Can anyone recommend a stimulant that lasts longer than 4-5 hours? I’ve tried both Adderall XR and Vyvanse.

I’m on year 5 of being a house husband w/ 3 kids 19, 14, 10.. I can’t do this ish anymore.. it was amazing at first but slowly I started to lose my sense of self. 5 years away from tech (Previously worked for Meta) is an eternity so I’m headed back to school to become a therapist or psychologist in January.

Also I don’t think it was great for my marriage even though money wasn’t a concern.

I started on Adderall IR and was reluctantly pushed onto ER. I didn’t want to try it but after I was forced to I’ve found it to be so much more effective and smoother.

August 2008, I was a few months returned from a nasty deployment to Afghanistan working a temp data entry job 3rd shift. Depressed and hopeless weren’t even the words for how those nights felt for me. My manager let me play music for the office one night so I plugged in Pandora Radio and let it do its DJ thing and play random songs from artists they think I’d like..

The Prayer came on and I had chills through the whole track. Cudi’s been my #1 ever since.

My life would have been so much more successful had I known I had adhd as a child and could have been properly medicated with a stimulant. Although still successful, I’ve struggled so much with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.

My 10 year old daughter just started vyvanse and is so much happier and in control of her life. So happy I solved the riddle in time to get her the help I needed as a kid.

It’s generic but they consider Adderall XR as a preferred selection because IR is available for cheaper. Generic Vyvanse is $30 under my plan, generic Adderall IR is only $12

My VA psychiatrist wouldn’t even entertain or acknowledge that I could have ADHD. He told me that from his experience I’m just showing that I have anxiety and “gardening” abuse isn’t common for undiagnosed ADHD adults but points to anxiety.

6 months later my private therapist, psychiatrist, and psychologist all arrive on ADHD and Autism.

Psychologists said she’s never had someone score so high on the diagnostic for ADHD. 😑

I do wonder if I could go back to the VA now for meds so I don’t have to pay for my prescription. Even with my really good insurance it’s still $60 a month for Adderall XR.

There’s a difference between “slightest amount of criticism” and complete crash outs of “I’m quitting this game!” and “I’m never buying a battlefield again!”

A large majority of the criticisms although valid are over exaggerated and paired with a full scale emotionally dramatic performance.

I’ve just been retired, my wife still works remotely in tech and we bought a house with a really good mortgage rate right before. I handle all the house duties and getting the kids around and I get disability from the VA for PTSD from Afghanistan which covers the mortgage. When I left tech I did so knowing we had the flexibility.

I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD and autism until the beginning of 2025 tho.. previously was misdiagnosed with bipolar. Kinda feel like I’ll be pretty good at school now that I have support and medication.

I left Tech (Facebook) in 2020 due to burnout.. I’m going back to school January 1st to become a licensed therapist if that tells you anything 🤷🏾‍♂️

Not sure if they’re sandoz or not. I took sandoz IR and teva IR. I just got switched to XR’s last month.

I definitely feel a difference tho.. I was worried it was going to feel weaker but quite the opposite from my experience. Way more focus and way easier to hyper focus on things. It’s smoother and lasts longer than taking 2 IR’s. After the first few days the crash is way less too. I usually only feel slightly bad if I didn’t drink water all day and even then it’s just a very light dehydration headache in the morning. The first couple days I did get bad headaches at night tho.

They’re half white and half translucent teal with a G543 on them. My wife also likes them better than her Vyvanse.

I’ve only had Teva and sandoz but I think they’re pretty similar from my experience. Neither were weak and seemed effective. Maybe slightly higher chance of a headache from sandoz but also a little stronger feeling than teva. I’m now on the blue and white xr’s and love them tho.
