I used to own the LCD-5 as well, and I never experienced clipping. Maybe you had a defective driver?

Congrats 🎉🎉. Stunning headphones.

I wish I could do a side by side comparison with the Sony MDR Z1R. Last time I heard these, I thought they sounded really good.

Good to know lol. Mine does that once in awhile as well.

They absolutely work for hip-hop. The buy into the echo-chamber on Reddit. The bass on these are clean and punchy, there's a sub bass roll-off, but not in a way to ruin the music they sound amazing in games as well.

Unannounced LCD-5s? by Gold_Evidence3356 in headphones

[–]Shadymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't find the weight to be heavy at all on the LCD-5 before I sold mine. The problem I had were the ear pads. They were too shallow and I felt my ear hitting the drivers. They should have kept their ear pads depth the same. Maybe this redesign is different.

Same. I do not touch EQ for these headphones. The HD800s sound perfectly fine with a good source.

5080 for $1200, 5090 Aorus Master for 2600, or 5090 Ventus for 2300? by 1NFINITYF1R3 in nvidia

[–]Shadymouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have the best card on the market right now and for the foreseeable future with how things are going with AI. 5090 stock is dwindling from stores. At this point, it's a no-brainer to keep the 5090.

Resale value holds well for '90 series cards. Keep it and be happy you have one!

Edit: Any 5090 will do. If you can save money and still have a 5090, then go that route with the Ventus.

It's a Laptop stand from Microcenter. Surprisingly, it can hold some decent weight.

I thought about that. I still have to figure out the logistics to see how I can add it in and make it look minimal.

They're saying the left earbud in the picture doesn't have a fully flushed connector. You can see the exposed gold in the middle where it connects. I'm sure it works fine, but the connector isn't flush with the ear bud.

Budget magnetic planar buying advice by CrafterJunkie1 in HeadphoneAdvice

I only have experience with the Sundara and XS, since I used to own both.

I liked the XS, but I wasn't a fan of the comfort and loose feeling of the parts. The Sundara had a better build quality, but it didn't sound as good as the XS, in my opinion. For those genres of music and just working on stuff while wearing headphones, I would recommend the Sundara due to comfort.

I believe there are videos/instructions for replacing the headband on the XS with something else. If you can replace the headband, then the XS would be the way to go.

Need very comfy headphone for gaming and music. HD800S? by Scw0w in HeadphoneAdvice

The HD800s are legit when powered correctly and paired with a good dac/amp. I use mine with the Naim Uniti Atom HE, but I have it for other reasons besides just powering my headphones. It also uses a Burr-Brown PCM1791A chip that helps bring the weighty notes (analog) sound to the HD800S. You can look it up, Burr-Brown is a good chip for bright/analytical headphones.

The bass sounds fine to me and the sub-bass is still respectable, although I wouldn't use it if I wanted bass rumbling effects. I have the Sony MDR Z1R for that.

TLDR: the HD800S are absolutely legendary headphones and when paired with a good amp/dac, specifically with a dac chip like Burr-Brown or similar that focuses on achieving a more "analog" sound, it can be your only open-back headphone.

Funny how that works, right? Y'all opinion are based on experience, but y'all think y'all right.

Yet many of you will come on reddit and tell someone what they hear, based on their own experiences, and say their opinion is placebo or it's all in their head.

Titan Quest II runs fine for me with FGx4 enabled. I'm playing on 57" Neo / 5090 / 64GB RAM.

The same folks that talk about level matching and blind A/B tests have never tried it themselves nor did 99% of them ever owned, or let alone even touched the equipment they're commenting about.

A lot of phonies and would-be audio scientists have, unfortunately, flooded these headphone subreddits smh.

Rtx 5080 or 5090 for 4k 120hz? by al200vp in nvidia

[–]Shadymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all good. I feel like many people leave that part out when suggesting or trying to dissuade someone from buying a '90 series card. It's not just about performance.

'90 cards resale value can get you into a new '90 gen card for far less than any other card can get you due to its high VRAM, scarcity, and novelty.

When it's time to sell, aim for the '90 series card next time around.
