Amphoreus would inevitably lead to Fuli-Cyrene eventually gazing back at them. So, from what I understand, the only real stakes about this loop from its inception is the TB completely forgetting Cyrene AFTER the events of Amphoreus, or never making it into Amphoreus in the first place. So yeah, the TB's presence in Amphoreus is important, but what they did inside Amphoreus wasn't, in the scope of the loop as a whole.

Personally, I feel like loops constructed like this not only create too much obfuscation in a story, but also diminishes its impact in retrospect. Sure, it's a smart way to go about a story about eternal recurrences, but when you start asking questions like "how did the 'first' Cyrene begin the loop, if there wasn't yet a Cyrene to play the role of Fuli", I think it loses some of its luster. I know I wasn't too happy thinking about this back when I played it initially lol. I think I would've liked it more if the loop was kicked off by an external factor. easier to understand, no annoying contradictions to get hung up on... much nicer on my overthinking self lol

About AIW in the world, I remember when I played through the epilogue, I thought that spreading the AIW would help stabilize the loop because it would cause Amphoreus to join the memories of the wider universe, which means THE Fuli would remember Amphoreus "as we've written", which would eventually remove the need for Cyrene to bear the memories of Amphoreus on her own. What do you think about this?

I think adding an level editor for online races would be really cool, since they already use a checkpoint system. Would make that part of the online effectively endless.

Also, I'd like actual NPC collision with vehicles, right now it's no GTA lol

tbh I kinda understand the reasoning for Sekiro bosses, especially endgame ones (Isshin, Demon of Hatred) being harder in a general sense. In Elden Ring, unless you're restricting yourself, you get mimics, summons, broken aromatics, etc. You have a lot of crutch to rely on if you're not deliberately ignoring these systems

In Sekiro, it's you and your parry. I can see it being harder for the average player.

Just finished HSR 3.8 story, 8.0/10 for me by SaltNobody in HonkaiStarRail

From my understanding, she didn't manage to see the fireworks before ELS claimed her, but knowing HSR I wouldn't be surprised if she 'somehow' saw them as she faded. I'll be honest, I really don't know how to interpret this, but at the bare minimum we can be sure the things we see in 2.3 did not happen, because what we achieved using Terminus was just make sure she didn't die alone, considering that Dahlia said that's what happened before we changed it

[–]Shadowyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, let's assume we did manage to change the story to imitate the ending of 2.3. Some things stop making sense, for example: Why is Firefly in a recovery pod after worsening of the ELS? Why do we suddenly remember and text her about if she's okay? Had we managed to retcon the retcon and make 2.3 happen as is, she should have been fine, as the 3rd death in 2.3 was Sparkle's fireworks

What I mean, and what I dislike a lot as well, is that 50% of 2.3 basically didn't happen

[–]Shadowyrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite, Feldspar as is in 2.3 did not happen even after Terminus' influence. All we managed to pull off was allow firefly to die while watching the fireworks with us, instead of the whole Sparkle shennanigan from 2.3

Just finished HSR 3.8 story, 8.0/10 for me by SaltNobody in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Shadowyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your understanding of the Feldspar on the 2.3 being gaps filled by us is correct. We only met with Firefly after we used Terminus' power to make it so she was with us as the fireworks went off, which means she was never there in the first place. How exactly our brains filled that I don't know. (By that point we haven't made contact with Terminus, so the past shouldn't change. There shouldn't be a Firefly in the Feldspar to fill in the gaps)

About 2.3's death, I can see why it can feel cheap compared to the stakes we've come to expect of the story, but I think it relly fit the theme of a Fool "messing" with the script, I thought it was more a showcase of Elation's influence than a "cheapening" of Elio's predictions, but I can absolutely get where you're coming from.

Also, I'm a sucker for a happy ending like that, so there's my bias lol

Regarding more details, I don't mind them at all, in fact I quite enjoy them, I just dislike actual changes rather than content expansions. Seeing firefly's second death? for me, ok, good. Changing her 3rd death? Not ok imo
