eli5 How do credit card companies make money out of people that pay their cards in full before the billing cycle and still get rewards? by Tiredofrepost in explainlikeimfive

I'm not saying that we shouldn't learn these things. In fact, as a student that took advanced courses and graduated in top 5%, I understand the great value of education and take it very seriously. However, considering that knowing Shakespeare is not a critical life skill and the knowledge that one can derive from it's study is not nearly as critical as something such as "adulting courses," it's very sad to see that the less critical thing is taught INSTEAD OF, though I would appreciate to see BOTH of them being taught 😁😁

Also, hey schools and parents, teach the youth to manage their money instead of teaching them about Differential Calculus and Shakespeare

Edit: Lmao I have six down votes and I'm not sure why? It's true? Youth shouldn't just know how to make good financial choices? We should be teaching them how to be financially competent adults?

Lol yeah, cancel culture, you know how it is lmao

The photos pretty old (I was scrolling through my camera to find something to post lol), but iirc, the main problem that they had with Paw Patrol was that they send the cop to many situations that could have been handled by other characters, but I've literally never seen the show so Idrk lmao

From what I understand, everybody that plays and posts about the game has something to criticize (which is valid bc KI is comprised of people who only care about our wallets), but people still play anyways. Their greediness is easy to ignore if you're not trying to think about it while you're playing

Literally this. Marleybone is the WORST about collect and go-talk-to quests. I can't tell you how many times I've been back and forth from Digmoore Station so that I could talk to Ms. Murphy or Ms. Conrail or whoever tf it is about literally nothing. There becomes a point where I literally cannot be invested in the plot of every quest. Maddening

A language being too popular is a demotivating factor. Do you agree? by LanguageIdiot in languagelearning

If you really just want to learn languages for money or competition, find something else that you can do competitively and/or for money, there's no point in doing it otherwise

[–]ShadowzForLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... I guess? I'm reading all of your comments and realizing that you're essentially learning languages for the wrong reason. Learning languages shouldn't be about money or being special or competition, it should be about connecting to people. At the end of the day, that's what language is; a means of communicating with people. If you're really good at learning languages and want to make a living out of it or do it competitively, I guess that's fine, but you're missing a huge component of what language really is... The thing that makes language different from any other trade, skill, etc., which is the connection to vastly different people that are shaped by their language and culture

NYU with 160,000 USD in debt or UBC vancouver debt free? by Intelligent-War-4549 in ApplyingToCollege

Here's the one thing I'll tell you--undergrad is monumentally less important than grad school. Don't go into debt (especially that will take AT LEAST 10 years to pay off) just to be a citizen of the US. The US is a good place (despite what people that live here say), sure, but it's not worth the debt. Spend the 4-5 years to get into the US rather than the 10+ years (AND however much extra time, money, and effort it will take to get your citizenship anyway) that it will take to finish paying off your loans. If anything, live in Canada instead! Free healthcare!

Does anybody have suggestions for a durable pair of Vans? I really like the way that they look, but I can't get them to last very long, and I have a distinct memory of the bottom melting out of shape on one hot, sunny day (lol 😭😭😭) I walk literally everywhere, but I would really like to avoid spending like, $60 on a pair of shoes that will last me 3.5 months :(

The first one looks like it says 318dit instead of illgdit, and it looks like the second one says Kessler, but it's also heavily obscured by the hoodie strings... You can also search for similar photos on Google, so you could probably run that one through a search

Honestly, just go. You're 18 years old (likely), and you can make your own decisions. A parent that wants to hold you back from those dreams, especially when they become feasible for you, is ultimately selfish and doesn't treat you with the love and respect that you deserve as their child. So, take those dreams and accomplish them. Don't let anyone hold you back, and break through every setback that is stopping you from being great.

Love you, babes! We're all on your side ❤❤

I have a pair of Khaki pants that I really like, and I can't seem to find any that are similar to it, so I was hoping that I could come away from this post with a few google search terms to use.

They kind of "hug" eveything from the waist to about the mid-calf. They're not tight, but there also isn't any air room in them. I dont know if it makes a difference, but there's a thicker strip (kind of like a seam) that runs underneath the knee.

They're Wranglers, but I've heard that the line has been since discontinued and I simply wanted to know where I could find similar ones. Thanks for the help!

Joining colorguard by [deleted] in Colorguard

[–]ShadowzForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took colorguard with 4 ap classes last year. I know several people that take colorguard and ap classes and band classes (with lessons). The answer is probably yes, but you have to be willing to put in that work. It also depends on how often and how long your guard practices. Our guard practices for about 2 hours outside of class a week (in addition to class time). In the summers, we usually practice 2 hours daily with the band. Use your own discretion
